Crime Still Down

  • Four people were killed and 22 others were wounded in acts of violence across the city this past weekend.

At least nine people were wounded in shootings Friday afternoon and evening alone.

You know it's going to be bad when you get one of these:
  • It was supposed to be a surprise birthday party — complete with friends, family, music and a hired stripper.

But 23-year-old fork lift truck driver Harry Rodriguez’s special day ended instead in blood and gunfire when a masked gunman burst into the party and fatally shot him in the early hours of Sunday.

Shouting “Cobra lovers!” as he opened fire in an apparent reference to the Spanish Cobras street gang, the gunman fired three shots from a rear porch at Rodriguez’s home on the 2000 block of North Leclaire shortly before 2 a.m., relatives said.

Word is there might be suspected gang activity involved.

Well it's going to go like this.

There is now a trend beginning where crime is on the upswing nationwide due to the economy and the austerity programs kicking in forcing people into survival mode.

Once the violent crime numbers begin to show an indisputable increase in the media, and due to related pressure from the corporate world that is scared to death about what is going on in the OWS protest, we will see the blame for the uptick in violent crime being blamed on the OWS protestors.

In other words:

"The corporations/politicians will not let a good crisis go to waste" -- they will use it

The lines will be blurred blaming the shooting and the killings on the fact that the city has chosen to assign a massive presence on peaceful protestors instead of where the real crime is happening.

(I ask you who's fault that will; be when and if it happens?)

Nevertheless, this way the OWS can be demonized even though they are not the criminals and hopefully with the help of the corporate funded media this will sway public opinion against the OWS movement and stop it in it's tracks.

City hall can then play innocent victim -- it's all these violent protestors...even though they are not violent at all.

For example I give you this piece out of NYC...

Bullets are flying over Broadway -- and everywhere else in the city.

The number of people shot surged 154 percent two weeks ago -- to 56 from 22 over the same week last year -- and spiked 28 percent in the last month.

Last week tallied another increase in victims -- 22 people had been hit through Friday, including the three victims gunned down outside a Brooklyn school Friday.

Last year, only 17 shooting victims were logged for the entire week.

The recent gunplay has now pushed the number of shooting victims this year slightly above last year’s tragic tally -- to 1,484 from 1,451 -- through Oct. 16.

Four high-ranking cops point the finger at Occupy Wall Street protesters, saying their rallies pull special crime-fighting units away from the hot zones where they’re needed.

Since Occupy Wall Street took over Zuccotti Park on Sept. 17, the NYPD has relied heavily on its borough task forces, the department’s go-to teams for rowdy crowds.

---------------------------

Well tough choice eh. You want to send your guys to the "rowdy crowd" or to where the bullets are flying and people are getting shot? I think the choice should be clear.

See how that works though. Some readers are going to walk away spouting that the increase in NYC shootings are the people at OWS doing the shooting. However no-one at OWS is running around shooting people. It's the NYC PD that makes the determination where and when to assign resources. They are obviously making a bad choice here.

So my intention here is not to knock the police but let me ask this. What are the citizens suppose to do, give up their constitutional rights to free speech and assemble because of mismanagement and under staffing of city security forces?

We are criminalizing these OWS people like MAC is criminalizing that copper shooting a man reaching for a cell phone are we not?

Anyways..watch out for the spin..crime is rising

Sorry, I almost forgot McTool says that you cant say murder anymore..Remove that word from the English language please SCC.

And I didnt see in your post that he said, This is a robbery by the Cobra Lovers before he opened fire...

Blah, blah blah......

Any copper w/ a little time on can tell you that crime and the state of the economy have nothing to do with each other. A bad economy doesn't turn you into a criminal.

Get out of your mom's basement once in a while. Talk to a girl. Get a job.

But what about 'Obama Effect' On Crime??

His approval ratings may be dismal, but some think President Obama may be responsible for the continually declining crime rate.

Slate reports that conventional criminological thinking would predict that crime would go up in the midst of economic hardship. But even as the economy remains sickly, crime continues to drop.

<< Some experts think Obama may be responsible. Essentially, the argument is that Obama's election has created such collective inspiration that it has changed the thinking and the behavior of would-be criminals. >>

(He IS the Messiah!)

(Oh and remember, if we give him credit, we've also got to blame him when things start to deteriorate!)

Surprise parties with strippers bursting out of birthday cakes aren't anywhere NEAR "survival mode."

TV piece the other day showed a $20,000 + quinceanera blast held in a hired hall, with choreographers, elaborate laser light shows and bands, tailored formal gowns and uniforms for all the kids, fresh flowers, and a huge catered spread.

for the OWS Chicago is it not just really a choice between two things.

We can

A) lock 100's or 1,000's of them up and spend $140/day per head to keep them locked up.

OR

B) we can have a compromise and let them set up tents in Grant park and put a camera on them if everyone is so scared that they are going to do something.

So who wants to pass the hat and burn pension money, city money, taxpayer money to keep these very, very, dangerous people in the joint.

No doubt that we may eventually see some opportunist provocateurs in the crowds but we can't paint them all as criminals. If we do the terrorist have won.

It's getting so tiresome to see our rights and freedoms being taken away more each and every day under the guise of "we are making it safer. A general curfew and martial law soon eh?

Not so much black market as just plain old "credit." Everyone I know who's having a hard time gets inundated with credit card offers -- like the mortgages, easy to slip into but impossible to get out of when the rates jump to 36% or more.

We no longer manufacture goods -- we manufacture debt, then buy and sell it as though it were a tangible commodity like barrels of oil or bushels of wheat. "The monetization of debt."

The Obama plan "to help underwater homeowners" only covers the 20% of people whose mortgages are held by an identifiable bank.

80% -- EIGHTY PERCENT -- of mortgages were sold off by the banks and are "held by groups of investors." Khadafi could have had your mortgage, for all you know.

Already seeing downturns in attendance at pro sports -- as someone here predicted just a short time ago -- and watch the banquet halls in 025. Guys who financed a custom dualie-rear pickup and had it computer-graphic-sprayed "Rodriguez Granite Countertops" are now in deep s__t since condo construction has ended.

The elaborate formal parties for the birthday of a six-year-old kid are going to go by the wayside when that truck gets repo'd and the house gets foreclosed on.

It's all hanging on credit.

What was the title of that book on the German hyperinflation of the 1920s?

"When Money Died."
