Ex-Politicians Arrested

  • Former Cook County Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno and ex-Chicago Ald. Ambrosio Medrano have been charged with bribery, federal officials said today.

Moreno, who was first elected to the County Board in 1994 but lost re-election in 2010, was charged with allegedly taking a $5,000 payoff in connection with a waste transfer station in Cicero. He was also linked to a bribe scheme involving the sale of bandages to Stroger Hospital and other public hospitals, authorities alleged.

Medrano, who was convicted of bribery as an alderman in the 1990s, was charged with offering a bribe to an undercover informant while working as a staff member for Moreno.
So do we get to count Medrano twice in the "convicted aldercreatures" column?

Arresting these guys is like a copper giving a ticket to Joe Blow for jaywalking. Talk about double standards.

TWICE? The stupid asshole gets pinched by the Fed TWICE! Serves him right. I bet they never catch him a third time. They'd never figure he'd be dumb enough to try it again. Oh yeah.

If Medrano is convicted on these charges, he is going to be doing some serious federal time. Guess that is why the Feds consider him a flight risk. I wonder where he would flee to? j/k

Today 6/29 is Pat Fitzgerald's final day as U.S.Attorney for Chicago.
So Anita Alvarez will be given the job and will promptly give Medrano and Moreno probation, after all, they are her local "homeboys".

If you're going to comment at least know what you're talking about. The former U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was nominated by former U.S. senator Peter Fitzgerald and appointed by George W. Bush.

Arrest these petty mopes and let Jesse Jr. walk! The Feds set the standard. They nailed Blago for selling the Senate Seat, but they let whomever was buying slide including everybody that was helping them, and that probably would have been our current Mayor and the Congressman in hiding. The Feds are full of shit.

With the amount of corruption in this city, the best they can do is someone taking a $5000 bribe? That amount is turned down numerous times on a daily basis in this town because its not enough. The feds are kind of like a tac team. They spend all day locking up one baggers instead of locking up the guys that run the tip or supply the packs.

Hey Scc,

Your not giving the attention that is due! Attorney General E. Holder was held in contempt yesterday for not handing over documents related to Fast and Furious.

Seems to me like the Chief Law Enforcement Officer doesn’t like to be investigated. Talk about an office that should be transparent. More like opaque.

And furthermore who does he think he is not to turn over documents specifically requested by Congress?

As I recall, Moreno was caught with some white powder in small container that was in his brief case while going through security at 26 Cal. The white powder tested negative. LOL Medrano was corrupt when he was an alderman, making sure the nightclubs in 010 violated just about every liquor law on the books and got away with it.

Is this the quality of Republican police officers today? They don't even know that the US Attorney is a Republican, nominated by a Republican US Senator and appointed by a Republican President?

Barry Goldwater was a Republican running for president in 1964. Good man, decent, honest and spoke his mind. He would be considered a liberal today because he knew how to compromise to get things done for the good of the country.

He said about Vietnam that he wasn't sure we should even be in that country but if we were going in we should do so with overwhelming force from the beginning and get the thing done and get then get out.

Sound familiar? General Shinsecki, Chief of Staff of the US Army said about the same thing about Iraq in early 2003. For his honesty and correctness he was dumped by G.W. Bush for not going along with the prevailing theory of Chaney, Wolfowitz etc. of small, nimble and quick. Said theory proved to be wrong and many US Soldiers died as a result when the country went up for grabs and we didn't have enough people to send.

Medrano kept his mouth shut when he was convicted. While he was in the federal care, his wife was given a lucretive city job. I thought Medrano was given a union jo9b at McCormick Place when he got out as a payoff ? The corruption that was put in place by the Daley family will take a generation to go away, at least. It reaches through every city and county department to include the police and fire departments, a fact that the press never mentions. The phony merit system, the captain promotions, etc.
