McSuburbanite Says "Move Out"

Drawing on his vast experience as a resident of suburban New York, Mc(insert name here) demeans those bitching about the drive to work:
  • Interesting that McCarthy is on record at a comstatt meeting as saying that when was a captain in New York, he travelled nearly 2 hours each way to get to work. Consequently, if he did it, we can do it!!!!

But what nobody calls him on is that the 2 hour one way travel time was his choice.... New York police and fire do not have to live in the city. He lived in the burbs with his family.

I too would gladly travel 2 hours to 007 or 011 if it meant I could get my family away from this shithole.
Sounds like a good argument. Maybe McResidency can start the petition in Springfield.

Plus...that was 2 hours to be the Captain of the precinct - so he GOT TO MAKE HIS OWN HOURS. And got CAPTAINS PAY. Captain with 11 years on the job...I've got 9 and have never even been eligible for a FUCKONG PROMOTIONAL TEST.

Lift the residency requirement, it's unconstitutional! The city sucks so bad! I didn't think it would turn to shit as fast as it is, and I don't want to raise my kids here if I can help it. Gotta get rid of residency. We are the last major metropolitan department to have the requirement.

Anyone that willingly adds 50% to the time of a workday commuting to and from that job is an idiot. Maybe driving majority rural areas at highway speeds for the duration might be an exception. Maybe. Otherwise, I've got much more important things to do with my time. Like family and friends.

Only LOSERS live, breathe, eat, sleep, and shit any job, especially one as stressful as law enforcement. Now add in the fact that clueless, soulless motherfuckers will allow themselves to be belittled on a regular basis to keep their positions - like our current Gold Star Bosshole roster - and it really makes you scratch your head. No thanks. I'll push this beat car until the day I drop my papers and retain my manhood in the process. I'll answer to no one other than the Big Guy upstairs.

You go drive 2 hours each way, McMileage. I'll be home in 20 minutes with the worst of traffic, enjoying my family. Something you can't routinely do when yours is 800 miles away because you're the latest puppet in the Chicago Kabuki Theater.

Oh yeah..well how's that family life of yours working out with that 2 hour drive. Let's hear it. The quality time vs quantity time bullshit? Good luck with that career cuz you don't have a home life and when the clouted ones are done with you they won't hesitate to kick you in the azz. You will never-ever get back those missed opportunities with the kids and family.

OT: Today, JJJr's mommy stated her son is stressed because he has suffered 'enormous disappointment'.

"He thought he was going to be a senator. He thought he was going to have a chance to run for mayor. And young people don't bounce back from disappointment like me and my husband." (She seems to be admitting JJSr expected similar political offices and handled his disappointment better than junior.)

F.U. McCarthy, you where a political boss in the NYPD with connects here in NYC. You know it's wrong to have a residency rule on the boys/girls in the Chicago Police Department who protected "their" streets, where they have to raise their families in. Work on lifting it and show you could be a boss! You know you should have been locked up after the "shooting" on City Island but the bosses here helped you out of it. Remember where you came from.

As far as your two hour drive, you crying bitch...you chose that, just like everyone else. And you were able to come and go when you wanted, you were the Captain! Everyone did it. I can't believe you were crying on tv (after the NATO protest) for the attention of your officers and the City of Chicago. Leave that City or make the do change!! (and dont come back to New York)

I had worked with po's that lived across the street or a blocks from their district station, some took 2 expressways (as I did to get to 011), some take side streets, some take the CTA, some travel 30-40+ miles a day both ways in rush hour because they have to, others because they like to. It's their choice. But when your sent from way north to way south and there's no openings, plenty of us are stuck for for years because of no manpower, no time due off or openings closer to home because of no manpower.
I always hated that "when I was_____, I carried a sack of potatoes up a hill in a snow storm with no shoes on" story.
Ask the Mayor to hire some police, save the sad sack captain story for your memoirs.
Let's see how long he lasts here, there's definitely a crisis building within. This city won't survive without police.

Grow up. Residency is a horrible idea. Even if they lifted it, most would not move out because the market is in the toilet. Those who did move out would have to move so far that the commute would be two hours and over.

Residency is the last rule of political bosses that wanted to control every aspect of the peasants' lives. It needs to go the way of all other out of date laws.

You're still preaching to the media that extra police officers are not needed. Granted you do it in clever ways like:

Poor equipment? All they had was a rock and pot to bang together to send for help. Out-numbered? They single handedly won the Battle of the Bulge.

Its too bad the leadership dosent come down on gangs as hard as us. Instead of pandering to the media when a parasite is shot how its such a "tragedy", focus your hatred for patrolmen on criminals.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

I never said I enjoy living in this city, but I do acknowledge that I have to as a condition of my employment. You were made aware of the same stipulation when you signed on, pal.

If you have problems with your neighborhood and neighbors that's on you. I was smart enough to buy my properties in stable locations that haven't fallen the way a lot of others have. It's called making educated life decisions, not reacting to speculation that some numbskull coworker, friend or family member talked you into, asshole. Deal with your fuckup like an adult and learn from your mistake.

As for speculation: you seem to think coppers with kids don't want to live here - again your naïveté glows. My kids live in a beautiful house in a great neighborhood with some of the best schools the system has to offer. My immediate and extended family is nearby, both in the city and surrounding 'burbs. Crime is almost nonexistent where I live, and any crime that does get committed is petty (those pesky teens left empty Big Gulp cups by the swing set at the park AGAIN!! The nerve of those whippersnappers!)

Your statement is partially correct: coppers with kids don't want to live WHERE YOU LIVE. YOUR neighborhood is shit, not mine. Not a "good majority" of other coppers' neighborhoods, either. But YOURS is.

And there isn't a doubt in my mind that my neighborhood will hold until I'm outta here in a few short years. Barring the losses we all took because of the economy and housing market, I still stand to make a tidy profit when it's time - even if I sold tomorrow. Profit isn't the point, though. Having the aforementioned amenities, safety and secure environment in which to raise my family is what it's all about. Can't put a price tag on that.

So when you pull into your garage tonight and you notice that your downspouts have been ripped from their gutters courtesy of one of your crackhead neighbors, picture me laughing at you while I enjoy my little slice of heaven deplete of all the shit you have to deal with. Dummy.

Having retired after almost 34yrs, I would like to agree with the person who said the Department is so low it might never come back. It was destroyed by the Daley administration and we have reaped his whirlwind. The Department will continue to be it's own demise until decisions are based on what is right and not based on how others might react. Meaning, do what is right and not worry about political power, votes, or who might be offended. It is as simple as that! There is nobody within the Department or the city administration willing or able to do this. I MEAN NO ONE! The culture of spin prevails.

Remove residency and I'm moving to McHenry county or to Wisconsin just across the border. And they know it.

eh, no municipality is gonna let any employee live in another state, let alone more than 15 miles from the border.

Sorry Charlie but you're wrong on this one. I know Illinois coppers that live in Indiana and some of them work in towns that are not close.

The key word is "let". No municipality is gonna let...

And, as for you knowing po's who live here or there or wherever, sounds like you're a great friend. SHUT UP about it. If it's working for them, just leave it alone. SHUT UP.

Maybe if we donate our organs, then the city overlooks the residency requirement.http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/features_julieshealthclub/2011/01/update-kidney-donor-keeps-his-job.html

you have to sue to win residency or the union has to really petition for it. why has neither been done?

7/14/2012 09:56:00 AM

My question also!!!

7/14/2012 07:43:00 PM

----

Right. SOme Old Timer has to move out - get caught - get fired, and sue based on the Illinois Supreme COurt's holding in the Rahm residency case, where they said - if you intend to come back to your house in Chicago, you are still a resident of CHicago. It is all a question of intent. Then - we all chip in for the cops legal fees. He'd have to be in a position where if he loses, it doesn't really matter to him.

WestSide,

I'd love to know where your slice of heaven is. I live in Mt. Greenwood, but a couple miles in any direction excecpt west gets nasty.
What school system are you talking about? We can maybe send a kid to grade school , but forget about high school.

If you're a northsider and the neighborhood and school system is really that great, than I guess I just don't know any better and I need to start considering moving up there. If you're a southsider, than you really don't know any better.

As for "we knew what we were getting into when we got this job?" BS. As far as I'm concerned, all bets are off the table when the city started going after our pensions and any other thing they took (or tried to take) away.

This is not an attack on you WestSide. I'm not even the guy you commented on. I just want to know if the northside is indeed better than the Mt Greenwood area.

If anyone has made that switch, please post here.
Thanks

"eh, no municipality is gonna let any employee live in another state, let alone more than 15 miles from the border."

Not true. I know two Evanston cops who live across the border in Wisconsin. Their department is ok with it.

"Oh, let this idiot go to Wisconsin to live. Then he gets to pay tax on his salary here in Illinois and AGAIN in Wisconsin. Stupid, stupid, stupid."

You're not paying the ENTIRE state tax in either state. You're only paying a portion in each state. Stupid.
