Let's Build an Airport!

Illinois is broke, Quinn is about to call a special session to gut pensions across the state, and you know Rahm is just waiting to follow his lead. So why would anyone want to spend extra money?
  • Susan Shea has a message to all the opponents and pessimists who don’t think the South Suburban Airport ever will be built near Peotone.

“To the naysayers, this is it. The FAA would not tell us this is the preferred place. This is where it’s going to be,” Shea said. “... It’s going to be such an economic engine for the community out there, for the state. It is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when. It’s not a matter anymore of if.”

The airport project is under Shea’s watch as director of the aeronautics division for the Illinois Department of Transportation. The project was among several infrastructure topics discussed Friday during a meeting of the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corp. at Glenwoodie Golf Course in Glenwood.

Construction of the airport would take three years, but she declined to say when it may begin.

"Director of Aeronautics Division of the Illinois Department of Aviation?" That's a hell of a business card. And she's sure that she is going to get a few billion dollars from a state that's already something like $80 billion in the hole in order to fund an airport that every major carrier has said they don't want and have no plans to use.

But evidently, certain Illinois politicos need the donations from construction companies and connected contractors would provide.

That's Jessie Jr's Airport, or was. Now that he is in the looney house and dead in the water, another politico, or in this case, politica, is gonna take his place. They still own plenty of land out there, so the family will still get over. Does it ever end???

Another reason JJJ is depressed. He bought up all that land and now the airport may not happen. I would vote for Gary anyway. I would be a boon to the south side of Chicago.

Lot's of connected black investors bought land down there when the first mention of a Peotone airport popped up. Jesse and JJJr. and several others are sitting with acres of land that they waaay overpaid for and don't want to take a beating on if no construction begins. They want the state to bail em out and make them billionaires with taxpayer cash.

F*ck em all. Let em go bankrupt. We don't owe them shit!

A very, very, desperate attempt to create hope for jobs and prosperity to the unemployed in time for the re-election.

Just like Rahm creating so-called jobs in Chicago nonsense.

Motorola MOVES jobs to Chicago and the political apparatus pushes the propaganda that they have just created 2,000 new opportunities/jobs.

THEY ARE JOB TRANSFERS PEOPLE!

The media has been pushing recently that there has been no financial incentives to these companies to move here...who's buying that? Anyone? Anyone? Bueler?

Motorola was bought out by Google and Google is near river west with about 500 employees. What kind of incentives are Google running under to stay in the City?

Do you know what happens when companies like this merge or are bought out? They consolidate and do mass layoffs.

Motorola moving closer to the Google building will aid in this layoff and consolidation process just you watch and see. Most likely holding off until after Nov.

Can Motorola do layoffs? Only a limited number in order to keep their $100 million dollar tax breaks.

However what's stopping Google from laying off Google employees or shuffling Google employees over to the Motorola division so that they can say Motorola has kept the number of employees that it agreed to...oh yeah what's that...oh don't look over there look over here..lol

These jackazzes don't know what's going to happen tomorrow and yet we hear "we are moving to Chicago next year and by 2015 we will add 300 additional people to our workforce.." blah, blah, blah.

Who's gonna be fact checking them in 2015 when the headlines come out that "we did not meet our expectations -- plans canceled. Sorry.

Nevertheless, have you noticed the increase number of these Chicago jobs created stories? Often with the projected job creation dates being dropped from the headlines?

What I mean is this. Company XZ is moving to Chicago and will add 10,000 jobs. Ha..down in the fine print you find that they arrive at the number by estimating growth and using some magic formula that is unpublished so you cant check the math and then the 10,000 so-called jobs are over the next ten years or more and not tomorrow as the headlines imply. You don't know if you're gonna get the 10,000 jobs in year one or in year ten or spread out 1,000 per year for ten years. There's no accountability to any of this. It's all speculation

This is the same fantasy b.s. as the Mayor talking about community colleges matching up with corporations to provide the training for open positions corporations are unable to find the skilled workers for.

Hey, if you cant find skilled workers it's because your pay and benefits suck. If corporation truly need to fill these alleged positions you do internal on the job skill training.

There's no shortage of skilled workers and there's no shortage of this political propaganda trying to create hope for the future for thee politicians own political gain.

It's all election hype to make you feel like things are not so bad and if we just give the same leaders four more years everything is gonna be fine. OH look... see..we are just about to turn the corner Motorola moved from the burbs to Chicago ..ha...ha...haaa.

Gimme a break.

Myb the new Peotone airport will be dedicated and named after the Honorable Jesse Jackson Jr.

He'll have already been found not guilty but mentally ill by then......

I wonder if JJ Jr's little white bimbo has visited him in the loony bin yet?

Since Chicago city workers must reside in the city, why does Alderman Sandy Jackson live in Washington DC ?

The government did a study yrs. ago. Many don't want that airport. Travellers said they would not travel there. It was stated that a smarter move would be to build up Gary , In. Airport.

There is also that question of whom has bought up alot of that property where that airport may be built. Rumors circulated Jackson and many other politicians as well. Could this be why Jr. was pushing so hard for it. Someone needs to do some digging. Where are our famous reporters and media on this one? Useless

There ain't no money!

That Peotone airport is too far from downtown Chicago! About 50 miles away!

O'hare Airport is half that distance and getting to O'hare Airport SUCKS on the Kennedy x-way most days!

There is no way I'm going to drive 50 miles to an airport to get on a puddle jumper! Its cheaper and less hassle to drive to the next city especially if it is less than 500 miles!

Besides I like Southwest Airlines right here at Midway Airport, only 8 miles from downtown Chicago!

These Politicians are crooks and wasting money! More wasted money,UGH!!

Can you say another empty Mid-America Airport near St. Louis!

What happened to "we all have to share in the sacrifice?" State is broke and they want to build an airport?

This will be a temporary fix at most, bringing jobs in for the duration. But if no carrier is willing to move there.............

This will be Quinn's legacy. It will be the biggest boondoggle in Illinois history.

Not much different than Dirty Dick Daley's O'Hare folly;

More runways, fewer flights.

Now Emanuel continues this money waster and insists that it's not costing taxpayers much, because the airlines are footing the bill.

The airlines that will pass that cost onto fliers-you & I.

Anything to get a food license. I had a gig that had me travelling 2 weeks of every month. For the life of me I cannot see how a regular family can afford airport food. You pay extra for cups, straws, ice. All of it. Beers are 9 bucks, burgers are 12. I was able to write my meals off but for the average traveler that is insane. You cannot even bring bottled water to the airport now.

Where is this money comming from??

while rockford and gary int'l lay dorment we have o'hare too close to midway. can the same be said about peotone being too close to midway?

remember the plane that overshot the runway and killed a kid on central av. a few years back? the plane had to land with a tail wind because o'hare dictates landings at midway. pilot err did not help either.

what is missing is the loss of revenue to the city in landing fees.

remember its about the children and temporary construction jobs and start an economic engine that will surly take away from where it already exists.

Mid America Airport is the proof that Peotone isn't needed or even wanted by anyone other than Jesse Jr and his buddies from Canada that stand to profit greatly.

Part of JJ Jr's problem is the Canadian Mounties and the FBI are onto his little scheme with a large company north of the border that is in cahoots to build Peotone.

Emanuel and United CEO Allied Against Peotone Airport

United Continental Holdings Inc. CEO Jeff Smisek said Thursday a third airport in Chicago would bring the city more harm than good. His remarks came just a few days before U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. plans to hold an event at the potental site of an airport in Peotone to show local support of the project.

The airport has been a recent point of contention between Jackson and Emanuel. Though the mayor endorsed Jackson in the recent primary elections, he doesn't support the airport plan. Instead, the mayor has proposed expanding O'Hare International airport, saying it would be like adding a third airport without actually building a new one.

Peotone: Jesse Jackson Jr. Needs To Stay The Hell Out Of Will County
By Michael Ciric, January 20, 2012

"...I am still 1000% opposed to a Peotone Airport! We have already squandered far too much money on this project. And for a state with as much money woes as Illinois has, well, they really should be looking at doing something else. After all, there is already a perfectly viable third airport option sitting right across the border in Gary, Indiana. So you see? This whole Peotone exercise has been absolutely asinine from the get go..."

"...So why don't we finally just call an ace an ace here? Peotone Airport is nothing more than a sham to benefit clout. And that is exactly why I suspect the wannabe Jesse Jackson Jr. wants his grubby little fingers into the money jar..."

7/31/2012 04:48:00 AM

I work out on the new runways at O'Hare, and a large part of the workday is spent waiting to get clearance to do work in areas close to live runways and on taxiways that are fully operational. Lots of electrical work and other types of trade work involved with building a new runway at an existing airport is done in close proximity to the terminals and hangars as well, and it takes at least twice as long to complete for that reason. The other thing is that we haven't always been working on the same runways the whole time. I am fairly sure that a much smaller brand new airport could in fact be built in three years in Peotone, and would create tons of work, but that isn't exactly a good enough reason for me to think that it should be done.

Just like the $100,000,000 given to Sears for them to stay here.
