Police Memorial Week

In all the hubbub of NATO, the Police Memorial Week got little coverage.

But in Washington DC, our retirees stepped up to guarantee a Chicago presence at the Memorial. Click over to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation website, then click on the "Retirees" button at the top of the page. There's a good article there and a slide show.

A special thanks to everyone who was able to go and represent our Department's fallen during the NATO event. Hopefully next year we return with a record breaking turnout.

New York State Trooper Ammanda Anna killed when her Chevy Tahoe left the roadway, ( my sympathy to the family and NYSP). Is this an indication that there really is a problem with Tahoe lug nuts? Let's get an impartial investigation into Tahoe's. In the mean time, check your tires often boys and girls because there really might be a problem here! Oh, and report the missing and loose lug nuts, I say to FOP for a citywide count!

Thank you to all the officers and their families that have lost their lives. You will never be forgotten.

Retired guy here who was in Washington for the first time.
I wish I had went years ago. If you haven't been there yet go it is amazing what our presence means to the families. I went to the honor guard competition and was impressed by the number of different agencies who talked about Chicagos honor guard and what their performances meant to them and how they have changed the nature of this event. Chicago didn't participate this year but there were some there. How come our news stations don't pick up on what they do ? I got the sense they are nationally known. See you there next year.

This was my first trip to the Memorial also. It was a moving experience for me as it was for many of the other first year attendees who were retired. I will be going again. It should be something to see with an additional 500 guys/gals from Chicago. Thou I and my friends will be staying at a different hotel far away from the active duty personnel.

The friendships that have developed between the CPD and NYPD and With the CPD and LAPD are something to be proud of.

I was one of those who made the trip to Springfield last fall also to fight for our pension rights. The shame this year while the rank and file had their days off canceled for NATO and the vocal retirees were in Washington the Mayor had his lobbyists in Springfield trying to pull an end around. After NATO was over and the Mayor was painted into a corner having to praise the CPD his lobbyists were still in Springfield try to screw us.

Just remember when this mayor lips are moving, just like shortshanks, he is lying.

I had the luxury of having no adult responsibilities so I could leave town at the last minute without having to make arrangements for child care or other considerations. By the time the dept. got around to letting us know we could use time off that week it was too late for most active members to make plans. I did not know up until the last minute if my time off would be approved but booked a flight and decided to chance it. It was great to see all the retirees and some old friends. Hope to make it again next year and see the numbers from Chicago like we have had in the past.
