Those are the new proto type blue light cameras the department has on back order. When they see a crime being commited they fly to the offenders location, surround him and then blow up!

A lot of them are very topical and your readers and all cops would find them hilarious. I've often wanted to post them in the comments but its your blog so I didn't. Just an idea. You rule SCC.
......them are the UFO's that crashed in Hegewisch last night at Wolf Lake! What a scene with all the helicopters and plainclothes police in the area around the lake.

Our pension wasn't broken, we have been robbed. By Daley and Co.
I have one of those with a small RF camera on it,comes in handy.
