We Can Fix That

A little bond-o, some paint, you'll barely see the scratches:

  • Three people were hospitalized including two Chicago Police officers after their wagon collided with a civilian vehicle Tuesday night in the Gresham neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The officers were inside the police wagon when it crashed into another vehicle at 9:50 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Halsted Street, said [...] a police spokesman citing preliminary information.

No prisoners were in the wagon, which flipped and was left lying on its side....
Not to be picky, but judging by the picture, the other vehicle crashed into the wagon and rolled it.

Officers are hospitalized, but should be okay.

Reminds me of Beat 1971 turning a corner at Campbell and Belmont to get someone to court and the rear box just came off and rolled across the street, prisoner inside. They saved money on maintenance.

As big as that thing is, it had to be a powerful impact or the workmanship was shoddy. Thank God the officers are still with us. Get well soon. The city dodged a bullet (no pun intended), if there were "occupants" in the back the lawsuits would already be filed.

A previous post sais that 019 has three tac secretaries. Can anyone verify this and basically lets put the commander of 019 on the carpet. We need officers on the street and not inside anymore. It has gotten to a point where manpower is critical and for this to be happening its a seious issue. Where is the unit F.O.P. rep in 019? They should have two reps since the districts combined!

Ah, puh-leez. Manpower shortages don't matter to the supe.

McWhatever just brought another connected female down to HQ from a/3. Maybe it just wasn't supposed to be NOTICED, amidst all the chaos of the merge?

The last time she was assigned to HQ, she described her job as 'party planner'. (Not paraphrasing. She said her job was party planner.) She'll surely be helpful down there in this time of belt-tightening and shared sacrifice.

Garry, if you really mean all that propaganda you spew to the media about being so shorthanded and pushing every sworn member out of HQ and out on the street, prove it. Send this person back to the area.

Or, maybe the media can call your bluff publicly.

019 has 3 tact secretaries, all the officers and civs from both 023 and 019 in the office which totals 16 all the caps officers from both districts also. With the merge they killed 3 beats and on 20 mar 1st watch had 3 cars down due to a manpower shortage thats a total of 6 beats down. I'm glad I dont live there. Both districts were short before the move and still short. There was zero gain here from all this shit.

I know of two tact secretaries and two sets of front office people in 019. None of those positions are in the contract, no matter how many unit reps a unit has. Now what would the unit rep do if he/she needs to ask a favor for a PO of the commander after they fucked with his staff?

Usual MOA is leave his protected people alone and expect a favor once in a while when a PO has issues that require another watch, assignment etc.

It is up to the area Deputy Chief to make sure a commander is not keeping people off the street unnecessarily.

Not to worry, there are gobs of PO's now in the new and improved 019. I get the feeling some will go out on long patrol to places West and South.

Hey, 019 Community Policing still has the male relative (M.K.) of former Alderman Ted Matlak installing car seats for yuppies and stuffing stuffed animals or whatever it is that he does. Another $100,000 a year in salary and benefits being stolen.

So when McCarthy says he is putting more officers on the street he is talking about you, not those related to former aldermen or those with a phone call.

The Polish woman who assists the assistant Tact Secretary came to old 019 with Commander Kenney and went straight in to the tact office to do God knows what.

Empty out the office slugs to only what is needed and you get another 8 or so officers to supposedly work the streets. However they are no damn good so they would likely go find a corner to hide in if forced out of their do nothing office jobs.

And no one does anything about it. Just let you or me come in with no parkers, movers or contact cards and we get a talking to goddamit,

3/22/2012 03:19:0 Because both districts were already short before the move. We didnt get any manpower the old 019 is still up and running with the desk and lockup. All the inside people from both districts are still inside. Boths caps from 019 and 023 are still inside we still cover the same amount of land as 2 districts. This is a fact that every night there are at least 2 cars down and has been going on for years. Stay safe all you 1st watch people

You know of two well you better look a little harder 1 of them is disguising herself as an abandoned building officer. She never leaves the station other than to have a smoke, which is about every 15 min. She has about 6 yrs on and has been taking care of all 6. Time for the commander to man up and clean the office, caps and the three (3) tact secretaries up

For all that make comments about POs that are " do nothings" please look around you and see the real people that are inside doing nothing. Understandable if you have a valid reason, but an able body should not be inside doing clerical work. Legit Light duty Officers are plentiful for those assignments.
