The Seattle Template

  • Nobody’s ready to start talking about the "mean streets" of Seattle. But an alarming spike in street violence in this usually mellow city has everyone running scared. Mayor Mike McGinn, calling the increase a “public safety emergency,” pledged Monday to beef up police patrols and urged citizens to help combat lawlessness in their neighborhoods.

“This is an issue that requires more than just a police response,” McGinn said at a community meeting in the city’s hard-hit Rainier Beach neighborhood, one of several hit by killings this year. Many of the nine slayings so far this year remain unsolved.

“I cannot emphasize enough that our response to crime and safety in our communities is dependent upon a very strong partnership between city government and the community,” he said. “Everyone who lives here, who works here, who shops here, and who comes here to enjoy what Seattle has to offer deserves to feel safe and secure.”

Gee, nine murders? Around here, we call that "Englewood."

But seriously, even the language reads the sale as what we were hearing after the downtown wildings the media refused to cover for months. We have a feeling this "public safety emergency" is a phrase that might be seen a lot this summer.

Isn't It Ironic? The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever. Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to "please do not feed the animals" because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.

This is how communities that don't pander to the ghetto element react when crime occurs. Here they just stick their fingers in their ears, close their eyes and hum very loudly when the issue comes up. We wouldn't want to upset the entitlement crowd with the truth.

Seattle Police Chief John Diaz must drive through the South Pct. with a bullhorn shouting "Knock it off!"

If this fails, arrangements must be made to release Gary Leon Ridgway, the most prolific known serial killer in U.S. history, from the penitentiary at Walla Walla. Provide Ridgway, also known as "The Green River Killer", with a nondescript van and weapons to prowl the South Pct. until the situation stabilizes.

Dear Citizens of Chicago:

Please do not let yourselves be fooled by such articles. This is Chicago and NOT Seattle. Things like that do not happen here.

You chose me as your ruler because you understand that I know what is best for you. I want you to trust me as I say to you in the most transparent way possible, we do not have a crime problem here in Chicago. I believe in this so much that I am willing to continue reducing the total number of police officers on the department, just to prove to you that even I believe every word that comes out of my mouth. If I believe it, then you can, too.

What people consider as crime get blown way out of proportion and grossly exaggerated. Please know that I have everything under control in this city. And somewhere in my list of priorities is your safety and well being. I will never let Chicago become a Seattle. You can bet on it.

Sincerely yours,

Rahm Emmanuel

This city is so naive and stupid.

The only people that can properly take credit for pushing gangs to the burbs are the dumb yuppie scum who flocked here to drink and fuck to stem their boredom of the burbs. Now that their hair isnt purple anymore and they have sobered up and have kids they are saddled with huge mortgages in condos built by polocks and are feeling the "rahm hate" of taxation, squeezing them into foreclosure and back into their moms basements.

So hilariously true. I had friends who bought condos in Bucktown for $800K. No that is not a misprint; a freaking condo for $800,000. This was back in 1999.

They just loved raving about living in the city and how much it's changing, crime is down, the schools are great, they are happy paying high property taxes because the city is so wonderful.

Now they have two kids and the wife is out of a job. They are about to default on their mortgage and want to move back to Hoffman Estates.

CALIFORNIAZATION...

I have friends in Seattle and have been there a few times. Had things been a little different I might have been a Bellevue Washington Cop.

Californization is what happens when there is any major disaster, natural like an earthquake or forest fire or manmade riots or economic collapse and some Californians say they have had enough and move to Seattle. Seattle has a good climate with a mild winter that has long cloudy periods with misty rain that can last for weeks.

The Seattle has many high-tech companies with a low unemployment rate. Seattle/Everett Washington is the REAL HOME of Boeing Aircraft and many other high-tech companies. There are lots of coffee shops, theaters, restaurants and a great public transit system.

Washington state also has a very liberal public aide and medical assistance programs and this helps to create the "birdfeeder effect". It is also what you would call a “sanctuary state”.

So when and crisis befalls California there is always a few people that say the hell with this California lifestyle pull up stakes and move to Washington. With any immigrant group, you get the criminal element moving in along with the good. Washington was a great place to live but by putting out the “birdfeeder’ and becoming a “sanctuary state” you get the term "Californiazation".

When Munoz is allowed to remain uninvestigated, unindicted, and untouched as alderman, despite the Chicago Magazine revelations, and he is only emboldened to run for Clerk, then you know that the article's point that the criminals are running the government.

Daley: years of familial corruption, much well-documented.

Burke: years of familial corruption, not as documented in media but easy enough to find.

Cullertons: years of familial corruption.

Mell/Blagovich: years of familial corruption; only the "ethnic outsider" who speaks so blatantly on wiretaps he should have expected, is actually prosecuted and eventually convicted.

Munoz: criminal gang family.

Jarrett: corporate slumlord socialite, teamed w/corporate white-collar criminal Penny Pritzker (Superior Bank, looting of relatives' inheritances, etc - Read Gus Russo's "Supermob" book for more Pritzker chicanery)

Fitgerald/Alvarez: hacks who refuse to investigate and prosecute the serial political corruption, content to pursue the samll fry. This is comparable to pursuing the streetcorner dealers while allowing the distributors and gangleaders to remain untouched. Ever so often an aging and/or minor-player corrupt politician is arrested (Beavers, for instance) to distract voters.

Our government has zero interest in aggravating its voter base (20% gang association?) and political donator base (gangleaders, reverunds, and non-resident downtown business "leaders"). There's no recognition of street crime run amok because we're witnessing a policy of fairy tale: "what you say, is what you believe". Why recognize the crime problem and lack of civility if to address it means a politically unpalatable discussion of inherent criminality in lower class behavior - which will offend Jesse Jackson and the Reverunds. Our city-state emperors, first Daley and now Emmanuel, don't recoganize a rampant lawlessness of their many citizens, preying upon other citizens, because it's a problem they can't tackle, won't tackle, and thus chose to ignore. If you don't give something credence, then it simply doesn't exist for you.

Notice how the same two dozen community-corporate leaders are always appointed to civic task forces, boards, and blue ribbon committees. Always the "don't rock the boat" hail and hardy folks who are also major financial contributors to our elected officials. Never new blood. Everyone vetted beforehand to ensure that everyone is "singing from same page". Lots of pompous people determining our fate while actually only serving their own interests and ego.

Chicago has never ever had the quality of governmental leadership, or corproate leadership, present at many other more progressive and successful cities. Our representatives (talk Healy and Davis) tout Chicago as an "international city" panacea, as if such self-identification cures the lack of responsible leadership from themselves and their cohorts.

G8/NATO month will be telling. I'm hearing that downtown building owners are likely to board-up their storefronts in advance of the protests, and certainly most are stockpiling food, cots, and provisions for their building staff. Pity the office workers trapped in their cubicles during that week. At least they won't be teargassed during the protests, because McCarthy's comments suggest that someone realized that the downtown buildings' fresh-air intakes would absorb much of that tear gas, and suck it into their HVAC systems, to gas their occupants too.

(OT) With all the G-8/nato trouble coming why would a Chicagoan let a bunch on animals from all over this country and world come here and destroy this city, then they go home with the memories and rest in their peaceful areas? With all the "real men" we have here we can hope and pray that some organize and come downtown to show the morons who are coming to destroy just what men are made of! Just think a few of them get the shit kicked out of them not by police but by taxpaying citizens whop don't want the city wrecked, their woman and children hurt also!

Citizens of Chicago this si not about rahms misguided views this is about YOU and YOUR families, you think things are bad now with Quinn cutting many things for the poor wait until the costs of this savage destruction are tallied! Toronoto spent over 800 MILLION dollars for security to keep the animals at bay and the city was still mostly destroyed!

The Chicago police are getting no help from the suburbs per Chuck Goudies report 26FEB12 www.abc7chicago.com click on I-Team report, so it is up to you the citizens to use "social networking" to compare notes and if needed take up arms to stop the invasion! Chicago is not Toronto,or Seattle, we handle things the "Chicago way," no you will never see the liberal media calling for a response as "if it bleeds it leads" is their credo!

THE QUESTION IS? ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH TO GET INVOLVED AND ASSIST THE POLICE? OR WILL YOU HUNKER AND HIDE? YOUR CITY YOUR CHOICE YOU DECIDE!

Hey SCC:

I'm sure you notice the thread on Detective Shaved's blog: "Detroit citizens no longer rely on police as self-defense killings skyrocket
The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners....Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies."

After Rahm Emanuel has decimated our police force, response times will be like in Detroit: about 25 minutes, compared to the national average of less than 10 minutes. As the saying goes: "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

The good citizens of Chicago (black, hispanic, and caucasian) will eventually realize that as long as the handgun they keep in their house was purchased legally, the penalty for not going registering that gun is a slap on the wrist, and unenforceable, due to the fact that it is essentially un-Consitutional. Remember that wonderful, elderly black gentleman a while back thay shot an intruder coming into his house? The city did not penalize him even though his lawfully purchased gun was not registered.

Citizen of Chicago: you do NOT need a crystal ball or a psychic to see into the future...just look at Detroit! Yes my friends, YOU TOO can participate in Justifiable Homicide to keep yourselves and your families safe. The city ordinances are just a paper tiger, and basically "fine only."

Ironically, this is going to be the future of the CAPS program: police encouraging citizens, and "partnering with the Community," encouraging Joe and Molly Citizen to arm themselves .....

Deb: well, we're training folks....uh
Stevio: the Hawks aren't doing so good...
GMac: we need sufficient numbers of people trained, and equipped, to man the front lines, of each and every protest group, and establish a line of control....how are we doing with that?
Stevio: well, we started out with front line guys, then with third watch folks (lots of personnel, young and energetic); someone suggested we send the second watch personnel to the protests, folks who have 20+ years service, maybe they would have more "tolerance" and "understanding" for the protestors....
GMac: are they equipped?

I love the way they say we are pushing gang members out to the western subburbs. They also said we have the biggest gang problem in the nation. They estimated the gang members to be 250,000 strong in the Chicago land area.

A normal person would know nothing is under control with 250,000 gang members. They are moving to the subburbs because there is less competition with rival gangs and a whole uncontrolled drug territory. The economic trends are fueling the gangs as they did in the great depression (1920's).

The news papers and news stations lose all credibility, subscribers and viewers by not telling it the way it is.

The police officer's enemy isn't who he or she stands in line with at the supermarket, it is the politician who wants to take you pension and bargaining rights. You have an honorable profession. Please don't distract yourself by attacking the food stamp consumer. You have greater enemies and opponents in the public arena.

Look at the big picture. Broaden your mind. It isn't just about a bag of cheese. We have more similarities than differences. I respect and appreciate what you do as police officers. The police officer's enemy isn't who he or she stands in line with at the supermarket, it is the politician who wants to take you pension and bargaining rights. You have an honorable profession. Please don't distract yourself by attacking the food stamp consumer. You have greater enemies and opponents in the public arena.

you make some salient points, though, i suspect, you've missed understanding the truly bigger picture.

the main problem is that you see yourself as a 'food stamp consumer', yet, you appear to not see yourself as a dependent of those whose earned income, (and i emphasize earned, as in worked to receive), is excessively taxed to fund your consumption.

and those 'politicians' you refer to, are, in effect and in actuality, buying your vote for their election/reelection, by paying you with these so-called 'entitlements', funded entirely by the excessive taxes paid by those who do actually earn their incomes.

so, when you say that we have more similarities than differences, i assume that you mean that, since i'm paying the taxes that put food in your belly, we're practically family, right?

@Alex...you misunderstand the whole point of the post. The USDA tells us not feed one class of animal as it breeds dependency, yet fosters dependency thru SNAP of another group. You may have a legitimate need, I don't know, but I can guarantee that myself and my fellow cops have more experience dealing with people who don't deserve it than you do. We are tired of dealing with people who have a LINK card in their pocket along with more money than I carry in a month. I'm tired of people getting disability for asthma! I HAVE ASTHMA! In fact I believe its a result of the Gulf War. I don't get disability. I'm tired of talking to people who get a check for a "learning disability", who eventually admit they never went to school..THATS THE DISBILTY! No, that's bullshit!

"So hilariously true. I had friends who bought condos in Bucktown for $800K. No that is not a misprint; a freaking condo for $800,000. This was back in 1999.

"They just loved raving about living in the city and how much it's changing, crime is down, the schools are great, they are happy paying high property taxes because the city is so wonderful.

"Now they have two kids and the wife is out of a job. They are about to default on their mortgage and want to move back to Hoffman Estates."

Good riddance.

I see the poor, the quiet, the elderly who have not slept in a regular bed for ten years now. What they have left is in boxes in the corner.

There were PEOPLE in all those buildings.

For every conversion of a rental apartment to a condominium, there was a family forced to move.

And move.

And move again.

Maybe from 4 1/2 rooms to 3 1/2 rooms to 2 1/2 rooms to 1 1/2 rooms to 1 room.

Can anybody guess the next step?

This immense upheaval, this ruinous expense and tremendous suffering and disruption has been completely ignored. A non-story, as it were.

Now I see huge luxury condos with desperate "For Rent" signs on the building. If someone could afford to rent that monster, they could afford house payments.

Oh -- the overall plans are to throw the renters out and convert those new buildings to condo ownership the second the speculators think they can swing it. Don't get caught again.

"urged citizens to help combat lawlessness in their neighborhood"

I don't think he would like my idea of helping very much. I don't dial 911.

Man, when the bubble burst, there were some great newspaper stories -- one had-it-all, on-the-way-up young couple with fancy vaporjobs had just married. His condo, her condo, and they had money on a huge McMansion being built out somewhere.

The guy was, like, mildly perplexed that he'd listed the condos on the Internet for a whole week-and-a-half and they hadn't moved yet.

He was flexible, though -- had planned for all eventualities -- and was prepared to tough it out for "two or three months" if he really had to.

How many years back was that?

I'm tired of you jerks saying that you "miss Jodi" and "miss Daley". They're BOTH pieces of shit that stole/steal from this once-great city and brought morale down to an all-time low.

We see a new all time low every day.
