Rahm Says "Please Don't Leave"

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a message to the middle class: Don’t leave my city in pursuit of a high quality, high school education for your kids.

The message accompanied a promise, issued during an exclusive interview with the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday — the same day the mayor announced he was doubling the size of an International Baccalaureate diploma program in the Chicago Public Schools. A recent study deemed the program extremely successful in preparing neighborhood high school students for college.

“Don’t head for the doors when your kid’s in fifth grade or sixth grade — for the suburbs — because the city of Chicago is going to give you a high-quality life with a high-quality education for your children,” said Emanuel, speaking in his office and flanked by Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard.

Sorry Rahm, we just don't see it. And the way you're treating the teachers, we don't see the high quality instructors sticking around just to starve to death in a broken system.

Why shouldn't my kids get more for my money, too?

Whoop-tee-do.

The city is busted and all bets could be off by next week and we should hold on if we have a kid in the fifth grade because of some program that may not exist tomorrow let alone four or five years from today.

These leaders change laws and words and agreements on a whim. What's the definition of "is". How do you define residency? What will be the meaning of the "International Baccalaureate Diploma" next week?

Let me ask you what free speech means, what freedom of assembly means. Your and my definitions are not their definitions.

These leaders promised to pay into public pensions and did they keep their words? Made promised about taxes and did they keep their words.

No Rahm. We are not going hold onto hope for the future of our children based upon political promises or twisted words. Hope is not a plan.

My son's 2nd grade teacher retired at the end of last school year, after a 28 year career. She was a MONTESSORI teacher at a local public school Academy. My child and classmates were challenged by her to push their limits. They wrote haikus and hosted a poet's punch brunch in their classroom. My child and classmates were doing multiplication, fractions and conversion to decimals. (I don't think I did that until 4th grade?) A few weeks ago, she'd sent me an email asking how we were doing and in particular, my child. She called and they was SO EXCITED….they spoke for nearly an hour and you could hear how thrilled and happy he was to hear from her.

Teachers like here are long gone from this cesspool.

The school STILL has excellent teachers…but like her? Not even close.

As soon as we find better opportunities in Florida…WE ARE GONE.

Will the last person out please turn out the …never mind…Tiny Dancer 9.5 will need them to see what's left of what, once upon a time, was a great city.

many candidates for admission to selective enrollment schools were not accepted despite an almost perfect score on the entrance exam--- this was due to tiering by zip code--- that means that a child who scored way below what your child scored was given their spot because they live in a bad neighborhood--- " please don't leave "-- hey asshole, fuck you--- you are dropping 75,000 dollars for your kids this year to private school--- your house is tax free as it is listed as a jewish school--- you are summarily a slimy piece of shit who is only worried about number one and could care less about the education of any children in this town except your own--- obama dumped you for a reason, you are a loser and a filthy thief....

Because YOU KNOW the non-contributing, wildly fertile and violent flesh-eating, gun slinging, spraying bullets, shit & misery, straight demo-commiecrat voting zombies on the West & South sides along with their sanctuary city cousins aren't going pay shit.

They WON'T BE COMPELLED TO PAY SHIT!

The middle class in Chicago are slaves to these non-contributing shit-heads and is being rooked because we're outnumbered even though we pay the freight to make the damn thing go.

If there's ever a group of people who need their asses kissed long & hard after a yakuza style apology by every rev'run, media whore & politician (9.5 will be known as 8.5) it's the middle class tax payer.

Hahaha.

At the end of the day, idealism will ALWAYS take a back seat to the innate animal-wisdom we all have programmed into our brains.

There are a few kook ideologues whose skewed beliefs are so etched in stone they're actually willing to sacrifice the well-being of their children on the altar of deluded idealism- and send them to a Chicago Public School or live South Shore- but at the end of the day, no matter what mantras they may chant to prop up their own self-congratulatory bullshit, when it's their own little precious Justin or Taylor in question, they get damn practical in their thinking awfully quick and start considering more stable options.

What's so annoying about this particular brand of hypocrisy, though, is that these same people are usually great champions of certain 'social ideals' when it's impacting someone else's kids. So, when it's buttfucking a neighborhood like Beverly or Hegewisch, getting overrun with CTA retards and Section 8 Shitheads, they're all for that brand of 'diversity in the public schools' but when it comes time to put rubber against the road and place their own children in the environment created by their own ideals, well, maybe the suburbs would be a better choice.

It's really sickening.

I live in the 22nd district. last night on my street I witnessed a mob of teenagers of epic proportions. some kid had the brilliant idea to host a house party. a few hundred of his "friends" showed up. neighbors starting calling, police showed up. two squads and one suv. after they left a short while later the kids kept arriving. after many calls from neighbors police showed up again in large numbers. what really struck me as odd was as the police had several cars with their lights on the kids kept walking up the block toward the party! they had no fear of the police, no regard for the fact that MANY of them had open alcohol in their possession. when I was their age and you were at a large party and the police showed up you RAN for fear of getting arrested.not these kids they could have cared less. I guess my point is I saw first hand how easy with the aide of a cell phone word can get out and you will quickly have a few hundred gathered in one spot for no good with the police out numbered ten to one. oh and did I mention most were driving? cars lined up and down the street from 107th to 103rd. these kids for the most part were just looking for a house party but had a few wanted to "act da fool" things could have gone from bad to ugly in a matter of seconds. thanks for all the officers who did show up and flush these brats out and believe me they took their time leaving. I saw from my front window how with the use of a cell phone you can gather a massive amount of people in a short amount of time, quickly out numbering the police. be safe out there and thanks for the job you do.

“Don’t head for the doors when your kid’s in fifth grade or sixth grade — for the suburbs — because the city of Chicago is going to give you a high-quality life with a high-quality education for your children,” said Emanuel.

======================

I won't be heading for the 'burbs, Asshole. The family and I are heading out of this godforsaken state altogether.

The ONLY reason I live in Chicago is that I'm held captive here as a requirement for this fucked-up 'career' with the CPD.

Chicago does NOT "give you a high-quality life", nor can my children receive the "high-quality education" in the CPS school they would have to attend based on my home address. With the exception of a handful of charter schools, my kids won't get a good education at damn near ANY CPS school.

Paying 5K in property taxes and having to wait 2 1/2 years after 6 City Service Requests and a visit or two to the aldercreature's office to get the crater at my curb fixed is not what I would call a "high quality life".

Nor is not seeing a beat car down my street in a month or two.

Nor is seeing ever-increasing gang grafitti in the neighborhood.

Nor is the influx of shit residing in and floating around areas that never had them before, compliments of Section 8 and Chicago's Sanctuary City status.

Nor is being passed over on promotional exams to cater to the 30% meritorious that just don't "test well".

And on, and on, and on.

A high-quality life in Chicago my ass. Maybe if you're a Madigan, Vanecko, Daley or someone else related by surname to the numerous others that are part of the Democratic clique that has bled this city dry since Old Man Daley tapped the spigot.

High-quality ANYTHING related to the next Detroit? Shit, Rahm, even YOU didn't think Chicago was good enough for more than leaving boxes of personal effects in a crawl space. Remember that? And are YOUR children attending a CPS school? Didn't think so.

Just keep trying to keep the Sheeple in the dark, Rahm. Most are too uneducated to read a paper or interpret the sugar-coated reality as spewed daily in the media anyway, so that shouldn't be too big a problem.

There is no gang problem in Chicago. The beaches really DO close down when it gets too hot. There really are 13,500 patrol officers on CPD. There are no roving bands of black youth infiltrating the tourist areas surrounding the downtown area damaging property, beating and stealing from non-blacks and causing mayhem in general. There is no corruption in the city council. The articles I read this weekend about connected families getting CPS milk contracts was a mirage.

These examples of why people are fleeing this city in droves doesn't even come close to scratching the surface. But what do you care, Rahm? We all know you have aspirations that'll take you out of this city once you're through wrecking it further as mayor.

Only it'll be after this first term, as you won't get a second shot at further sinking this place..

Maybe if Rahm stopped his CPS principals from pissing away money than there would be more money left for the sorely needed programs.

Case in point, on Friday March 9, 2012, Prosser Career Academy High School's principal Kenneth Hunter threw a 'catered' birthday party for himself. The bill for the party was over $500 and was paid for out of Prosser's discretionary fund from the school budget.

Hunter invited only his asskissers to the party during 7th and 8th periods during the school day with 3-4 of the teachers leaving their classes unmonitored for lengths of time to attend the party.

Here's the big thing here: Princpal Hunter normally makes Prosser's culinary arts students put out a spread for visiting dignitaries and takes it out of their budget. But, for his own birthday party, Hunter wanted good food to celebrate on the taxpayers dime.

Ask the coppers assigned to Prosser, they'll verify the story.

Just a simple question: If the school system is so good, why is it that influential Democrats send their kids to expensive private schools? None of Daley's brats and none of Rahm's kids attended public schools. In addition, Jessie, Jessie Jr., and Obama all sent their kids to Private Schools. Who are these phonies trying to kid? Cops and Firefighters are not extremely religious, they send their kids to parochial schools because they want their kids to learn. The Democrats should be grateful to the Catholic and Lutheran schools systems, because if they shut down; the public schools would be overwhelmed. So keep treating the teachers like shit and see what you get Rahmbo, you little Ballerina POS.

The quote in the Sun Times has Rahm saying "don't leave my city"..... You mean after my family has been living in this city for over 100 years and having served the city as police, teachers, nurses and small business owners, we don't get to consider it our city, it's just Rahm's city that he is permitting us to live in.

Why wouldn't I move, I'm paying over $30,000 a year for education in catholic grade and high schools while my kids live within walking distance to the Agrilcultural high school in mount greenwood. Neighborhood kids can't get in there but we watch buses taking kids from outside the neighborhood back down to 47th street and eastbound to Halsted. I was told that the only alternative for my oldest (good student - but not straight A's) was Morgan Park or Bogan. Not happening....

Literally afraid to park my car in front of my home that DOR will find some reason to ticket it.

Have to travel to suburbs to save money on gas and food because of the extra taxes.

Neighbor did $1,000 damage on his explorer hitting a huge pothole on 111th street several months back.

Been calling on several large potholes in our alley since before Halloween.

Neighbor called the police about a suspicious car checking garages at about midnight (2 weeks ago), 1hr 20 minutes later a police car shows up and says they were just given the call and to please complain as they are the beat car but has spent the last 3 hours east of Vincennes dealing with calls.

The ambulance assigned to the mount greenwood fire house is constantly eastbound on 111 street heading towards Vincennes.
Last fall a neighbor needed an ambulance and the closest one came from 77th and Pulaski.

Vacant stores abound, we don't need anymore dollar stores, cheap cell phone stores, or mattress stores.
We had the opportunity to get a really nice Italian deli and restaurant in the community. Owner was spending a ton of money to fix up an old store front, but he got hit with so much city bullshit regarding zoning codes and added expenses that he dropped the project and opened up his business in Evergreen Park. Instead we got another Dunkin donuts owned by someone you can't understand and who does not employ one person from the community. Oh yes, city picked up the tab to get this business going.

Our elected officials are useless, it became very apparent in this last election when it came out that all their kids were given the freebie state sponsored scholarships.

I'm sure that these problems are not unique to my neighborhood but typical for all of us.

Sure, 2 or 3 yrs from now when these new fancy school programs get up and rolling, my kids still won't be able to get into them - because I'm not connected.

Keep your city Rahm, you and your chosen few win.
Can't enjoy downtown anymore, can't enjoy a beach, can't shop and dine on Michigan ave, can't even enjoy a nice Italian deli in my neighborhood.

I've had 4 nephews and nieces marry within the last 3 yrs, everyone were city kids as were their spouses.
All employed making a decent living.
Not one bought a home in the city, all living in Naperville and lemont area where the schools are decent.
They are thinking ahead and see no future here.
I can't blame them.
I want out. Not worth it anymore.

---

Please don't ruin my police department.

Please don't hire a superintendent from New Jersey.

Please don't treat my contract as if it were toilet paper

Please don't threaten me with the loss of 30 years of hard fought contract benefits

Please don't promote on the basis of clout

Please don't threaten to take my pension away

Please don't do these things

Sure, if your kid gets into Payton or North Side or Lane, it's all fine and good, but the top HS's only have 10% of the total population and that 10% is heavily weighted on income, so if you live in a decent area on the north side, your kid's not getting in unless they're at least top 5%. So, what if your kid is "only" in the 93/94th percentile?

You mean don't leave like your family left for the suburbs to get your education? I thought that 25% of the kids here were beyond hope. Why would decent parents want to keep their children penned up with them? Instead, they should stay here where it's more expensive and get speeding and red light tickets while they rush to a bad school to keep their children from getting a quality education where it's safe.

Rahm is a bigger idiot than Daley. And that's saying something.

Don't leave! Hey ram your kids are not attending the bullshit corrupt cps are they? lead by example faker! Who would want to put their children in the animal attack environment known as cps? You have made the good teachers retire and flee this corrupt city/state/county! You are such a phony rahmmy, please man up and resign take mccarthy with you! Later today you will read here at the only correct honest news source SCC,about the nato meeting this alst week, where the elite of police were at a power point and the things revealed. 1 thing the protestors/anarchists will number from 250,000-500,000, they are emboldened in that they think the G-8 was moved because of their activism, that is not the real real reason.

2) The real reason think the day before this was cancelled the countries had a meeting with Israels top leaders what do you think was said?

3) 82nd airborne in Fort Bragg on stand-by.

4) the group anonymous during the wto jammed some police communications but I am sure our systems with lewin and goldstein are "hacker proof" correct?

5) When they were taken to the top of the Sears/Willis tower the land around McCormick place is vast many ares for potential trouble.

6) The mayor says he will be closing the parks early, ok let's say you have 20,000 or more people and they say "we are not leaving" what do you do? arrest them all??

7) Many businesses will be CLOSE that goof lori healy keeps saying "we are open for business," ahh no honey they will not be,how will it look when dignitaries come downtown and the businesses are boarded up to protect their properties?

8) the superintendent says we have about 150,000 gang members is Chicagoland, perhaps underestimated, the big question is as you strip tact teams, and gun teams, and patrol officers from districts that are is raps constantly now what will the gangs do?

9) The city wants all STAR NUMBERS VERY Visible ON HELMETS, You have an older police force, and just what we need, the coppers retire next thing you know here comes the lawsuit taking away your home, pensions and bank accounts!

As urkel would say "Did I just say/do that?"

Ask Rahm where he sends his kids to school, I'll bet it's NOT in Chicago! He wants parents to send their kids to a substandard over-bureaucratic school system where the state basically babysits these kids 8 hrs/day 5x per week. The kids either don't want to learn, or cannot learn surrounded by a bunch of ghetto brats who only show up for the free government subsidized meals. This mayor is a real clown! Lead by example you lying snake- send your kids to the cps and let's see what college they get into when they graduate! He will never jeopardize his children's future of course, because he knows how messed up the school system really is. But he wants US to believe it is the best, Ha! Mayor= moron

How can the Mayor of this city even ask the middle class not to leave this city and keep thier children in public school.

And at the same time he sends his children to a private school?

This comes from a guy who grew up in the burbs and never knew what a Chicago neigborhood is made up of.

Answer:
He knows he is not the middle class of this city.
He does not have to work multiple jobs to pay the amount of taxes this city has justified on its citizens.
This is just a stepping stone to another polictical job he will want.

He never grew up in this City.
He never worked midnights in this city.
He never sat with his kids at Park District events.
He now trys to make more ways to collect revenue from the citizens (Video speeding in school zones)
HE IS AN OUTSIDER!

He keeps telling outright lies about the state of this city when he knows that many city departments are about to crumble.

There was a time when the middle class citizens of Chicago walked to the local grocery or meat market to shop. Now we drive outside of Cook County just to save a dime on everything from milk to gas.

Now this Mayor is pleading for us to stay in the city.

IT IS WAY TOO LATE FOR THE PLEAS!

If you look at the history of many famous cities that failed they all headed down the same road us middel class Chicagoans are on now.

What this plea really means is, The Mayor knows how bad things are going to turn his summer.

Is any media outlet going to give all the story of this Trayvon Martin incident? Anyone? Buehler?

Phleger wore a hoodie under his garmant today and a hoodie on a statue of Jesus complete with skittles and iced tea.

Any video surveillance? Any evidence tech photos of Zimmerman if he had any injuries? Any criminal record for Zimmerman or employment record for Zimmerman? Any witnesses? Is there a toxicology report on Trayvon? What was the temperature on the evening that he needed his hood up over his head? Is there a short cut home through the gated community?

Why is the POTUS getting involved in this one month later? Is this merely a distraction from $4.59 gallon of gasoline? Is he playing the race card with his upcoming election?

Seriously is there more this story than a bag of skittles and iced tea? Is there a non biased reporter who accept the challenge? John Kass are you reading?

Came on the job in the mid '70's, well qualified on the April 1975 test. Out there when Van Shaik and Bosak were killed on 115th St as well as when Fahey and O'Brien were killed on 80th St. and my good friend Marty Darcy was killed across the border in Evergreen Park. I worked Gangs and a was a Violent Crimes Detective out south. Worked for Burge. I was a good policeman- tact man / detective who like the rest of my generation never backed down and were ball-busters who got the job done.

Now, I've been retired for a couple of years, still have lawsuits pending and was just notified that a new one was just filed against myself and a half dozen other detectives from an incident in the late'90's.
Of those named, 2 are deceased and the rest are retired.

My advice to you younger officers, answer your calls, write your reports, keep an eye out for legitimate tax paying citizens / victims, back each other up and don't do nothing more.

It's not worth it. Every time I walked into the Corp. Counsel they keep talking about possible punitive damages .

I put 5 kids through catholic schools and the last is finishing up college.

I'm comfortable, but I am by no means rich.
Punitive damages would wipe me out. My wife only worked part time jobs with no real insurance or pension. I did my share of part time jobs working security to pay tuitions.

I'm not crying the poor mouth, but don't put yourself in this position. No, the lawsuits have nothing to do with robbing and stealing, but just locking up really bad - bad guys and now the courts, politicians and the press are making them out to be the victims.

My one retired friend just had his last lawsuit settled this year, the relief he felt that now he can feel that he is truly retired, but he knows one phone call from the corp counsel can change that feeling.

It's not worth it. Think about yourself and your family, don't jeopardize them because you want to be the "real police." The real police doesn't exist anymore, it's not your fault, it's just the reality of it all ....

Stay safe and God Bless all of you.....

To poster at 3/25 1:20:

From someone not a city worker but who lives in the city and spends every extra dime to send the kids to the Catholic schools. Be realistic. The few public schools that are "acceptable" are that way because enough good families send their kids there, and yes they're involved. But most are not acceptable, largely because a significant portion of the families are not strong families and don't care. So you want us to stick with those crappy schools while we try to make them better by joining the LSCs, and don't worry, we're already voting, I seriously doubt that Chico would have been any better, much as he would have been beholden to the FOP and other public unions. Speaking of public unions, the CTU is a huge part of the problem, and a lot of people here take shots at Rahm but one of the best things he's doing for the system is taking on that union.

So to get back to the point, you're talking about more of an investment and a sacrifice than most people are willing to make, i.e. hoping a school system turns around before the kids can gain the benefit of it. I don't have time to plant those seeds and watch them grow. Then when the kids hit high school, I am not going to play the little political lottery game where I'm on my knees blowing some high school principal for 20 years so I have shot at getting the kids into Payton. Anybody hear what is happening with the current 8th grade class? A lot of the kids who worked hard and scored well are getting screwed because "oh, there were lots of applicants," or "oh, lots of perfect scores." Whatever the f. I'm willing to bet the children of clout are landing on their feet, like they always do. So screw it, you can have the whole shit pile. My kids need an education now. And they need a good education. I'm lucky that I can pay for it and I'm going to keep doing that.
I am not going to make it my job to fix the broken public school system in this city.

Low crime + good education= possibilities of success
High crime + poor education = likely to fail
High crime + good education = success or failure 50%
Let's face it education is stressed by parents, but crime is an important issue here in this city, parents and citizens want safety in this city first, because education is dependent upon our safety,Hire a lot more police and you'll see this city turn around, but no one wants to live where they feel unsafe let alone study ,read a book look at an IPad or lap top,for fear of a bullet, walking to the library for, fear of gang activity, shame on you Rham for not really discovering what's important,or have you and the hell with us,government exists to help the people, yet by example your children are in private schools, think about those that cannot afford private schooling and are in crime ridden areas, money supplies much even knowledge which should be free for those seeking it!

Call Rahm's bluff. Everyone whose child is enrolled in a private school should sign their child(ren) up to attend public school this fall. I am not really suggesdting that you have them attend CPS schools just sign them up and watch the powers that be mess their pants trying to figure out what to do with the influx of additional students.

It only took forty or so years for the Board of Ed to build additional rooms onto the Sauganash and Edgebrook Schools and Wildwood school is still over crowded. Kids from these schools still excel but because of their zipcode they will probably not be able to attend one of the college prep high schools despite paying amongst the highest property taxes in the city.

Is it just me or has it crossed anyone elses mind reading Black Sockets words that it reads just like the bullshit Barney Frank gave the American people right before Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac blew up??

Rham is really spoutin' it.

Was Jay Levine on his knees behind the podium??

The Left and Dems are fond of making comparisons to Hitler and right-minded Americans.

I'm going to make a comparison to Nazi Germany in the 1930's and Chicago today.

During the early ascendence of Hitler, there were many in Germany who saw Hitler and his crew of Brown Shirts & sociopathic leaders were putting Germany on a trajectory of Doom.

The affluent and astute got out. Many left with absolutely nothing but the meager clothes on their back. Others for love of Mother Germany stayed ignoring the increasing signals that the homeland was circling the drain.

This is where Chicagoians & Illinoisians are today.

Our city and state is; and has been, controlled by sociopathic kleptocrats that have doomed Chicago & Illinois.

Many Chicagoians have gone, more are leaving and others will stay.

There is interesting U.S. History of a Town called Athens, TN and The Battle of Athens, TN (Google it.Theres a good Harpers article on it from 1946)

It is not a story of a Civil War battle. It's the story of salt-of-the-earth American's comming back from WWII and taking back there small town from forebearers wired like Daley, Madigan, Alvarez, Quinn, Ryan, Emanuel, Burke, et.al.

Could the Right-minded people of Chicago & Illinois take back this city and state as those good citizens of Athens, TN did over 50 years ago?

I'm afraid not. Like Germany in 1939, it's too far gone given Chicago voter turn-out and the results of the elections.

One more thing, in the words of Congressman Joe Wilson, "You Lie Mayor."

Not a cop

3/25/2012 01:22:00 AM

============================

Yes!!

Why are Chicago gas prices almost one dollar more than the national average? Come on a dollar more!!

The nat'l avg is like $3.86/gallon and Chicago is closing in on $4.70 already.

Are we to believe that Chicago has a shortage of gasoline that demands this higher price? If it's a distribution problem why isn't it fixed. The rest of the nation doesn't have this problem and they're paying $3.86/gallon.

This should not be tolerated. I don't know if it's taxes or what but it needs to change.

CPS can double IB programs, even triple, but the reality is that the students are not even close to being prepared to take those classes. Their test scores and reading scores are too low.

The only true score are the ACT scores. That will give you a better idea of where these students rank. The teachers are forced to give inflated grades to these unprepared and lazy students.

The system as whole just coddles these individuals and their parents. They are being trained to be coddled and have no respect for authority. Hence when you encounter them on the wildings and etc. they expect the police to also coddle them and put up with their garbage.

My daughter busted her butt to get straight A's, score in the 99%percentile in the state testing and nailed down a perfect score on the entrance exam to get into Walter Payton. That's what it takes to get into the school if you're white.

Move forward to the first quarter and guess what??? All the white kids got in with kick ass grades and hard work, but wait, west side sista and pilsen señor sit in the same class and are fucking anchors holding the class down. These morons from the ghetto don't know the difference between a verb and an adjective.

Maybe Rahm's kids are not smart enough to make it in the Chicago Public School System and that is why they are in private school. Schools like Whitney Young that only accept the top 10%.

As for many other schools, the kids can't read and neither can teacher, most fail the skills test they administered to get qualified teachers, so don't cry for the teachers, the students are the ones suffering.

As a CPS teacher, the mayor's comments seem disingenuous. Much like the CPD, the public schools are under-staffed and under-funded. Yet those in supervisory positions expect miracles when it comes to tests and skills, while giving teachers the bare minimum of support. I am fortunate to teach at a neighborhood school with many honest, talented, and hard-working people who show up & do a great job. Still, we're about to get a shitty contract and the mayor wouldn't think to send his kids to his neighborhood school. Emanuel and his ilk will be the first to criticize us and then wonder why morale is so low and test scores aren't higher.

WHO DOES HE THINK HE'S BS'ING??!!!!

If I didn't need to live in the City I wouldn't.....

I was born and raised on the Southside and have always lived in the city as an adult in different areas (north and south) even prior to my employment with the City. However, since working for the City my eyes have been opened even more to the corruption, BS politics and gross ineffiency and mismanagement of our city all in the name of politics (lining ones pockets while screwing over the honest taxpayers).

Public school wise there is NOTHING on the Southside as far as high schools are concerned. Lindblom is a magnet school but face it unless you're black if you go there you're gonna get your ass kicked. The AG school is an option if you have sons but not daughters. Plus, there's a LOT of ghetto kids there. No thanks. EVERY other HS there SUCKS BIG TIME!! Over crowding, half the kids unable to speak English, gangs, kids who don't want to learn and parents who don't care if their spawn learn or not, etc.

Why would any parent in their right mind want to send their kids to CPS for secondary school?

Yes, there are some wonderful magnet schools up north (Lane, Payton, Northside, Von Steuben, etc) BUT unless your kid is gifted and/or politically connected, the chance of them getting in is slim at best.

Catholic or private schools are the only option and at a heavy price tag. $10K-$12K/year to start per child.

Our property taxes fund CPS yet our kids don't benefit from it (most of us). It pays for the above mentioned.

The inmates are running the asylum boys and girls. It just keeps getting worse and worse here.

Can't wait til my time to pull the pin is here.............

I now have decent law abiding neighbors whose kids work & behave, clean streets & no graffiti. If I want to see shit Rham I turn on WGN & there you are.

My taxes are less than $2000 yearly on a 3600 sf home on 2 acres, just like crook, lake & DuPage counties.

Even IF Rahm could turn the schools around, that would mean exporting at least 40% of the population of the city (the usual suspects who cause the problems). And even IF he could pull that off, what would this "high quality" education cost? It already costs a shit-ton of money in taxes, and you can't even send your kids there. I can't wait to here this (then move anyway).

With the alcohol flowing, some white kids started mother--f*%king a couple of his friends from over by Charles St. They left, came back with some of their friends, and the brawls were on. I am ashamed to say that 022 made no arrests. Completely inappropriate, you have to lock up people in this situation to send the message, that's how the South Side Parade got out of hand--by cutting people breaks. They got bold. The kids there get bold as the weather warms up. Too many city workers kids involved, too many officers and supervisors afraid to step on someone's toes...TOO BAD!! You cause problems, you gotta go.

The limit access to top-flight educational opportunities has been a problem for quite a while.

Several years ago LKR appointed an City Deputy of Education who burned her butt when she said "none of the Chicago Schools are good enough for my kids."

The problem with elite high schools (Whitney Young, Peyton, North Side Prep) is that there are too few of them and the entry spots are limited...more than you think.

Whitney Young has about 450 slots for incoming freshmen. About 100 come from their 8th grade class. But those spots are allocated to certain groups. Until recently 150 spots 100 spots each were for white, black, hispanic and asian. Since they quota anymore, they now go by economic tracts.

If your kid is white and you live on the far north bid dollar side of town, your kid HAS to be perfect to get in.

On the southwest side, at least 4 brand new palace-like high schools have built for the hispanics.

Illinois will never allow a voucher system.. And the nit-wit pols will use the Florida incident to stop CCW in Illinois.

PARENTS READ THIS BESTSELLER**** How to make your kid an unemployed, asshole, loser for life in one easy step. The first time the cops bring your kid home for some dumbass thing he/she did, glare at the cops disbelievingly because you're aware the cops have spent years planning this set-up of your stupid Jethro Bodine numbskull kid. When your spawn of satan continues to interupt the conversation the police are attempting to have with you, by denying his actions and slurringly accusing the officers of "lying on him", throw your hand up in a stop-in-the-name-of-love kind of way right in coppers faces (while keeping the other on your hip if female)and assure your soon to be lifetime roommate you believe him, go outside, don't worry, you'll handle this. Let the cops know that you know your son better than THEY do. Perhaps they couldn't catch the kid they were really after and accidently grabbed his kid. You know this happens because you work in a district/unit where real crime occurs. There must be some mistake, you'd know if your kid was screwing off and for the record he wouldn't bring the coppers kids home, what's the department coming to. The cops leave and decide to just dump the weed knowing you're already going to bash the shit out of them on SCC and in the lunchroom at court where you have a big case on a dime bag drop case but you'll need plenty of those because you have just guaranteed yourself a partner for LIFE! That kid is never leaving. No one will hire him because he is an immature asswipe who doesn't take responsibility for his own actions, he'll have no friends because he's a mooch. You will never have a date again (your wife will leave of course)when you could have avoided ALL of this by opening your eyes and asking yourself one simple question. Why the hell would cops, who are going to get paid the same amount of money whether they bring my kid home or not, going to bring my kid home? He must have annoyed the FUCK out of someone or they are trying to help ME with an early warning. You are welcome. Beat that kids ass. Give him a future.

Check cost of Ignatius and Loyola; attendance will soon inch to $15,000/kid/year. Scholastica is closing, St Ben's and Gordon Tech have very low enrollments and are financially vulnerable too.

Getting into Ignatius and Loyola is getting harder every year. A number of white-collar Chicago 8th grade kids from Sacred Heart and Francis Xavier were denied enrollment this year, compelling there parents to go to DeLaSalle and Brother Rice to beg for admission. Who thought the day would come that a Lincoln Park parent would want DeLaSalle for their kid?

Spoke to parents w/twins: one at Northside Prep, other at Ignatius, smarter one supposedly at Northside Prep. They think that Ignatius is offering the superior education, and that twin at Northside Prep doesn't have much homework, has less challenging curriculum, and weaker teachers. What gives?

Rahms' kids go to Lab School; he's no credibility in this discussion regarding white middle-class and upper-middle-class parents' kids' school choices. Some of these parents speak bravely (and naively) about how great their CPS public school is (or will be), but the enthusiasm ends when spectre of high school appears. Having several credible CPS HSs doesn't even begin to address the magnitude of the educational problem here in Chicago. Go look at the MLS photos for "white-collar/middle-class" housing in Chicago and you'll see photo after photo of baby cribs, toddler beds, and young kid rooms, and you know each listing is another story of parents giving up on Chicago and desiring to move to suburbs. Problem is the real estate resale market here in Chicago is stagnant, and many of those parents are stuck for the next several years if they're unwilling to sell their homes at seriously discounted prices to leave town.

1. Taxes are higher in Cook County / Chicago.

2. I'm not sure if it's just Cook County, the entire Chicago metro area or maybe the entire state, but supposedly we burn some "special" mixture of gasoline that requires an additive or additional refining or something to reduce pollution.

Tribute Illuminates Rahm Emanuel's Upbringing

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s parents receive award for values they instilled in their children.

By Steve Sadin

October 31, 2011

"When the Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago (BJE) decided to give an award for instilling values in children at home, it did not have to think long about who the first recipients should be.

"Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel gave his parents, Dr. Benjamin and Marsha Emanuel of Wilmette, the organization’s first ever L’dor V’dor Award feting the educational efforts of parents at home at the Northbrook-based organization's annual honors event Sunday in Wheeling.

"Emanuel first learned political, social and family values at his parents’ dinner table growing up in Wilmette..."

"[Marsha Emanuel] helped bring an open housing policy to Chicago while working with the Congress of Racial Equality..."

Taxes on Emanuel home?

"According to the Cook County Assessor’s website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman and likely new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, doesn’t exist. While the address of 4228 North Hermitage is listed as Emanuel’s residence on the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website, there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home…

"Why wouldn’t 4228 North Hermitage property owners Rahm Emanuel and wife Amy Rule not pay property taxes?

"One reason may be because Emanuel and Rule declared their 4228 North Hermitage home as the office location for their non-profit foundation appropriately called the “Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation”. As a non-profit headquarters, they may consider their home as exempt from paying taxes."

"The Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Trust was formed in 2002, when the Chicago lawmaker was first elected. The former Clinton White House aide and his wife, Amy Rule, are its only donors.

"Apparently the old owners were paying about $6800 a year in property taxes..."

No such thing as free, dumbass. Take ECON101 and learn how money works. Free just means someone else worked hard to pay for it, so you don't have to. You want opportunity? Fucking work for it. It practically bangs on your door in America if the goddam government would just get out of the way!

Yeah right, please don't leave, just wait for our schools to get better, that's why I spent big big money on 3 boys for 12 years sending them to private schools because our school system SUCKS, but that;s Ok with the McMahon family who sold millions and millions of dollars worth of milk to the Chicago Public Schools. I only wish I had the clout to sell Kool Aid to the westside ghetto schools, boy then I could afford to send my boys anywhere.

Read your post, and we heard the same thing re FXW and Sacred Heart kids not making the cut at Ignatius and the better public schools. We also know Ignatius families who send one kid there, give pledge money, and then see younger sibs not get in or wait-listed.

So here's my question -- Why isn't Rahm's move to expand the IB program a good idea, maybe among the best that have been offered around here in a while? If there just aren't enough spaces for the best kids, then wouldn't he be creating more? Wouldn't that be better for good families in the long run?

Agree with you on North Side prep. Doesn't surprise me at all to hear that Ignatius is more rigorous. Ignatius is basically a very elite prep school for folks with lots of money, and probably the least Catholic of the Catholic high schools. Parents are paying top dollar (second perhaps to Latin, Parker, etc.) for education and are getting what they are paying for. But there are some who would send their kids to CPS magnet schools and avoid the tuition if they could get their kids in there. That is why I say let's create more of those spots; better all around for all of us.

I know, I said something nice about Rahm.

"As long as unions are strong..."

No worries. Rahm "Friend of Labor" Emanuel & Co. are doing all they can to destroy the unions.

While the unions continue to support him.

As much as I hate defending him, he'd catch twice the hell if his kids took spaces at Northside College Prep. There are a dozen or so really good public elementary schools in the city, but if your kid doesn't get into one of them, the drop-off is substantial.

Fuck you Rahm! I have to live in this shithole for 2 more years, my kids are now in an excellent Catholic school OUTSIDE the city! 15 kids per class, no metal detectors, no pissed off teachers, no baggy pants and gold grills! Fuck you and fuck this city and the Dream Act!
I'm sick and tired of paying for public schools, via my taxes so some ILLEGAL can devour the system of its resources! Public schools have been shit since they removed prayer and pledge of allegiance!
I refuse to send my kids to a tax funded system that advocates/teaches ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE!
