Prison "Not So Bad"

  • On Wednesday, former Governor Rod Blagojevich will make his final public statement before reporting to prison in Colorado. Why did he chose Englewood Federal Correctional Institution?

Because his sentence is more than 10 years, Blagojevich is not eligible for a prison camp, as was the case with his immediate predecessor former Gov. George Ryan and nearly all the other defendants in Chicago area political corruption cases. Blagojevich is headed to a low security prison in Colorado where he will serve at least the first few years of a 14 year sentence.

[...] "And more importantly, that institution has more visits more times a week than other institutions in Illinois. It's really not a bad place," Larry Levine said. Levine, a former inmate, now makes his living preparing the recently convicted for life in federal prison. When he says "it's really not a bad place", he means that in a comparative sense.

Good riddance.

sorry but If I was going anywhere away from my family no matter how "nice" it was its not good enough. I would wither and die without my kids and wife. I feel bad for this entire situation.. not really blago, but I do feel very bad about his daughters. I know we all hate blago but im sure his daughters adore him.. as most young daughters do adore their fathers. I do feel bad for those girls. Their life will never be the same... and blago has nobody else to blame but himself. And shame on his wife, she knew the risks and she knew exactly what was going on too.

Poor Rod. Don't drop the soap, Elvis. Too bad you couldn't take Madigan, Cullerton, JJJ, Obama, Shortshanks, Emil, and/or Rahmfather with you. You should have sold them all down the river.

Just think how fucked up the City will be when he's eligible for parole in 12+ yrs?!!!! Hopefully, I will have fled this sinking ship by then.

Wouldn’t it be great if Blago used some of those14 years to write a book and rat out everything he knows on everyone?

I know its wishful thinking because if tries I am sure they’ll kill him.

Can't wait to hear Blago's statement. Why doesn't he turn on all his "buddies"?

You can't tell me that Blago acted in a vacuum. Never voted for the guy and never cared for him, but he would not have had his hand out, unless there was another hand on the other side of the table waving some money.

As they say, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." When in Illinois, better bring lots of cash for a job interview.

Can some of us new guys who haven't been exposed to the moron judges and city officials get some heads up on who is and is not pro police? I'd hate to vote for someone who is just going to turn around and fuck us. I already know a few judges who will NOT be getting my vote.

I would just vote Rep down the line, but I don't know if that's safe to do anymore. I'd rather be more informed than that.

Prison is prison, whether is has tall walls, barbed wire, guard towers or just a thick line painted on the asphalt that you can't cross over, you are still in prison.

Blago deserves to go away, but not a 12+ year fucking over he got from the Feds.

There are too many other politicians in this City, County and State that deserve 12 years, not Blago who didn't get a dime out of this.

Anyone else notice Beavers has the same judge -- Zagel -- who oversaw the Blago trials and sentenced him to 14 years? Zagel was the head of the IL Dept of Law Enforcement in the early 80s and seems to be a fair judge who doesn't believe or tolerate the BS some judges do.

A__hole here is going to make a big "statement to the press" at 5:02 PM for all the news shows.

I would urge a boycott -- everyone save their sanity and simply not watch it. There'll be nothing new.

The night he was convicted, he stood there outside of his house and talked and talked and talked and TALKED until the camera crews, one by one, simply gave up and switched off their equipment.

The man ia a psychopath.

The guy's getting "white-collar" treatment when a lot of ordinary people with a long sentence like that would --

A. Go from MCC to the Federal "distributor" in Oklahoma City,
and from there to a really mean penitentiary. The process can take months before they arrive at their destination -- handcuffed in vans, handcuffed in airiner seats, etc.

"When [parasite Larry Levine] says "[prison] is really not a bad place", he means that in a comparative sense."

Yeah, maybe compared to Devil's Island or the Gulag's Taishet prison camp, where the prisoners treated railroad ties -- and themselves -- with creosote.

In our joints, you may not physically freeze or starve, at least in most of them, but it's the people in prison who make prison hell.

One word to remember -- NOISE.

90 minutes of sleep per night -- in three or four pieces.

14 years.

Happy trails to you...

All Blago did was talk. The last time I checked talking is protected conduct under the first amendment. How much money did Blago get for Obamma's Senate Seat? Did any money change hands? If Blago is the seller who was the buyer? Fourteen years is a long time for just talking. I think the Fed jumped the gun on this and Blago got railroaded. I will pray for his family. It is another sad day for Illinois and the City of Chicago.

Tells you a lot of things.

++++++++++++++++++++++

I'm not a fan of his either, but the punishment here does not fit the crime. Was he a part of a conspiracy to sell or make good off of the senate seat? Probably. Is he a loud mouthed dummy who does not know when to shut up? Definitely. But I agree with the above poster. I was part of a case where an armed robber went into a gas station in Mt Greenwood, put the clerk in the back room and robbed the place. Foot chase search the yards blah blah we catch him. Turns out he's on parole for armed robbery not out of jail six months. He pleas, get ten years. AFTER he already did about 8 years on the first one.

Blago gets 14? as big a stroke as he is, he got too much time for what he did.

George Ryan's actions led directly to the death of the 6 Willis children and he gets a six pack? Holy shit.

In the mean time, Jesse Jr is ready to make the drop for the seat and he doesn't even get indicted? Gee, I wonder why?

there are a couple supermax federal prisons around canon city Colorado. blago could use some time down there in solitary confinement with 4 walls to listen to his blather. if we are lucky Jeff skilling from Enron in beautiful Littleton will make blago drop his soap and he'll wish only the walls could hear him call for Dick mell to save his big hair.
