Assailant Shot, Killed
- Police responding to a domestic incident on the Southeast Side early Wednesday shot and killed a man who allegedly lunged at them with a knife.
The fatal police-involved shooting happened about 1:40 a.m. in the 9500 block of South Avenue L, according to Scott Ando of the Independent Police Review Authority.
Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance in a third-floor apartment and saw a man armed with a knife as they walked in, according to a statement from police News Affairs. The officers announced that they were police and ordered him to drop the knife. He then lunged at them and the officers fired at him, the statement said.
The man was fatally wounded, the statement said. The officers were not injured, and the knife was recovered at the scene.
Good job officers. Expect lots of calls from Chuck Goudie though - he thinks you're out of control.

Excellent job done by all on scene, from the Sgts to the PPO. As a visiting WC you never know what to expect on this type of scene, but the 4th district did themselves proud.

The homicide rate in this country has dropped by almost 6% this year.
Chicago's homicide rate has increased with the current administration. This, despite being handed a lower, record breaking homicide rate by the last Superintendent earlier this year. By every ones evaluation, the last Superintendent was an abysmal failure.
Despite all the changes, all the Compstat, all the University professors projects to tell the gang members to "knock it off",things are worse than they were last year and trending opposite the National average. What does that tell you about our Mayor and his administration Mr. Taxpayer?

You are an idiot of epic proportion! You must be brand new and young enough to not have been through many scrapes requiring stitches, surgery, recovery, etc. I have been injured in car accidents, lengthy foot chases, and even a flying bottle to the head. While I have never been shot, I know people that have been, and that is how you want to reward people for doing God's work? I would love to know what makes you so special that you believe that you will never be permanently injured or even suffer an injury that will slow you down in your later years on this job. Unless of course, you are a house mouse that couldn't do anything that would cause you to get injured because you took this job to be an insider for life. Policework is inherently dangerous and you can be injured or killed doing said work. You are obviously drinking the kool-aid and need a blanket party to straighten out your attitude. Some of my old-timer buddies and I will gladly show you the way the real world works you douche'bag!

This is a great idea!
Raising the retirement age will enable a pension surplus again -- then the city can borrow more from the pension and use the money for other "much needed things" like contracting of political friends and such.
Should the money fall short again just bump the retirement age up another 10 years to 67 then 77, 87, 97 whatever.
Before you know it the pension is just another illusion like social security.
Look at all that money in that pension plan just sitting there going to waste.
It needs to be given to the political apparatus so they can put it to use.
That's the politico's ENTITLEMENT not the peoples entitlement.

The sad thing is this officer was trying to make extra money because the city isn't paying the police enough money and now we are surly getting no increase in pay. Also a reduction in duty and uniform checks.
Officer being injured while off duty is only going to increase because taxes go up a pay stays the same.
