Prepared for Disaster? Ha!

From Yahoo News, this gem:
  • Disasters come in all shapes and sizes. Tornadoes and tsunamis, hurricanes and hail storms. The list of natural disasters is long, but the list of non-natural disasters is probably longer. Nuclear meltdowns, terrorist attacks and pandemic flus.

Hurricanes have recently hit New York and New England, heat waves have descended on Moscow and massive floods have occurred in Australia. Let’s face it: life is a dicey proposition. In the context of catastrophes, you can run, but you cannot hide. That’s the bad news. The good news is that society has pioneered a powerful survival strategy. It has three parts: planning, more planning and still more planning.

In this department, some U.S. cities are more equipped than others to survive the full spectrum of worst-case scenarios the universe has in store for them.

The least well prepared cities:

  • Pittsburgh; Fresno; Birmingham; Seattle; Albequerque

The best prepared?

  • Washington; Albany; Chicago; Dover; New York
Chicago? Seriously? With a grade of 97.3 out of 100? Who the hell is running this bullshit? The criteria must be set pretty low. We honestly can't remember feeling less prepared for a disaster, especially in light of the upcoming G-8/NATO summits with a mere 8 hours of training to prepare over 75% of the department.

I'm reminded of the food inspections of the sports stadiums that were done when the stadiums were closed and not serving any food. We passed with flying colors as the corporate run media played right along with the politicians game

Plan and prepare for the worst..Sadly because of our naive & inept politicians,Chicago is not prepared for the NATO and G8 conferences..They will have the scapegoats picked out(McCarthy)to take the blame.

We should all be trained the same. Don't we all bleed the same color? If we are called to help, shouldn't we all be provided with the proper equipment and training? Most of us know what's going to happen to this city. But because of poor training, the city will never get rid of the black eye that's about to come.

Nuclear attack?? WTF, where are we supposed to evacuate to? My Dad used to laugh his ass off at the evacuation plans that they had back in the 60's for Chicago in the event of nuclear attack. Evacuate the city????? Just look at the Kennedy on most days-a standstill, with only a small percentage of the registered vehicles on the road. What would it be if EVERYONE tried to bail out??? A parking lot. My Dad said the hell with it, he was going to pull up a lawn chair, pour a tall Scotch, and wait for the big boom. Morons and their planning-do they ever factor in panic? Or do they think that terrified people will form orderly lines and wait their turns to leave? ha ha ha

When I read that article I thought the same thing. Apparently the author has no idea what he is writing about. That or Rahm now has the national media drinking his cool-aid and carrying his water for him.

Well prepared and a score in the 90s?? WTF!! Did they even look at our clout heavy SWAT Team. A friend of mine on SWAT said our team went out for a SWAT competition in LA and we ended up 29 out of 30. Our team compared to other SWAT teams shot more hostages and were in terrible physical shape. Don't these guys get an hour to work out every day? Sounds like they need less time at Starbucks and more time training. This whole city is a joke!!

Grew in and around ABQ and now in this cesspool.

ABQ: Great people, republican mayor, great PD, state governor who conceal carries every day. Geographically isolated from hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, etc. Has two world class nuclear research facilities - one in a city, one 80 miles away so you know the feds would step in. And if the city burned, enough open desert and national forests to go hunt and survive.

Not to worry folks SC of the DOC is a key player in the NATO G8 planning, problem is, this guy can't even convince his own unit to attend a Christmas party and had to cancel the whole thing. So if he can't successfully pull of a Holiday party what makes anyone think he can help plan a big event like what's coming in May. Way to to lead Steve.

This grade was given from a paper exercise where the city fooled the raters and rolled out equipment and dazzeled them with BS.
One might ask, where has all the money gone???
Where is the equipment?
Where are the radios?
Where is the manpower?
Where are the vehicles?
Where is the dister and riot equipment?

The officers that received 3 days training are the front line guys, all the officers that receive the 1 day training are alleged to be only assist officers covering numerous tasks from processing teams, transport, security, etc. The front line guys will have an additional 1-2 days more of training before May. Manpower is going to be a huge huge issue for the safety of our guys and gals in blue. Rahm is an idiot because when this idea was brewing in his small little head long ago when he first made office, he could easily started a bunch of academy classes continually until now which would have put a lot of officers on the street before the Summits, but no - he didnt.

I don't give 2 flying fucks if changes are coming or not! Unless they promise to place everyone in a gold star position that has actually been promoted off the list not by merit, than this place will remain the same! Oh, those that had the answers to the test need not apply....... We are looking for qualified people not cheaters.

The "no training" thing is typical CPD.

Prepared??? Lake Shore Drive during big snow in 2011. Riots on beach in 2011-close the beaches due to heat.
If there is one major crash on the expressway system, traffic screwed up both directions for hours. Less cops and first responders than ever. Budget cuts due to economy. Lack of enough and proper communication equipment.
Yeah we are prepared.

Dear coward,
Thanks for judging us, even thou your comments are not true! Did your punk a$$ put in a application for SWAT? The deadline is tomorrow 16Dec11. Next time you want to talk smack have the courage to sign your name to your post hero! Or if you choose you can do it in person at Starbucks but I know you won't!!
Hope to see you soon,

Greg Insley SWAT,

No I am not a coward, and yes I have already turned in my packet. Trust me your one of the out of shape, clout heavy, complainers on the team. No I am not lying. Chicago SWAT ended up 29 out of 30 and you did shoot hostages and an innocent role player. Your right it wasn't LA it was in San Francisco. If my kid is taken hostage, I'll call the State Police not you.(lol) Will see how legit your process is. Your a joke like the other Delta Farce wanna be Sgt. AK or your other clout heavy Sgts that have no idea what their doing. Wait a minute didn't you guys shoot yourself in the foot? Lol. Your in shape, half your team can't pass a mile and half run. "Oh my knee, Oh my knee hurts" You guys are mentally and physically weak, overweight and do not have the skill level to compete against SWAT teams which you proved when you went out to the West Coast. Most of those teams are made up of former military who have seen combat. They are in shape, disciplined and have the right mindset. Unlike most of your team I have been in combat. First requirement should be anyone without a combat M.O.S. shouldn't even be on the team. We have plenty of veterans that have seen combat and should be on team. Not wannabes like what we have now on SWAT.

Dear coward,

I will refer to you until you sign your name or talk smack to my face. As far as the swat competition in San Fran, I can't comment on what If anything they did wrong, I wasn't there! But I will say that I wouldn't hesitate to go through the door with any of those guys. As far as being a complainer---- if speaking the truth regardless whose feelings get hurt is complaining than I am guilty as charged. Me being out of shape, I will admit that I am not in the same shape I was when I was playing football back in the day, but I think I am in decent shape for a 40 year old man. What I lack in speed, I make up with strength, stamina, courage, smarts, experience and leadership . I'll take those tributes over someone who can run a mile in half in 8 min or less.everyone who is deployable on the team has passed the ILEAS pt test which is harder than the departments pt test. I will thank you for your service but on the second hand I have worked with several service people that lacked the tributes I described and were just plain out retarded, dangerous and non trainable. For those who choose to come to the team and think they are better than everyone else because of their prior military history we don't want you or need people like you! We need team players not individuals! I don't care about what you did, I care about what you are capable of doing today! I call bullshit to your abilities, because those that can don't brag--- perfect example is our army ranger on the team who was one of them who competed in San Fran. I would like you to tell him that he is out of shape and sucks. I can go on but I don't have to justify my self to you, my record speaks for its self. Don't be afraid to introduce yourself. Signed GI

Read between the lines. Look at the tid-bits of info that are appearing here and there.

Prepardeness for Disasters? Natural or Man-made? 3 days of supplies? All this info begs questions of what is happening, gonna happen or is coming down the pipe.

Financial collapse of Society as we know it? The list of possibilites seeme endless. Ive taken cues from whats happening and have started preparing my home for 3-6 months of bunker down/shelter-in-place.

Cases of bottles water, stocked up on 9mm and 12gauge and canned food etc.

Crazy? Maybe. BUT when something happens resources are going allocated just like police and city services currently are. Draw your own conclusions, but safe to say that you wont see food/water handouts on 811 or 812 anytime soon after an emergency is declared.
