Suspected Killer Convicted
- A reputed gang member who was once implicated in the killing of a Chicago police officer – only to have those charges later dropped -- was found guilty today by a federal jury on drug charges.
Prosecutors said Jason “J-Rock” Austin was overseeing a 24-hour heroin and crack market at Kedzie Avenue and Ohio Street known as “KO.”
Austin was charged by Cook County prosecutors in 2008 for killing off-duty Chicago police Officer Richard Soto and Soto’s companion.
Prosecutors dropped the case a month later due to lack of evidence and problems with statements from witnesses.
At this point, we'll take what we can get. Maybe with this scumbag off the street, someone previously unwilling to come forward might feel a little safer doing so? This case was a straight up textbook example of gang intimidation, witness tampering and lord knows what other mischief.
Oh, and Ms. Sweeney? Officer Soto's given name was Robert. Bobby to his friends. Please correct your article.

Wait. Once they start pulling in and indicting co-conspirators in this, someone is bound to spill the beans.
No doubt it's a tight circle involved in Soto's murder, otherwise there'd be others charged accordingly.

Over the next five years, Chicago will purchase 500 Ford Interceptor sedans and SUVs built at a South Side assembly plant that recently added a third shift and 1,200 jobs, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Friday.
The $15 million contract is the product of a reverse auction. The results are a boon to Ford and the $200 million it has pledged to invest in the Torrence Avenue plant.
The Torrence plant is the only plant in the U.S. to build Interceptor sedans and SUVs. The company has received orders from 40 state and local governments across the state for its 2013 Interceptors.
“When Chicagoans can manufacture automobiles that will keep Chicagoans safe, this city is a better place to live, to work and to raise families,”the mayor said in a news release.
We give the "Secret Squirrel" units a lot of flack - some deservedly so - but while in 011 I knew what these guys were doing and they were on it for years.
They missed a lot of t-ball games and family birthday parties. They worked round the clock some days - and I know they were constantly switching their rdo's according to target's schedule. But they worked hard and took down all the right j/offs, including giving what would amount to Cook County "murder time" in the fed to the main players.

I personally know the two involved officers. They did everything by the fucking book. They didn't include that Abatte was the police in their report because they didn't know he was the police. If they did, they would have wrote that down in the report.
