Another brilliant CPD command decision.
Major restructuring of the detective division by melding five areas down to three.
So lets remove the Area Five commander BEFORE the planned January initiation.
Let's leave the logistics of this project to one lieutenant and the sergeants. Oh yeah on paper we can come to the Area Three commander for direction.
Let's move JS to a unit that has not had a commander other than a lieutenant for months.

Did anyone see the Mary Mitchell column this past week blaming the first responders for the E2 tragedy!? I can not fathom how even a rag of a newspaper can staff itself with such uninformed and biased writers, let alone featured columnists.

I was a first responder at E2 the night of the incident. In fact, I was an officer that was regularly assigned to E2's beat. Hey, Ms. Mitchell, maybe you can't get the image out of you head of the poor souls with their faces pressed up against the glass doors because your imagining what you saw! The people were not pressed up against the doors. There was a 3 - 4 foot gap between the doors and the first person in the stairwell. I was there! I stood in the gap and tried to pull the people off the top of the pile. You want proof? The glass out-swinging doors were unlocked! It would be easy for the doors to have been pushed open. You don't believe it? Had the doors been locked, under both the city’s municipal code and the state statutes, this would have been a huge fire code violation for a crowded club and the owners would hold the responsibility for the tragedy once again. What club locks the front doors with a packed house? None! The fact is that the doors weren't locked and the only thing holding people back from getting out were the "classy professionals", which you stated frequented the place, that were literally walking on the bodies of those suffocating on the bottom of the pile! These were the same "classy professionals" that were also walking on and over the first responders that were giving CPR to those that we thought we could save, because they wanted to get back into the club for the jacket or purse left inside. These are the same "classy professionals" that threatened paramedics because they wanted their friend with the sprained ankle put into the ambulance before the non-breathing crushed soul.

Yes Mary, I worked E2s beat for years. Which "classy professional" was it that you went to E2 with? Was it the one who shot a patron in cold blood in front of the place because he showed up to the club with a white girl? Maybe it was the one that was racing around the club showing off his ride, then ran over a young man, fleeing the scene, leaving him to die in the street? Oh wait, possibly it was the one that shot his ex-girlfriend, who died in my hands, behind E2 because he was jealous of her going to the club without him!? I know, I know, it probably was one of the many that we caught in the Burger King parking lot across the street selling all sorts of narcotics to those attending the club and restaurant. And these “classy professionals” were just on my watch. If one were to go back through the files for that location they would find incident, after incident, after incident.

Yeah Mary, E2 was one hell of a classy place, with soooo many "professional’s. Professional gang bangers, professional drug dealers, professional shooters, etc, etc, etc. There was no reason in the world why the city should not have had the tax paying public shell out a boatload of cash for more "police presence" around the club. That’s what they work so hard for, to pay the police to baby-sit the ”classy professionals”.

Honestly Mary, if E2 let you in the front door, I couldn’t think of a place with less class.

No explanation is necessary, dear blogmaster(s). It could conceivably assist in identifying SCC (he, she or they) to vicious and vindictive scoundrels that "can't handle the truth".

Meanwhile, a message to the likes of Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg and local media:

Do you actually expect that sane yet "anonymous" active (and often truthful) CPD posters would jeopardize their livelihoods by identifying themselves on this blog site?

Despite the protections of 42 USC 1983 as promulgated by the First Amendment, retaliation and even pretextual separation could be inevitable? I know this to be a fact. This is Chicago.

Stay well, SCC. You provide a invaluable service which may prove to be incalculably enormous in bringing about actual reforms in the most politically corrupt major city in the nation.

Make no mistake. Virtually all local media is either intractably obtuse or is in bed with the political powers that be (or both). I submit that the latter is incontrovertible fact.

God bless SCC and the Internet.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the good guys and your loved ones.

Chitown50 well said. God bless and be safe. As for mary mitchell, she's pretty much a relic of the bill ayers era. The Goverment/Establishment, the police, the middleclass etc. are all to blame for the perpetual victimization of every north, south, and westside urban terrorist and their neighborhood accomplices. If she didnt find fault in the real heroes of that awful tragedy, police, fire and paramedics, she would actually have to place the blame on her buddies, jesse jackson, the asshat lawyers that owned the joint, and every stinking gangbanger that shes becomes the willing mouthpiece for. Gotta love mary for her bullshit.

In regard to the guys in 018, that was uncalled for. Many years ago I was a new patrolman. My partner and I were eating in a restaurant on midnights. A lost out of towner came in and asked for directions to the expressway. My partner very sarcastically told him we were eating. The man sheepishly left. To this day I feel bad about that. I am ashamed of myself that I didn't have the courage to get out of the booth and assist that man. Isn't it funny the things you remember?

STAND-UP GUY 2011 AWARD GOES TO:

That doesn't sound quite right to Jody Weis, the former head of the Chicago Police Department.

"There's a lot of questions with that and I think somebody should look and find out what happened. That doesn't make sense. That is not using technology," says Weis.

Weis says it's not too much of a stretch to think officers would divert the cameras. He says when he was in charge they had a problem with officers turning off the cameras in their cars, "and I think it was because people had a fear, we don't want this camera recording what we're doing and I don't know how many times I spent and said 'Guys, if you're doing your job correctly this camera's your greatest friend.'"

Weis says cops are allowed to use force, and if it's caught on video, the video will show that it was necessary. Gibson's attorney Torri Hamilton says the same thing.

THANK YOU! to the previous post that asked, if we can bring in an outsider to run the police department, why not an outsider to be mayor?, then offered this YouTube link to a great speech by Philly Mayor Michael Nutter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgIOqlhBtAc&feature=related

Yes, Nutter is a liberal and campaigned for Obama, but at least he can give a great speech to his own black community and "tell it like it is," just like Bill Cosby has done over the years. Nutter makes the pathetic Jesse Jackson Sr. and Jr. look like the race-baiting, self-serving spineless fools that they are.

A true conservative will never be elected mayor in this liberal city. If we must have a liberal, let's get rid of Rahm Emanuel and replace him with Michael Nutter. After all, the Illinois Supreme Court already ruled 7-0 that you need not really be a city resident to be mayor!

Take one (or more) of these and call me in the morning. Doctor's orders.

Traditional Hot Toddy

1 oz. whiskey (it may be blasphemy to the Scottish, but the sweetness of Irish or Canadian whiskey works best in a Toddy)

1 tbsp. honey

1 cup hot water

Juice of half a lemon

1 cinnamon stick

Pour the honey into a mug and add the whiskey and lemon juice. Pour the boiling hot water on top and stir with the cinnamon stick to combine. Then head for the couch and see what sparks may fly.

Hope you fell better SCC.

Illinois: The land of leavin’?

If migration trends tracked by the nation’s largest moving company are any indication, Illinois is getting less crowded.

United Van Lines has been tracking moving trends since 1977. Its study released on Wednesday looked at all moves that involved either going to or leaving a state or the District of Columbia.

Illinois and New Jersey tied for the largest outbound migration, with 60.5 percent of moves involving those states heading out.

The study over the years has accurately reflected migration trends in the U.S., said Carl Walter, vice president of United Van Lines. The data is so accurate that real estate firms, financial institutions and others use United’s data for planning and analysis, he said.

What happens when you combine two very bad retailers, K-Mart and Sears, into one big retailer called Sears Holdings? You get a very bad $4.8 billion retailer. The company is also expected to lose another $2.35 per share next year!

We're propping up old companies with taxpayers bailouts that are resistant to change and just hanging on.

How do you like it so far?

We bail out the clouted ones friends and then place them on a pedestal for all to honor and worship as though their success was achieve through hard work and perseverance.

This bullshit illusion has gone on for too long and needs to end. Half of these so-called Corporate America success stories would not survive unless they get special treatment from the government via tax breaks and government grants.

The talk about "free markets' is all krap. Look at the corporate favorites lining up as their tax breaks expire. In Illinois we just handed out several big ones and there's a hundred more companies lining up for more.

This shit is not going to stop unless and until we get corporations out of politics. We MUST break this circle-jerk of campaign contributions for tax breaks.

Plain and simple people. Until we do the political apparatus will continue to steal our pensions, our savings, our wages via taxes while protecting the corporations that give them the most money.

Look at it..the State of Illinois is throwing money at a company that's on the road to bankruptcy.

In regards to borrowing against your differed comp. the answer is no. When you signed up the told you that you could use that money in an emergency. Apparently there idea of an emergency is different from mine because I needed the money to for a medical bill and was told no. My brother had a child born who needed medical attention that wasn't covered by his HMO and while it was eventually given to him it was 6 months after he requested it. ‎'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the streets,
not a person was stirring, 'cept an officer on the beat.
As he quietly patrolled the town with great care,
children and parents slept peacefully there.

... The officer was clad in his blues and his vest,
gun on his hip, always looking his best.
He'd just pulled aside for a quick bite to eat,
When all of a sudden, out on the street,

A bright light appeared from out of nowhere,
He shielded his eyes from the brilliant glare.
'Twas an angel of the Lord at the squad's rear,
He smiled and spoke, "Dear Officer, don't fear."

"I've been sent by God with a message for you
who faithfully serve while wearing the blue.
He wants you to know He loves you all,
He's pleased with the way you've answered His call.

"To protect and serve others, so selfless you've been,
Your bravery and kindness have known no end.
Even in tragedy, when nights became long,
You've helped countless strangers by being strong.

"God sees your heart, the joy and the pain,
He knows the profession can often bring strain.
So he sent me here to let you know,
That as you patrol, He goes where you go.

"As you protect others, your Father protects you,
His angels go with you, His Spirit does, too.
No bullet too fast, no bad guy too strong,
I'm sent to make sure that your life will be long.

"So fear not the night, and fear not the day,
fear not the threats that might come your way.
I'm sent to accompany you on your beat,
There's not one moment you're alone on the street."

The officer sat stunned by the love of His God,
He bowed his head, with a tear gave a nod.
As the officer said thank you, the angel took flight,
"God's got your back, carry on, and goodnight."

if your looking to get sick then you should've been in area 3 as they took down the wall. Opening up ceiling tiles as mold and whatever else falls down... people trying to work here are breathing in dust so thick its disgusting.

Know lets see how long the plastic wall stays up?
Not like anyone notices though there's only 5 Dectectives working at any given time here anyway. Maybe a couple sgts if lucky.

Deffered Comp. - 457B

Public empolyees are in 457B retirement funds. The City of Chicago dictates the rules. It is possible to borrow up to 50% of monies up to $50,000 in a $100,000account contingent the City would change its policy in conjunction with IRS rules. It is up to the City of Chicago Deffered Comp. Committee and PEBSCO to make this change. The Deffered Comp. Committee and PEBSCO are afraid that should a change be made regarding the rules to borrow from YOUR FUNDS, that it will result in a run on the monies. The run on the monies would result in increased administrative costs to PEBSCO, which is supposed to service its members. Employees in 401K plans are allowed to borrow from their funds.

Should a member want to change the rules to borrow from your deffered comp., I suggest you contact your Alderman, union repesentatives, the Deffered Comp. Committee and Pebsco.

IT IS LEGALLY POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE DEFFERED COMP. RULES TO ALLOW MEMBERS TO BORROW FROM THEIR FUNDS!
