Locals Chase Down Thief

Quite frankly, we're surprised this isn't occurring more often - the citizens helping chase down robbers we mean:
  • A man who grabbed a $7,000 camera from a California tourist in the Gold Coast was chased down by the tourist and two construction workers and caught by security guards and police, authorities said.

Allen McCrone, 26, of the first block of Boxwood Court in Springdale, Ohio, remains in Cook County Jail today, charged with robbery, police said. A judge Saturday set bail for McCrone at $60,000 and he is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing on Friday, according to Cook County Jail records.

So a tourist from California comes all the way to town to be robbed by a jagoff from Ohio on what is arguably the best known street (and tourist destination) in Chicago. Hopefully, the impression made on the tourist is the quick actions of the construction workers and not the fact that he got mugged here.

Evidently, the Wonders of CompStat haven't reached the ears of Ohio's underworld, but the word of easy pickings may have.

About a year ago something similar happened but it didn't make the papers.

Some guy stole a car and a citizen or it may have been the owner actually persued the thief by running after 'em.

After a block or two, the theif turns the car Eastbound on Maple where he's stopped in traffic right by Dublin's. The persuer with the help of some patrons exiting Dublin's drag the thief from the car where upon a few good shots of public justice were laid before the cavalry arrived.

Ahhhhh the Central Detectives.

We had this happen a few times when it was Area 1. Stellar performers.
It stoppped when we informed the Detectives that that was misconduct and A CR number would be initiated. I quite honestly think they thought there was nothing wrong and they were doing the right thing.

To the Officer from 018, those dic's have been doing that for years. I remember one dic asking a victim if she was prepared for the day when the offender in her robbery shows up at her door and tries to hurt her and her children when he bonds out. She didn't know what to say. When he told her to never answer her door without a knife in her hand she got up and walked out of the station. This occurred in 1983,1984 or so btw.

This fine Ohio thug heard how legit the courts are here in Crook County. He then decided to make the drive here and spotted a tourist with a nice $7,000 camera declare the camera his own. If a tourist robs a tourist does that even count??

Why did they need a $7,000 pro camera? A $250 iPhone takes perfectly fine snapshots. Tourists needed to be cited for negligence. The guy who snatched it can't be blamed when temptation is put in front of him. He was a good boy and don't have nothing to do with no gangs. He has been working o his GED for 6 years now and is only a year or two away. Damn tourists, getting our crime stats all inflated and shit. Probably won't show up in court the 38 times they he will be needed for a conviction in Cook County. All that to get the offender probation and time served. Better to simply say he was speeding in a car and give him a red light camera ticket.

This obvious "theft of lost or misplaced" property will be down graded CompStaffel style to Non Criminal Lost Property when victim fails to show up in Court.
Crime continues on the downfall.

We all know that these thugs PROFILE the tourist types in 018 or 001 They know if they are caught the chances are great the charges will not be approved and they get a free pass.

Well the mayor says he wants people from all over the world to come here.

See, yeah...they will come here and rob people and the mayor will put them in an Illinois prison -- run by a private corporation -- then charge the taxpayers for doing it!

That's a crisis that we can use!

In the confusion of multiple people grabbing this lifetime oxygen thief, someone should've thumbed his eye, or if wearing baggies, reached in and ripped off his sack. Just wipe off the goo when you're done and don't admit to it. Everything possible needs to be done to deter animals from reoffending and since the judicial system has failed. Thugs are fair game to law-abiding citizens.

As a citizen this is an outrage that a Detective would try and deter someone from making a felony report. But as someone who went through the system as a victim. I understand. First the refusal to charge legitimate felonies, instead just misdemenors, multiple court appearances, each suspect wanting separate trials and then jury trials etc...For what was an open and shut case. After four appearances for what would've wound up as probably just probation from watching other cases, I just gave up, on the judicial system that is
....Rule number one, ACT ALONE tell NOBODY, EVER. Don't say cutesie innuendos at the bar. Plan. Make it quick and decisive. Know the risks. Do it. Shut your mouth. Repeat keep your mouth SHUT. Conscience may bother you on occasion and give you doubt about your actions. Ignore it, it'll pass. Remember you did civilization a solid.
When the system is so broken as to make the judicial system a joke, you have a right as a citizen to act.

Almost sounds like the criminals are coming to Illinois since they know this is the only state without concealed carry and any criminal acts are relatively risk free since no one is legally packing.
