Officer Shot

  • A Chicago Police officer has been shot during a foot chase on the South Side tonight.

The South Chicago District tactical unit officer responded to some sort of "juvenile disturbance" when he encountered an individual in the area of 84th Street and Kingston Avenue, police said, citing preliminary information. It happened about 10:30 p.m.

Shortly thereafter, the individual ran away from the officer and the two ended up in a nearby backyard, police said.

The individual opened fire on the officer, striking him in the chest, above his bulletproof vest, police said, adding that the officer might've fired back.

Prayers only.

UPDATE: Person of interest being questioned.

Video footage of command center is a joke, its a reflection of how short CPD is in manpower. Bodies filling the seats monitoring crime were suburban cops and they pulled people up from the fourth floor to fill the seats.

Updated: March 20, 2012 12:45AM

A 47-year-old Chicago Police officer was in serious condition after being shot in the chest Monday night in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The male officer was chasing a suspect on foot when he was shot about 10:40 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Kingston, Chicago Police spokeswoman Melissa Stratton said.

Dozens of fellow officers gathered at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and were anxiously awaiting news of his condition at midnight. The officer worked in the 14th District.

Police did not immediately have any information about whether a suspect was in custody.

SCC,

I wrote this on March 18, 2012 and thankfully you published it under the thread "What a night!". I wrote, "Furthermore, I hate to say this, not only will it be a bloody summer for the citizens in Chicago but also for our fellow brothers and sisters in blue." Sadly I was right. May God heal you my fellow brother.

Mark my words that FOP is quiet for a reason on being undermanned. Shields and company have already sold us out with the city. This is the perfect opportunity for Shields to call for a press conference and tell the citizens we are undermanned. Furthermore, I hate to say this, not only will it be a bloody summer for the citizens in Chicago but also for our fellow brothers and sisters in blue. I have been on since 1992 and I can tell you what I saw on the South side last night shocked me. I have worked in 006, 007 and 002 and I can tell you we are done as a police dept.

Police: Prognosis ‘good’ for officer shot in chest on Southeast Side

BY KIM JANSSEN ANd LEEANN SHELTON Staff Reporters March 19, 2012 11:42PM

Updated: March 20, 2012 10:51AM

Chicago police say the prognosis of an officer shot in the chest Monday night on the Southeast Side is good after doctors were able to stem bleeding.

The officer had been transferred to the intensive care unit at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn following surgery Tuesday morning, Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said.

On Tuesday morning, the Chicago Police Dept. said doctors were able to stem bleeding and the officer’s prognosis was good.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy spoke to reporters outside the hospital Tuesday morning and said officers executed two search warrants overnight and were questioning a 20-year-old person of interest.

Police spoke with several other witnesses and do believe they know where the gun involved in the shooting is located, McCarthy said. It was also possible officers are searching for a second weapon...

You are a fucking idiot. FOP won't even publish the retired police officers. FOP doesn't give a damn about us. When has FOP released a statement about manpower shortage? How about all the districts closing? What did FOP say? Whoever you are you need to stop drinking the FOP Kool Aid. Face it idiot, the union is not looking out for us. If they were they would have been calling a press conference after the violence over the weekend. Zero, not a word. Not a word over the police officer getting shot and the manpower shortage. Roll on your stomach, Mikey needs love. Your the reason why we as a dept cannot move ahead.

As the details come out -- this was BAD. 9mm was apparently used. No time to wait for an ambulance; officer hit was put into a squad car and they floored it to the nearest hospital, where he was stabilized.

Otherwise I don't think he'd be with us now.

Pat Camden seems confident that "we got who we were looking for," too.

Good work, everyone.

He has a long road ahead to both recover and to ease the fears of his family. DO NOT POST ANYTHING HERE…INCLUDING ANY SECURITY INFORMATION, but in a day or two think about finding out from your Unit where he lives and stop by with a meal and maybe some flowers for the Mrs. They need to know we got them too, they are our family along with Del. You don’t have to stay; just let them know we’re here if they need anything and were in it for the long run with them. They’ll be busy—and scared.

Ironic > exactly 10 yrs ago, almost to the hour this officer was shot > I believe Don Marquez was shot while serving body warrant over what seemed like a harmless housing violation issue to an old man, age 77, on the northside. Who would have guessed that something so minor as that would prove to be so deadly ? I know most the entire Marquez, especially his parents, and both sets of sisters and brothers.

Fortunately, this officer seems as though he will recover as of this afternoons news report ?

Get well officer, my prayers go to you and what your wife and children are going thru right now. To the members of CPD this year is going to only go from this to worse. Gangs have gotten use to doing what they want, they get stronger and bolder each incident. They have the people so terrified they don't resist. This has happened in the past, and we call them terrorist now. No real punishment for those who try to out do the other person. They laugh at our laws, and know how to use them for their own benefits. They run the gangs from inside our prisons. Soon this city will be like Columbia, we're the politicians think they control it, but the gangs are the real government and controlled everything. Soon they will be killing the lawyers who oppose them, followed be judges. They allready are killing citizens and police officers.
To you officers on the front line, be safe, be strong. Train in firing your weapon once a month or more. It will save YOUR life. Be aware of people around you at all time, on duty and off. These terrorist are out to hurt you and your family's . It happened before and going on right now.

Feel free to stop by 4228 N Hermitage, Rahm Emmanuels house, and stage a protest or whatever. WE have the freedom of speech and his home address is public information, WE will not be silenced by a general order that violates OUR rights, this isn't North Korea Mr Emmanuel.

I'm one of manyDetectives assigned to the shooting in 4 last night, by the time we arrived the dept. had the Command Van and Light Truck in place. The officers and Sgt. in charge of this crew are the best, anything that we asked for they did, above and beyond, I know that this is their job, but they go beyond doing thier job each and everytime they help us out. THANK YOU !!

Any mutt with the balls to shoot a uniformed copper doesn't deserve to take up space in prison. He needs to be found and then brought out in a body bag.

Prayers for your quick recovery officer.

Spare us the theatrics. Shields has been in the press about manpower since he got in office. Say what you want about him, but saying that he is in bed because he is silent means that you have your head up somebody's ass.

The FOP publishes what the City provides. If the City doesn't provide the names of the retirees how will FOP know? The only other place to get those names is the pension board and I do not know if they will provide that information to the FOP.

The person down at personnel who used to provide the list of retirees names has retired and took the knowledge with them when they left. Now the job is not being done and the FOP has to figure another way to get those names.

Typical City bullshit.

Blame Tracy Ladner who is in charge of personnel, not FOP.

The system is broken and rapidly getting worse.

===========

Are you fucking dense? The Pension Board? Maybe if we had somebody serving on the Pension Board, the FOP could get those names? Somebody like Shields who still holds the Pension Board spot along with the FOP Presidency? My g-d, how do you manage to breathe?

As the details come out -- this was BAD. 9mm was apparently used. No time to wait for an ambulance; officer hit was put into a squad car and they floored it to the nearest hospital, where he was stabilized.

Otherwise I don't think he'd be with us now
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
"GREAT JOB!"
TO HIS PARTNER,OFFICERS ON SCENE! SOUNDS LIKE HE WOULD HAVE BLED OUT IF WAITED FOR MEDICS!
FAST DECISIVE ACTION ON THE PART OF HIS BROTHERS DEFINITELY SAVED THIS OFFICER'S LIFE!!! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU & SPEEDY RECOVERY!

To other officers who may find themselves in a similar situation, Brian recommends being transported to the hospital in a squad car. The ambulance that was dispatched took 12 minutes to arrive and did not administer any first aid on the way to the hospital.
This was from an officer shot on the expressway.
When the two officers were shot in 011 in July they were transported immediately from the scene by a squad car. Not a bad idea to not wait for an ambulance
