Old Retired Lt says: I wasn't on scene, but if reports are true (case report)Beat 1499 should be ashamed of him/herself. The minute this happened the Fire Captain should have been arrested...PERIOD!! If some boss higher up said let him go...OK, fill out case report and put the name of that boss as ordering you to release this asshole. What has become of this Department...no wonder everyone is leaving. What if a Police Supervisor went up to a fireman on scence and committed Battery on him...what do you think would have happened?? I have to admit the current bosses are wimps..if you can't protect your people, retire and go into social work!!!!

Many years ago I came across a drunk who was throwing bottles at cars. He tried to throw one at our squad and missed. We stopped and did a feel interview and the drunk told us he was a fireman. Sure enough he was. At this time we told him something to the effect that we would take him home before the citizens start insisting that he be arrested, since he was assaulting numerous pedestrians.

His comment to us: "Fuck you! You ain't taken me any where. I ain't drunk and I'll fucking kick your ass if you touch me."

We didn't want to screw over a fireman, but by now we are being approached by about 3 r 4 citizens, who didn't ask that he be arrested, but I could see it coming. So, as we get hold of him to get him out of there, he decides to throw a bottle at us and fight us right there on the street. My nice guy attitude went out the window and we locked the prick up. I hated to do it, but why should I have to take shit from someone who is suppose to be on my side? We went the whole nine yards and my partner and I didn't care what was said by us. We went over and beyond reasonableness with that goof.

I know that majority of fire and police personnel are good people, but it always seems that the "clouted" think they don't have to abide by the same rules as the pee-ons. If Altman was drunk, a battery offender and doing all of this while on duty - Fuck him. Evidently he did not give two shits about a copper just trying to do his job.

Finally, I want to reiterate that this is not about cop vs fire. It is about an out-of-control clout hack who has given both of our departments another black eye.

Sorry for backseat driving or monday morning quarterbacking, but I'm throwing my hat in with the critics here.

Absolute number one rule that has been violated is that nobody, and I mean nobody, is allowed to knowingly put hands on an on-duty police offier unless it is in an act of reasonable restraint. The silence of the CPD, CFD and mayor on this are an absolute abomination, and an invitation for attacks on the uniform and badge.

Typical lame case report. And let's all get real here for a minute. This CFD Captain is just another clouted up drunken Irish Welfare boss but don't sit here and act like CPD is any different. Be honest and admit that any po's that ever worked for anytime in a district can relate similar incidents committed by off duty and on duty CPD personnel who got away with the same or worse bullshit. Don't wanna believe it's true? Ask the guys who were in 015 in the mid 90's when the off duty po from 011 hit a couple of on duty po's at a drug deal shooting scene and then got charged and convicted criminally, suspended, fired and then with the help of his Reverend clout, his "play daddy" boss and the "race" card got his job back from the Police Board.

And let's not forget that the On Duty 015 cops who were Battery victims and doing their jobs that night were eventually handed down 15 day suspensions by the then Supt T.H.

So be truthful here and admit this City and the CFD and CPD are corrupt at the highest levels and if you got the clout you can and will get away with anything including murder.

Stop all the whining and realize this job sucks and has always sucked for the average copper. Remember all that matters is go home every night , live long and collect a pension and when you retire forget you ever worked for this City.

Just to clear the air: The officer that was attacked was in a squatting position, working when that coward fire captain attacked him. The back of the officer's head hit that concrete. While he was trying to get up to gain his balance and before he could get back on his feet, that ass wipe pushed him down again. What a coward you are to do that to someone not on even footing with you! Your so big and bad, you caused problems between cops and firefighters. I hope your guys kick the shit out of you and leave you in an alley somewhere. The days of your heavy duty clout are coming to an end! Let us know how many or your co-workers funerals you have attended and then give me shit about touching a cop. Go fuck yourself not a cop. IPRA & the media would have these coppers fired, and our dept backs IPRA, remember that, They will fire you, hense why no coppers go hands on and hide now

I have seventeen years on. It has been a while since I have seen "hands on", Maybe it is me or where I work, I accept that. I got into some shit on the street this month, and handled it myself without back up. Took a risk. But, as much as I hate to say it, i wondered how the others on my watch would have handled what I had to do. WOuld they deal with it , or get on the radio and give "the play by play " as the offender fled. i hate to say I thought like this. The job and myself has changed. When G8 comes, you will have to fight. Do not confuse OWS with G8. The G8 people are not from around here and they will wreck this city. They will "pillage the village". They are the road team. You will have to fight to protect yourself. They will attempt to disarm you of your radio and weapon. They have tactics and commitment. You will have to meet them on some level. This is not a joke. You will have to be able to "carry a tune."
