Unoccupy Chicago

  • 'Why would anyone want to live in Illinois?" So muses Curt Wooters, who works for the state and helps his dad run the family's sporting-goods store in Findlay, 200 miles south of Chicago. Imagine California without the sunshine, New York without the cultural elan, New Jersey without Chris Christie. That's Illinois.

Mr. Wooters has another five years before he can retire, but he's advising his kids to leave the state after college. He's also talked with his dad about closing their shop because it costs too much to run a business in Illinois these days. Plus, "the customers are leaving town."

Chicago is sucking the life out of Illinois.

Findlay is a great town on an even better lake. Shitcago ruins this whole state its a fact. Its policies and way of business are affecting everyone down state. The politicians up here have no concept of a true way of life. We need this city to implode. I pray everyday it does. Its killing our state and our lives.

The Daley machine has sucked everyone dry and left town as planned

Not counting the politicians in the shithouse it looks like there may come a time when the pols will have to start flim-flaming each other to make a dis-honest buck. Illinois/chicago will be a ghost town/state.

Will the pols qualify for welfare when there is no longer a dishonest buck to be made ??? Serves the greedy bastards right !!!!!!!

Let me clarify this for everyone: Chicago politics are killing the State. If you weren't paying attention, it's killing the Nation too.

Every one of these criminals, and yes criminals is the correct term, needs to be voted out of office through out the State and Nation.

As a small business owner I was disappointed that Illinois failed to pass concealed carry. I don't know who I fear more, the criminal element on the street or the politicians in Springfield and Chicago. Both take my money leaving me only one choice- MOVE TO INDIANA

Not to mention that Chicago and county of crook, keeps the other 101 Counties from having conceal carry and if you look at when blago got elected, only three counties went for him. Cook and the Counties around East St. Louis.

Anobody watch the show Undercover Boss. It's on the OWN channel. Great show and after watching the 3rd or 4th episode, I thought to myself - although it wouldn't be a secret and everybody would know who Garry McCarthy is, it would be nice for him for a whole week to work a car on afternoons in the ghetto during the summer along side all the troops. Maybe then he would realize that their is a back log everyday we come to work. maybe he wold realize the dangerous and insane manpower shortage we have to deal with. maybe he would get denied his lunch. maybe he would see how people motherfuck us and spit at us and lie on us making false allegations. after locking an offender up, maybe he would see that its not to safe in the station especially after unarming ourselves while processing the offender. maybe he would realize that it sucks that half the computers dont work in the station and that we have no supplies and paper. maybe he would realize that driving in circles for 8 straight hours in a small deployment action zone box is utter madness.maye he would realize after attending court that the court system is broken and almost always in favor of the defendant. Maybe he would realize what it is being a Chicago Cop!

That Chicago is in decline is indisputable, and that the Daley machine deserves the lion's share of the blame is also a fact. What I don't understand is why some of you gleefully take pleasure watching the city implode. Like it or not, if you've got some time on the job and own a home, your financial destiny is tied into Chicago.

If Chicago, or Cook County, seceded from Illinois, then the collar counties would be truly screwed, as they would need to subsidize Downstate even more. You think those rural counties pay taxes at rates that cover their roads, their police, their other state services. No way. Rural areas are subsidized by urban areas, and if Chicago was its own state, all those state taxes we pay would be spent between Rogers Park and Hegewisch, and we'd all be better off. Then the downstaters could either let their roads fall apart, or raise their taxes to pay what things really cost.

Raised both my sons not to stay in Chicago, Cook County, State of Illinois. Made sure they went to university out of state and travel abroad to schools during 3rd year. Husband and I worked every overtime gig we could get because we felt it to be that important. I showed them the great places in the city and state and told them that it is a nice place to visit not live in. I also showed them the rest of this rancid city and told them that there is nothing for them here.
We always discussed the shameful political mess and the waste of money and human spirit here.
Chicago, Cook County, State of Illinois lost two great citizens because my boys are better off NOT here.

It's interesting to note that the northern states are now taxing their way out of economic prosperity and growth. Let me give a few examples. My dad owns a gas station and in this crooked county, it's based upon the value they designate. In all reality the property value decreased from 3.3 million dollars to 1.3 million dollars. However, the property taxes went up. Now because the property taxes are so high, even if he wanted to sell it, no one in their right mind would buy it. So he shut it down (5 people are out of a job).

In 2004 the cost of a liquor license was about $400 for the entire year. Slowly they kept increasing it. Today it's $1000 for six months and thus 2K per year.

Those are just two examples. If you compare the cost of doing business in places like Illinois, New York, New Jersey to the southern states it's a no brainer.

This is amusing..

Hizzhonor is pumping up the propaganda machine that there are over 100,000 jobs in Chicago that are currently going unfilled because of "skill gaps"

Yep, it's that tired old bullshit about going back to school to get re-trained for the jobs of the 21st century.

Well guess what?

Hizzhonor then goes and provides an example of a company needing 600 welders and aircraft mechanics.

How long has the position of welder been around now? How many of the major airlines have cut back and laid off their mechanics and machinist over the last few years!?

Yeah...think about it. He want's us to believe that there's a shortage.

On top of that a check of the job boards such as Indeed.com...well just go and read the stories there. Starting pay $13/hr. Poverty wages that qualify you for food stamps unless you want to go work in a war zone and live in a tent.

Then however you will not be working in Chicago now will you?

In fact you'll be tax exempt if you're willing to stay outside the country for a year.

Anyways as a confirmation of how that go back to school for retraining is the people being trained at Chicago city colleges the corporations don't want and are not hiring because the schools are failing. So it's been a scam.

Hizzhonor is going to fix it so don't worry. It's going to be fixed by offering yet another form of corporate welfare. Check it out.. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203893404577100772663276902.html

I tell you what. If these companies "can't find the skilled workers" in a trade that's been around for 100 years the working conditions don't match the compensation.

If they city colleges are unable to produce the skills corporations want than all those diplomas and degrees have been nothing more than a ponzi scam. Worthless distractions.

I think it's all more political bullshit.

Here's some money Gov'na....
" As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Dahl reports, the state's Department of Natural Resources is announcing a grant from the U. S. Department of the Interior for the Abandoned Mine Lands program within the DNR's Office of Mines and Minerals."
Good going JellyQuinn,
just what the State needs, shovel ready J-O-B-S.
Wow, $24 million to fill in abandoned mines. I didnt know dirt and the trucks to haul it cost so much. Now if only someone could have told ShortShanks those 'Hired Trucks' could of actually done some good.
Do you think the O'Bongo Adm. can find some pay dirt to bail out OUR pensions?
These abandoned mines from the 1950's thru 1977 left open and neglected by politicians only to expand government bureaus. Now it's a problem, 50+ years later and we're going to make it right.

Has anyone else, given notice to all those fences, that were erected, during the last mayor's administration ? The ones I have looked at, our in sad shape. Rusting, and in need of paint. The metal, appears to be of low quality. It never appeared, to me, to be of the quality, needed for a long term run. I am not a engineer, but the one's I have seen, used a lot of cement for the footings. Also, the footings are placed very close together. It seems to be way over, what was needed for, a cheap piece of fence.
Can anyone else give some input ?
I would call Mayor Daley, but he never left a number we could reach him at.

Of course, this is all talk: No way no how Chicago or Cook County could ever be the 51st state, because that would mean 2 more Democratic senators. Same reason why DC will never be a state, or California will never be split in two. The "Great Compromise" which made the Constitution possible back in 1789 continues to determine so much of our political situation that it's kind of sad. If you live in Illinois, New York, California, or another very populous state, your vote is actually worth less than the people who live in Rhode Island, the Datokas, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska or other mostly empty states that get one Representative in the House but two Senators. Gridlock is our nation's fate. Get used to the traffic not going anywhere.

Chicagoans always seem to think that they pay all of the taxes in Illinois. It isn't true. If The Chicago metropolitan area were carved off into a separate state, the rest of Illinois would be far better off, financially and politically.

Calling the rest of the state "hicks" only shows how hickish you are.

@ Bill

Your ignorance about the founding of this nation is quite amazing. The people in the small states didn't want to be dominated by the big states. It's the same reason why it's so hard to change the Constitution. Why would the other 47 states want to be ruled by California, Illinois and New York? Get a clue you mush brained dope.

@ Bill:

Would you agree to having Texas split into 4 states and adding another 6 Republican Senators?

If you think your vote is worth less than a vote in Montana or Vermont, then move to Montana or Vermont. Nobody forced you to live in Chicago.

You know what's really unfair? The fact that 51% of the people can vote to steal from the other 49%. You're just pissed because the Senate is preventing your fellow thugs from robbing taxpayers on a nationwide scale
