Rahm Apologizes in Advance

Not to the Police and Fire Departments that are going to get a royal screwing next summer. No, he apologizes to everyone who might be inconvenienced by the G-8 and NATO summits:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel is apologizing ahead of time for those who may be inconvenienced when NATO and the world leaders of the G8 gather in Chicago next spring.

WBBM Newsradio [...] reports the mayor acknowledged Tuesday that some people who scheduled weddings, bar mitzvahs, ordinations and other events downtown next May might feel compelled to change those dates because of the NATO and G8 summits and the expected protests.

Emanuel said he’s sorry for any disruption the summits and protests might cause, but he also said he believes normal activities can take place during those days and any disruptions will be worth it.

“For our city that is trying to attract investments and companies; that’s a big opportunity. I apologize up front for any disruption,” Emanuel said. “But I think also we are a big city, a big metropolitan area; people will … be able to be accommodated with their events.”

You think he finally sees what we've been seeing for months now?

There will be many of political 'photo-ops' to shed the crocodile tears in the near future. Just like the one where a reverend was beaten and robbed at his church.

Oh we stand by you the politico's will say nevertheless we are ALL just their tools to be used to win heats and minds for more campaign contributions.

Sold out for the money.

Just like the tax breaks for the corporations -- offset and funded by CPD manpower layoffs and shortages and the average Joe's tax increases.

These people are about as phony as they come.

The G8 and NATO summit should be shut down because it presents a health and safety risk to the general public of this city not to mention the loss business to the small business owners.

Take if down the road. We don't want it. We don't need it. It does nothing for us.

He should apologize to me and everyone else that had sit through that horrible riot training.

First of all, this training is being given way too early. It should done in February the earliest. I'm lucky to remember half the crap I learned yesterday when May comes around.

Second, if these anarchists are as bad as they say then one day of training is not nearly enough. According to the training staff these anarchists are well versed in the law and some even attend an academy of their own.

Now I understand why every copper who has gone to this training says we're screwed. Good luck out there and keep your head on a swivel.

There are angry people all over the world and most of them will try to make it to Chicago to let out their anger. Some who will be sponsored by big money backers will start arriving in the early spring to get the layout of the land and prepare for the event. This does not even count the Occupy groups that will come here in mass. When Da Rah said he was going to put the pedal to the metal to increase tourism I thought he meant families that would go to the museums and zoos. Not groups of people preparing for CHAOS!

Hey SCC, here is a good one to ponder.
If there are thousands of protestors invading the Loop and the city streets are closed down to traffic in May due to NATO/G8 protestors, will the City of Chicago have to reimburse the parking meter company for lost revenue? Especially because this is something Rahm voluntarily brought to the city? How much money could that possibly be? Every Loop parking meter spot times 9 days of lost revenue? WTF!!! The legend of shortshanks and mismanagement continues$$$$$$$

Guess what, Rahm? Some of my 'events' fall squarely within the 14-day stretch that is the 2012 5B furlough segment.

And for some reason, I don't see the Department (at your direction) being too accomodating to me or the hundreds of other officers that, by seniority and collective bargaining agreements, have every intention of making that timeframe part of next year's vacation.

Therefore, I also feel it necessary to apologize in advance. Only I'm not dumb enough to put what I'm apologizing for in writing.

Rahm's apologizing ahead of time for those who may be inconvenienced??? Sounds like a tacit admission bearing responsibility for a disaster-in-the-making of near-biblical proportions.

Did you not view old newsreels or photographs of riots, fires, sit ins, then the lawsuits during and after? There was no investments or money gained, it just headaches and destruction. Our chicago leaders invited destruction and a loss of revenue to this city, and now they only realize they've just ruined people's weddings? (incredible) Really that's the concern, not that it will cost billions of dollars in clean up.

OT:My husband retired today from the Chicago Police Dept. A feeling of relief is flowing through me. After 25 years of service to this city, he has reached age 63 and is finally free of all the politics in this corrupt city. He never played the political game and I am proud to say, he was one of the majority of honest, helpful and best police officers this city has had the honor of having serve the citizens. It is time for him to move on and live his life to the fullest, not worrying about the criminals of this city that he has arrested and put in jail, just to have a judge set them free to kill, rob, rape, burgalize and (the worst crime of all) to abuse or kill a child, over and over again. He has seen a lot, but I thank God everyday that any injury he received was minor. I thank God that he has never been shot, even though, he was in a few situations where there were gun shots. People say, wait until he has been home for awhile, he will drive you crazy. I look forward to it, because his job made me worse then crazy, wondering night after night, afternoon after afternoon, day after day, if he would come home or I would receive a phone call or a knock at my door with the worst news a wife could ever receive. I am grateful that he survived a city, where his life was in danger and the politicians don't care if they are fully staffed or in cars at night alone when they should have a partner. Thank goodness he was on days most of his later years.

The news media, protrays the police officer as a horrible person. These men and women in blue are the same as any other working, tax paying citizen of this city. If you saw them off duty, you would never know their occupation. They have families and want the same thing any other healthy working person wants, the best for his family. They miss a huge part of their children's lives, family dinners, parties and school activities, because of the hours they work to serve and protect each and every single one of us. They deserve the utmost respect from everyone especially the media.

YET, police men & women are the ones being judged by the media day after day, for doing their job. The people they are making the victims are the criminals that repeatedly commit crimes, live on welfare, and are leeches on society. The TRUE VICTIM is forgotten every time, the news media puts one of the criminals or their family on TV, just to hear the same thing over and over again, he didn't have no gun, he was turning his life around. What about the person he shot and killed? Why is this person forgotten??? The low life scum is now the victim and the police officer is the criminal, having to justify his actions. How is this officer rewarded? He is rewarded by the city settling lawsuits that pay the scum or their families millions of dollars. What an insult!!! What is wrong with this scenario??? It is time for we, as a society, to start standing behind our officers, and stand up to the politicians paying lawsuits (this is your tax money) and the media creatures, that are making victims out of criminals.

This department could not be more unprepared for this event if it tried. From the top down. Our management is puffed up with clout heavy merit idiots who have no confidence in us and therefore, yes we lonely people at the bottom can see too, we have zero confidence in our leadership. Not to mention our equiptment issues. I went to the training too, they showed what we should be wearing and then said, "But, you won't be getting it" Then why show it to us jagoff? The they mentioned the importance of shields but guess what? WE DO NOT HAVE SHIELDS AND YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING THEM, then the best is when some 100 pound bone crusher f/2 from Mt Greenwood steps up and shows us a state of the art helmet that would cover our necks, ears and provide protection, HA HA YOUR NOT GETTING IT, now go take a ten min break and be back for more videos of riots and city's being torn up while Police Officers are still being sued for standing there doing there jobs... Nice great training A++ all the way. I am guessing all these clowns in the training with no street experience patting themselves upon the backs given Officers there resumes helps them to feel good about themselves and assures them one day, they too will be the merit leaders of this department. A true Officer and one who has worked knows you don't stand in a room full of working men and say you have been in all these busy districts and working units, no a true Officer knows you show it. Mrs. CPD (RET),

That was beautiful. I hope you and yours live happily ever after. Sincerely.

As a citizen, I appreciate the police, firefighters and EMT's.

In my 53 years, my path has crossed some professional, some mean, some overly dominating, and some ticketing, donation soliciting cops. I've had a pumpd shotgun and a handgun drawn on me (both times due to the Officer being startled & thank God, level-headed & cool. Both times it was wrong place at wrong time).

Never once did I have a serious problem with any one of the cops, even the wound-up pitt-bull mean ones (I figure what they deal with, born as Saints they go a right to be prickly as heck).

I think its because no matter what, I respected them and followed their instructions with no smart alec back talk.

Rahm is about to get real humbled because the leftist are really feeling emboldened, the middle-class is getting really tired of geting shorted and stuck with the bill by Wall Street and the IL kleptocracy.

Coupled with the CPD's hands being tied behand there backs as far as old school policing goes circa 1968, it's a perfect storm for May.

Thanks to your husband for his service.

OT. Was at the Blago sentencing out of curiosity given I was in the area.

Standing in line to get in the courtroom this liberal looking guy (they really have a look for the most part) standing in front of me calls out to this curly dark, red, haired guy wearing glasses with eyeglass retainer "croakies" that you'd see a guy wearing in a racquetball court and dressed in a cheap suit and the guy in front of me calls out to him, "Oh, Hi. I've seen you on T.V. I love your work!". The two exchanges words and introductions with the guy called-out to all puffed out like a preening peacock.

I ask the guy ahead of me in line, "Who was that? Some media person?". "No", he replies. "He represents people who have been abused by the police." I then say (thanks to reading a lot, including SCC), "Lovey & Lovey?" Taken aback the guy says, "Yea." with a shocked look on his face.

Anyway, I was struck as well at just how typical the Lovey lawyer looked and how he couldn't look more silly and greasy had he been walking around with a jock-strap on his head. JMHO

You know you might as well stop whining about all that is coming in the Spring. Nearly all of you tat become involved will do what you have to do to control whatever is going on. Back before the riots of the 60's and before the convention and the days of rage we didn't know what to expect either. All turned out well, at least for the police, not so well for some many of the participants. I know, it is a differet time now, but please remember back then no bosses were telling the troops to go ahead beat the piss out of everybode and I will protect you. We may have more faith that we would be protected, but most of what was done we did on our own without asking for any kind of protection or impunity. For most of us it turned out to be the most fun we could have with our clothes on. It was long hours at times, and boring at times, but for the most part we had good times and good parties afterwards and sometimes good parties during. Somehow it looks like at some point in the training process or somewhere else you guys get a healthy dose of paranoia and become afraid to do anything. Common sense will serve you well during this thing.

Go ahead flame away about how much everything is different and how the bosses don't care about you, or how you will be thrown under the bus. Back in the day we had the sme fears, but we didn't let them parylize us. Hoopefully there will be no more than minor injuries to any of you, and those will lead to a vacation for a while.

I attended the 1 day training yesterday. This city and department are in for hugh problems. Well oiled riot control police train for years for this type of event, yet Tier 1 gets a total of 4 days and Tier 2 gets 1 day of training.

Hopefully the Solyndra situation will bring an indictment for this useless little prick.

FILE IT UNDER:

'DON'T LET A GOOD CRISIS GO TO WASTE'

haha.. I shouldn't really laugh but it would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad -- that you can see right through it.

So we see in the online Trib that Hizzhonor wants dictatorial powers to sign security contracts for the G8 without city council approval.

Excuse me but Chicago mayors have a history of having contractual power already don't they?

I mean everything gets rubber stamped that the mayor wants.

That's how the city that works, works. So is this a mere stage show or does hizzhonor suspect an insurrection?

Gizzhonor also wants to increase the min. fine for protesting by a factor of eight from $25 dollars to $200 dollars and make the max fine a grand while giving Larry Mccarefree the power to deputize the citizenry.

We also need to expand the martial law curfew on children to now include parades and amplified sound.

Free speech will only be allowed from 8am to 10pm anyone on the streets after those hours will be subject to chemical agents or non-lethal weaponry.

This is how you do it.

You create the crisis, you wait, let it build and build and build until finally anyone that even thought about opposing your master plan throws in the towels and says do something, anything...because doing something is better than doing nothing.....and then you can award all your friends security contracts with the city no questions asked right?

Don't worry boys.

Protecting that parking meter revenue for the city of Chicago will be seen as a priority ten times greater then the recent shut down of the west coast ports.

We will deploy the cities private para-military force and spare no effort to protect that corporate revenue.

We will do it all under the guise of our safety...they could give a shit about anyone's safety. The bodies in the streets demonstrate that fact. The closures of the cities mental health facilities demonstrate that. The closing down police district stations demonstrates that. Reverends in the churches getting beaten and robbed demonstrate that. Actions speak louder than words my friends. Look around. Don't be a trick-bag hero.

Then again..maybe someone is getting a little nervous eh?

Speeches and street action - 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago

It's begins with the ceremonial firing of the first tear gas canisters like a starters pistol being fired at a track meet. Followed up by orders of "shoot to kill"

Months prior to the event you instill fear and create a cult-like atmosphere that turns you against your fellow citizens the so-called "enemy"

That's how we done it 1968.

That's how we got the national guard to shoot down unarmed students at Kent State University. They're the enemy.

Keep it in perspective.

Don't be put in the trick bad trying to be a hero. They will turn on you like turning on a dime once the lawsuits fly in the aftermath. It's everyman for themselves and you don't want to be the fall guy,

Protect yourselves so you don't get stripped and lose everything

Political apparatus ratcheting up the fear. Militarizing the local police forces.

Since Chicago lost the Olympics it's the best we can do.

Sorry to disagree, but I am LOOKING FORWARD to the NATO/G8 conventions in Chicago.

Either, they will destroy the city, or they (the powers that be) will let us open up a fresh can of Ass-Whip on those present.

Either way, fine with me. My star will be at home, and my nametag removed. If the boss sends me home because I left my star and nametag at home....fine.

Frankly, I hope everyone who anticipates gettng sent downtown during the protests uses the name of that one officer who is sure to kick ass, and take names....and never have his motives questioned....SEISER!

(That, or Officer DILLIGAF)

Sir Donkey,

I hope your comment is all sarcasm because otherwise, you are a goof of epic proportions for too many reasons to list. And the term is whoop-ass, not Ass-Whip. WTF?

Linda...what a lovely, heart-felt post. Please congratulate your husband on his retirement and don't forget to pat yourself on the back for surviving all of those nights, family parties, school functions etc on your own, as the job of a police officer's spouse is not easy. Enjoy these retirement years together, and I wish you both health and happiness.

No doubt in my mind that Rahm and his slicksters think they are smarter than everyone else and that they can pull this off without a hitch. I , and most of my colleagues , think he's oh so wrong. Burn, baby burn.

"“For our city that is trying to attract investments and companies; that’s a big opportunity.""

After the dust settles from this G-string BS, I would like to see an accounting of the investments and companies that have been attracted, specifically:

1) How many NEW jobs have these new companies created? and

2) How much are my taxes going to go down because of new investments in the city?

I believe 6 months time should be enough to gather the necessary data; so say November 15, 2012 I would expect he will be able to publish how much investment has been done and compare that with the actual cost of the summits to the city and its businesses due to vandalism and lost revenues, and show how we came out on top.

There must be a shortage of Chicago Police Officers . I haven't seen 4 or 5 police cars parked for 2 hours at Bourbon street in Merrionette Park for months now.

12/14/2011 08:51:00 AM

That's because TRU and MSF were disbanded.

Portillos on Harlem and Archer and the original Ricobenes have also seen a steep decline in sales since TRU was disbanded.

Ya know, I went to g8 training the other day and 1 thing struck me, but I didn't have a chance to ask the question, so maybe someone here knows.

One of the powerpoint slides said supervision is key to making this whole thing work. So the question is, how many exempts have received the 3 day g8 training, and have they had any "advanced training" so they know how to effectively deploy their officers? Or are they all going to be watching our mobile command van pod video trying to figure out WTF to do? Hope no one jams the signal....

BTW, I still don't have a gas mask, even though I filled out all the proper paperwork at TARA 1. They ran out of money at that time and never followed up. Imagine that. Now they want a SEVEN page something or other faxed somewhere, and apparently don't have $$$ for the glasses inserts. NICE. Would love to be on the front lines boss, but due to the depts incompetence, I don't have a gas mask...Sorry.

The instructors checked the expiration of the canisters from those who had the mask, about 1/3rd of my class.--all had expired in '08 or earlier. They make such a big deal about fit testing everyone's fit yearly, but your shit's expired. Don't worry, though, they'll new canisters on the day of.

If they expect to use you downtown like they are thinking for 3rd watch, they should really have the 3 day training. One day doesn't cut it.

continuation of earlier post:

Today, he turned in his badge and receive a retirement badge. His badge will be reassigned to a new recruit someday, and hopefully, that young new officer will wear it as proudly as my husband did for 25 years.. Thank you for serving this city with honor, thank you for being you. I look forward to having you drive me crazy, because I will know that you are still with me, and not walking into a crime scene that you may not survive. Happy Birthday, Ron, and welcome home. As we look forward to our 37th year of marriage, I want to tell you something: YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT IN A TIME DUE SLIP for that day. By the way, the dishes are now your job. Love you more then you will ever know. Linda

PS: Thank you to all of the police officers still serving this city. Please be safe out there and when it is your time to retire please know that many citizens are grateful for your service. I know I am. If you see a police officer today or any day please feel free to smile at them and say: THANK YOU!!!

12/14/2011 12:56:00 AM

That is criminal as much as Daley selling a public asset to a private company. Still don't see how that was legal, the city needs that money. Now we have lost millions in revenue for the foreseeable future,

Today, Emanuel basically requested the powers of martial law for the G8/Nato fiasco.

He wants to double all the sentences for certain crimes, "just for this one event".

Have we spawned a tsar? Another dictator for life? I used to be amused by his arrogance. Now, I'm starting to be afraid he thinks he can just wave his hand and make whatever he wants just 'happen'. He's getting really creepy and scary.

100,000+ angry protesters against 1,600 police officers. yeah those are good odds. What group of idiots will be first to spray paint the bean? They keep telling us to not go into the crowd and lock peopled up if you can help it. Easy for them to say after my partner gets hit with a brick, me and four other officers get human piss and shit down our faulty helmits and a fire bomb is thrown over our head and hits a couple officers taking a well needed break. Who's going to be guarding the station parking lots where all our personal vehicles will be parked? How much are the tax payers of Chicago going to have to dish out after the smoke clears and the city is left in ruins? How fair is that my wife and 3 others on my block all work downtown. They have to go to work not only because we all despartly need the money but say they cant call off but because of the summits and all the ignorant asshats, she can't reach work. real smart mr. mayor

Maybe he should apologize to the world leaders coming here in advance for the danger to their safety.

Maybe he should apologize to the downtown merchants who will have their business mobbed, robbed and maybe burned.

Maybe he should apologize to the insurance companies for all the claims they wil have to pay out for the oncoming debacle.

Maybe he should apologize to Barack for the embarrassment this will cause him, possibly leading to a loss of the next election.

Linda,
That was very nice! I also retired this year. Being a cop is so much more than just a job, it is a lifestyle and our heart and soul, even if we don't want to admit it. And being such, it is very hard to walk away. I am adjusting to retirement but I loved and always will love this job.
I wish you and your husband all the best! God Bless

RE: Why did your husband wait until he was 63 years old? I was curious? Was he forced off the job or did he really want to retire? I hope he lives a long retired life and enjoys the pension. Unfortunately officers forced off at 63 years have trouble adjusting to civilian life.

He has wanted to quit since he was 58, but the housing market fell apart. He will collect SS to supplement his pension so we can stay here until the spring. Michigan bound someday...

Thank you for your lovely comments. Take care out there, my heart is with you...BE SAFE

Move the G8 to ENglewood. Rahn wants to promote it so skip mccormick place, have it a jesses opeation push and keep the protesters in the only park that has any opening...sherman park on loomis / racine....bet no protesters show up then.
