Look at All the Savings

Has anyone been totaling up how much money is being saved by the lack of snow?
  • No expenditures on salt;
  • No snowplow OT;
  • No tearing up the streets, curbs, light poles, parked vehicles;
  • No extra maintenance/wear-and-tear on equipment;
  • No de-icing and associated costs at either airport;

Maybe they can apply this windfall to the pension shortages. Or send us a rebate.

Savings where? The moronic thieving pricks at City Hall will just piss the savings away in some unknown rat hole. Nobody but the Chicago North Korean Branch of government has any idea of how much money the city takes in each year. We don't know how much the city spends each year. We don't know what the city spends money on. The only thing our Leader Racoon "Kim El Jong" Jr. tells us is that we are broke and we have to fork over more money to piss away in 2012. The only difference between North Korea and Chicago? You have to go through Detroit to get here.

Right!

Just like all of the money that is budgeted for police officers that are no longer here... Where the f*ck is THAT money going every year???

Hmmm? Didn't Tiny Dancer mention the words "FORENSIC AUDIT" during his campaign for mayor in relation to getting a handle on the flow of improper and wasteful city expenditures?

How about it, Mr. Mayor? I sure would like to know why living in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois is more expensive, taxwise, than living ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE USA.

And hey, maybe we'd finally get to see the old stuttering prick pulled out of his CPD, manservant driven, city car in handcuffs by the feds?

Now THAT would be AWESOME!

Man made Global Warming is a crockof shit. Geology proves that the Earth goes through heating and cooling cycles for millions of years. The air now is cleaner (with the exception of India, China and parts of South America) than it has been since the start of The Industrial Revolution.

When I was in High School in the early 70s, the Scientists warned of an upcoming Ice Age, in the mid 90s they came up with this crap.

The idiot who came up with "the hockey stick" was proven to have made up his "facts" and people still take his word as Gospel.

Just think of this, especially those who were stationed there, that the Vikings gave Greenland that name about 1,200 years ago.

Maybe they have decided that ten grand was wasted. Honestly, I have heard a lot of coppers talk about tuition reimbursement over the years. I cannot remember a time when I didn't think: "Why did they piss away my tax money on this idiot?".

Ten grand on your continuing education? What benefit did the City see out of this expenditure? You, doing your homework on City time? You, becoming another criminal lawyer so you can use your police experience to get criminals off? You droning on about how much smarter you are than the bosses because of your 'education'?

There is a waste of money I can see the City getting rid of. Thanks for mentioning it.

I just laugh at people who talk about budgeted money. Like its set in stone. And there is a big pile of money just sitting there for the budgeted item.

FYI-it is an accounting system. Line items in budgets are just projected figures by managers of what they think they will spend,(costs) which was approved by a city council or authorizing body.

Government takes in and spends money daily. They have payroll, bills, income, etc. too, just like everyone else.

Costs can be shifted to other line items in the budget if one "budgeted" item is too high.

And employers usually have authorized positions. Your police department might be authorized to have 9,000 blue shirts. (Sworn Police Officers) And maybe x amount of Sergeants, Lieutenants,etc. That does not mean they have to fill all of the authorized positions. That is the maximum that are authorized for the approved budget. If revenue/expenses does not meet expectations, budgeted items are changed/cut. Authorized positions might not be filled-retirements, resignations, etc...

If they(city/managers) feel like not spending money on budgeted items, they certainly do not have to spend it.

Money not spent on a budgeted item remains in a general funds or other accounts. And your City,Village.business is audited on expenses/revenues yearly. Required practice .....It's confusing but every town and government entity does it this way. Along with businesses.

"Maybe they can apply this windfall to the pension shortages. Or send us a rebate.."

Or serve out a double issue of fresh, high-quality ammunition at each roll call, the way this is going.

"Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance in a third-floor apartment and saw a man armed with a knife as they walked in, according to a statement from police News Affairs. The officers announced that they were police and ordered him to drop the knife. He then lunged at them and the officers fired at him..."

saw on the news today, Dec 2010 the city spent $6,000,000 on snow removal. So far this Dec the city has spent $500,000. That's a nice savings, but the bigger question is how the hell do you spend $500,000 when it snowed 1 day and was less than an inch? More scamming and corruption I'm sure...

Per Fox32, (they finally caught up with your story just now, SCC) 500,000 of $20 million has been spent thus far by City of Chicago but of course, they didn't take it any further intellectually than just regurgitating numbers on air.

Probably salt. It was cold enough for it to be icy in some spots. That gets lumped into snow removal.

Also could be salt contracts. The city isn't buying salt at spot, they have a contract for the season

The news reported %500 thousand already spend on snow removal this December? For one inch? I want to know where that was spent. I want to assume it was snow plow drivers overtime on standby, but were never utilized???
