Crime is Down...

  • The robbery Friday of a Northwest Side Albany Park bank branch was at least the 50th this year in the Chicago metropolitan area. In all of 2011 there were 115 bank robberies in the Chicago area, according to the FBI.

Friday’s bank robbery took place at the Albany Bank branch, 3400 W, Lawrence Ave., according to the FBI.

No weapon was shown in the robbery.

No weapon? So that makes it a theft instead. And the feebs investigate bank robberies, so CPD probably won't even count it in the stats. But it's still March and we're almost halfway to last year's totals. Indicative of a larger trend?

OT - Was heading home on Chicago
Ave near Damen this a.m., and saw some young drunk latino chasing 4 others around the 2000 block of Chicago with an aluminum bat. Said drunk then drops bat to show how tough he is, and young female picks it up & bashes him in the back of the skull with it...they then proceeded to beat him until noticing I was on phone with 911...
Don't know if 911 got it wrong or what, but CPD responded 1st, and secured the scene. Then the hysterical (drunk) family members arrived, and I got the hell out of there...

Great job by CPD in securing a really chaotic scene on arrival. I don't know how seriously this would be investigated, but I gave descriptions, etc., and stayed on with 911 while I pursued the 4, until told not to. My only concern was why the bat wasn't searched for? I told them that they ran off with it, but in the 1/4 block before I picked them up again, they ditched it. That ought to provide prints, maybe more, right?

Anyway, it's a crazy world, kids. Watch your asses.

if a note was shown implying offender had a weapon or a verbal threat implying a weapon, then it's an aggravated robbery per your incident reporting guide. dont worry, everybody makes that mistake...i have guides on sale.....$ 5.00 bucks each...get one..the incident reporting guide is still boss.

Bank robberies go up as a poor economy settles in. And you know darn well it's a robbery not a theft if there's a threat.

Economy's bad, gas prices at a all time high, no jobs. (thanks B. Hussain O) Short police. no quick response units like TRU or SOS, beat cars stuck in violence zone boxes. (thanks McGenius)

Unless the above changes we will have a record year for crime.

The threat of the imminent use of force makes it a robbery even without display of a weapon and it will be counted in the stats - its called the Uniform Crime Reports.

You two are a little slow on the uptake. Re-read the post. It was a sarcastic shot at killing crime.

Nobody really thinks a bank robbery won't be classified as exactly that - a bank robbery.

Yep, this was first adult arrest for the 17 year old, BUT HE HAS FORTY THREE (43) juvenile arrests that run the UCR gamut.

One of the others arrested has 3 prior Residential Burglaries and is out on parole. The third jagoff is also a convicted felon (if memory serves me correctly) and should also still be behind bars for his last pinch. You can thank governor Quinn and Illinois/Cook COunty law for allowing these assholes to be as bold as they are.

No doubt this crew of assholes were responsible for 90-95% of the burglaries that were occuring over the last couple months, specific details withheld here for obvious reasons. It'll be a relief to see the numbers drop off, at least for a while. It's just too bad that these assholes didn't have the misfortune of confronting some off duty copper that could've blasted every last one of them dead.

Lastly...A BIG THANK YOU to the 008th district coppers that go out of their way to keep an eye on the neighborhood. Your hard work and diligence is appreciated.

Just to think these idiot bosses keep talking about crime being down!

In the last few weeks nothing but "non-stop disturbances and mayhem" in the early morning hours on the weekends!

On the 800 and 900 block of west Belmont ave. and all around Clark st. and the Belmont Red Line stop of the CTA Train Station, with the "He-Shes" running around like gazels in the early morning hours jumping people!

Commom denominator "M and F 1's" Democrats from the Southside!

Go figure!

But crime is down! Yeah my fucking ass!

800-900 block of Belmont is the new 019 District, where we do not have the manpower on midnights to handle petty theft and mayhem from those unruly misfits you speak of. The bosses continue to down multiple cars per night, even though we have the most POs than any other district in the city. Avoid that area at all cost.
