Tommy Skilling Earns Another Medal

  • Police say on Wednesday, no shootings or homicides were reported in Chicago for a period of 24 hours, for the first time in nearly a year.

In a statement, police Supt. Garry McCarthy credited the lack of violence to “the tremendous police work of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.”

He pointed out that since May of last year, the department has placed 1,000 officers back in districts from special units, and instituted the data-driven CompStat program to track and fight crime.

The reality is that the daytime temperature was under 20 degrees and the wind was bitingly cold. As we go to post time, the temperature is six-degrees and projected to drop even more.

Tommy Skilling deserves at least as much credit as CompStat, probably more.

While all this may be true (OK, OK...NONE of it is true with the exception of the temperature), those pesky little media people need to have someone forward them a screen shot of I-Clear's homicide screen.

THERE THEY WILL FIND THE 42%+ INCREASE IN HOMICIDES OVER THE SAME TIME AS LAST YEAR (19 FOR 2011 vs. 27 FOR 2012).

These stats seem a WHOLE LOT more bleak than the drivel the folks in the ivory tower are spewing, huh?

Hey Rahm and Garry. If you're going to lie, you've gotta learn to cover your tracks a little better. Someone needs to get this disclosed before the computer wizards make it all go "poof"!

This is the perfect weather to gather great intel on violence in the city. Go back refresh you brain on most wanted, crime patterns, community outreach. This when the beat cop can do some great work!!!This is when personnel assign to specialized units can learn how to gather intel and impact the safety and security of this great city.

This is when search warrants, wanted offenders and warrant arrests need to peak.
This is when you realize that your job is not any different than mine and what you do compliments what I do.

Great to have you all on board. Stay safe.

Really! Do the police say that or does McCarthy say that? Words are a powerful thing.

No reported shootings/homicides doesn't necessarily mean that none have occurred. Maybe we just haven't found the bodies yet eh?

Uh-oh!!!

Woo-hoo we broke the Jan 2011 level woot-woot

So much for the year over year declines. The monthly comparisons vs last years month has been in an up trend for how many months now??

At least five months in a row right? It has to be at least four months.

Twenty-nine homicides and counting for Jan 2012. Eleven days to go.

When it warms up, somebody will call in a "suspicious odor".

We will find a few lifeless bodies. Maybe in the trunk of a car just thawing out. They could be in a basement wrapped in duck tape or laid out on a garage floor.

They could be shot in the head "execution style" or had their throats slashed.

Maybe even we will find a stack of decapitated bodies in a neat pile on one side of a room and a carefully arranged row of heads on the other. Just like they do it in Mexico.

More likely it will just be a cold corpse found in a dumpster, typical of the west Side.

Anyway, Detectives will come, even if it is weeks or months later, and carefully work the time line of the violent death(s) back to this Wednesday cold snap. Just another case of McWhat's-his-name talking bullshit.

Stay Safe, and warm.

Watched the show "Brick City" about Newark. When Gmac got there he did a citywide warrant sweep (like he did here too), berated bosses at COMSTAT that results were good but not good enough, and bragged to the media about a murder/shooting-less time frame (like today, even though murders are up from Jan 2011 by about 8). I can't wait for the next episode so I can see what he will do and say next.

I worked on some problems in 025 with then fireman Nick Sposato when I was there. He is a great guy and was very committed in solving some of the problems in the community that they were having over there. I was both shocked and happy when he won the elction. Shocked because he was/is not part of the evil, corrupt cabal that permeates the city council and yet was able to win and happy because a true asset to the community, a man who could and would make a difference was finally able to rip the reigns of power from the corrupt 36th Ward Organization. I also wondered how long it would take City Hall to weaken him if not even remove him from the equation. Apparently not very long. I guess what Paddy Bauler said was true. Chicago ain't ready for reform.
BTW, Alderman Sposato is not a friend of mine. He does not owe me anything nor I him.I have not seen him in years and probably never will again. I just hate to see good men like him jagged around because he will not play ball with the criminal element in City Hall.

The Alderman (Fireman) of the 36th Ward asked the Hispanic caucus if he could join their group because a majority of his ward is now going to be Hispanic. They told him in essence to go fuck himself. He was on the news and was very upset. Shows how arrogant minority politicians get when they get some power. There could also be some political payback because this Alderman beat out the connected Democrat candidate in last years election. Sign of the times.

The Idaho Potato Commission along with Gov. Butch Otter have instituted their version of CompStat. Since its inception, CompSpud, Idaho farmers have re-deployed thousands of migrant workers, known as compassinos, from standing around Home Depot and into the fields, freeing up lazy good for nothing's to stay on street corners and collect welfare. Eventually this hard work will lead to citizenship and a taxpaying workforce to sustain the States handouts.
CompSpud will also track and fight the dreaded potato weevil.
Farmers expressed amazement for having their first 24 hour period in which no incidents occurred between the reds, the whites and Yukon yellows.
