Homicides Climb by One

  • Chicago police have launched a homicide investigation after a 27-year-old man who was shot in October was pronounced dead Monday evening, officials said today.

Laurel Brown of the 6100 block of North Sheridan Road was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted today determined that Brown died of pneumonia and quadriplegia from a gunshot wound to his neck, officials said. The office ruled his death a homicide.

Brown was found with a gunshot wound to his neck on Oct. 9 on the 5100 block of South Ada Street, according to Chicago Police News Affairs....
Still six days left in January and the numbers don't show any sign of slacking. Do we have a current count?

Let's see if I have this right. Sell dope, stay out all night, sleep all day, call the police for every bullshit reason we can think of, and pay no taxes but get all the police service in the world. Sonny is right the working man is a sucka.

Did you see McGoof's comment to Sneed in her Tues column? I quote: "The number of shooting incidents is flat in comparison to the same time frame last year," he answered when asked to comment on the 73% increase in murders this Jan over last Jan 2011. "Our focus is on reducing the number of shootings, and the murder numbers should follow over the lont term." Holy shit! So our focus is not on murders committed by stabbing, bats and clubs, feet, cars, hands, etc... That is the most assinine answer I have ever heard.

I just heard a report on the radio that although homicides are down in past few years, the clearance rate is now at about 32%. In 1991 they said the clearance rate was around 80%. You figure out why. Keep peddling those lies Garry.

Yesterday's Sneed Column

Cop shop . . .

Mayor Rahm Emanuel may have been ecstatic when Chicago had a day without one homicide last week, but . . .

◆ The kicker: There were 33 murders this year between Jan. 1 and Jan. 23.

◆ The shocker: Sneed has learned that’s a 74% increase from the same period last year, when there were 19 murders.

◆ The flip side: “The number of shooting incidents is flat in comparison to the same time period last year,” Top Cop Garry McCarthy tells Sneed. “Our focus is on reducing the number of shootings, and the murder numbers should follow over the long-term.”

I guess the bangers are getting better at hitting their targets then huh? Now the "focus" is no longer Homicides it's now
# of shootings? Don't you like how they manipulate the numbers and say "the number of shootings are flat compared to last year? How about comparing the number of shootings to the last year Cline (an insider who knew the city and the Bosses potential) was here. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Cline because he mostly
took care of his cronies but they did for the most part perform their duties.

What people don't see is that when Weis came in crime
increased and particularly Homicides (15%). It took him a year of "transition" and "challenges" (so he called it) to learn the city, politics and overall system. Then for the following two years crime decreased right back to about where Cline left it. Needless to say we paid him over a million dollars for a three year contract (310K a year plus 76K of unused vacation time) for absolutely nothing. Now, McCarthy is "experimenting" the same way and HOMICIDES are up 73% YTD compared to last year but hey "shootings are flat".

The concept that McCarthy and Mayor don't grasp is that the CPD is participating in what is known as "Depolicing" -
a de-facto police strike, where the police withdraw an aspect of their crime prevention services. It is a practical police protest at perceived political interference in their day-to-day task of policing.

This is due to the moral being at an all time low! Officers are being held accountable for doing more with less personnel (back-up). There hasn't been any promotions for Detecives in over four years or Sgt.'s in a couple. When they did promote Sgt.'s the last two rounds they promoted 30 of which only 21 came off the list and 9 meritoriously. Not to mention, it's been over 7 years since they gave a Detectives Promotional Exam and 6 years for Sgt.'s exam.

And people are wondering why crime is up?
Sure the unseasonably warmer Winter has played a factor in the increase in crime but since there is about 200K less people in Chicago then 10 years ago one would think that would offset the increase.
I'm telling you from what used to be a "proactive" patrolman who has almost two decades on the job and knows several hundred Officers thru out the City and Units that used to be "proactive" as well. We are all doing the bare minimum and being only "reactive" and that seems to be the norm from one end of the city to the other.

OT:

We are still four months away from the G8/NATO, but the damage control has already started. Don't worry about any of the negatives that the G8/NATO may bring to the city, because there's going to be a youth soccer tournament!!

OT. FOP endorses Fran Hurley for Il State House 35th. Why do you ask?? If Frannie wins, then she'll support the FOP's candidate/choice for crook county sheriff which will be vacated by Dart. Also the FOP always bows down to what the 19th ward says. Stay tuned

stop pandering to the west/southside reverends and the media, let the police do their job

deport all the illegals

sterilize all the baby mommas who breed like there is no tomorrow, decrease all gov handouts for each kid, not increase.

keep the felons in jail, no early dismissal

in a few years you will see a dramatic decrease in crime

Reading comprehension is a skill.
1. a domestic stabbing=1 homicide
2. a drive by shooting-2 homicides

And 3. he pointed out a third just over the border, for your added entertainment!!!!

How many hundreds of crimes did they commit in the meantime is the question.
