Starbright?

This is interesting:
  • The stage is being set for McCarthy's exit. Mayoral staffers have an internal nickname for McCarthy...

    Starbright.

It came up after one department head who hates McCarthy's guts, pointed out how shiny the stars were on his uniform.

McCarthy does not listen to anyone. He refuses to make even the smallest change. He refuses to explain why crime is up and instead insists everything is going great. He is driving the mayor crazy.

City Hall is concerned that Republicans are going to start running national commercials labeling the city as crime-ridden Obama's Chicago. The ads basically say the entire country will look like Chicago if Obama gets a second term.

The staff is already back door interviewing for a new superintendent and, surprise, Wysinger isn't even being considered. The requirements are not what you'd think. They insist the new superindendent is a male (any race) with at least 25 years on the job who can present a "bad ass" image for the police department, which will go from promising to arrest nobody to insisting that we arrest anybody and everybody.

The 16th District Commander's name has come up more than once.
So we might finally promote internally? That might be promising. Might not be though, seeing the "quality" left over since J-Fled gutted the experience level before he left and McStarbright has done nothing to stop the brain-drain.

Now it makes sense. That's why the Commander of 16 is being called on the carpet by Weisinger at Comstat for things like increase in auto thefts, reduction in contact cards etc. it's all about muddying up your competition.

All that said, and though I like him on a personal level, I could never endorse him for Superintendent. Never thought I'd hear myself saying this. Sorry Al, you've completely sold out. And for what? Up until recently, when you had nobody else, you always had the backing of us west side officers. We knew you...worked with with you. You were one of us. You were a source of pride for us. Sadly, it seems the weight & pressure of being # 2 changed you. There's no forgiving the shit you've said to & of your subordinates at those fucking compstat meetings. Doesn't matter who the next boss is. He'll have to dance to Rahm's tune, like every boss dances for the mayor. So, "good guy" or not, in the end, we'll end up not liking him. Some of you really need to get past your expectation that a superintendent will say Fuck the mayor!" " I'm going to do what's best for po's." It just isn't realistic. Remember, the mayor interviews potential bosses. So, he when he appoints one, he knows the guy will jump when he says jump.

Changing hours at the change of a pattern, not giving out time due, disciplining people for giving time off, bosses not mentioning that there is a contract in place that they have to abide by. Wait til you hear what they have in plan for the Sgt's. For that matter, any chance SCC can get someone to go to the meeting to hear first hand? You cannot believe the stuff they spew out. In fact, at the last meeting, they want the troops to see what goes on at the meetings so that they can see how their bosses are held accountable and maybe that will help with morale? Comets however, shine for a period of time, and then go away, but they are still there in the universe waiting for their moment in the sun to come again. Just a lot of bs talk. It is not going to happen so stop speculating on who the new supt will be. Mccarthy is here to stay, and if you look at things, who would replace him? How would the mayor explain this? Mccarthy would be free to blast the mayor and the city and the department. You really do not think he would sit still and take this do you? The residents of the city got the police department they wanted. They let Daley ruin it with politics . The reverands and black community and liberals blasted the department for years non stop with the help of the media. The " occupying army", police brutality, driving while black, too much stop and frisk, out of control police units picking on the black community, yada, yada, yada. A few bad apples and a few bad incidents blown way out of proportion by the media. Now? I am retired and if I was still on the job I would be very careful to do any pro active police work. I have sat back for the last 10 years and watched Daley destroy the department and its morale. I get sick when i read someone praising Hilliard who sold the department down the drain along with his successor. The list of leaders put into place by Daley was enough to make you drink. It was all about politics and race and control. Now they are losing control and do not know where to turn.

Hi SCC--
As a longtime lurker, I am writing to inform you that Chicago just made national news on SPECIAL REPORT WITH BRET BAIER. Mike Tobin just did a piece on the troubling murder rate in Chicago. It's now national: Tiny Dancer 9.5 and McDumbfuck are two of the most incompetent, self-serving dipshits on the planet. I am not LE, but I am a longtime SCC viewer and I really appreciate the effort you put into this blog by reporting real news--not Democrat/Pravda propaganda like the MSM. I feel for the men and women--the blue shirts as you call them--who go out day after day doing the best they can for the citizens of Chicago. If there is a God, then the citizens of Chicago will vote this sawed-off Obongo hack out of office and Supernintendo will be unceremoniously thrown out the door. There is no way that either one of them can possibly sustain this spin bullshit from City Hall. Chicago has a major problem, and they need to let you men and women do what you need to do to neutralize these parasitic shitheads.

He knows that some of the aldermen in these hot zones get paid by the gangbangers to get the police to lay off and the mayor wants those aldermen's votes to pass his agenda. Remember how jump out boys was working so well that the aldermen ordered Cline to get rid of it. Same thing here. But knowing Rahm, our next Sup. will likely be Janet Napalotano.

You have to be fucking kidding. I don't think she made a single arrest during her whole career. She was the second unnecessary tact secretary in 004 before she made merit Sgt. total joke. And where is she now? inside as usual. Stay off the Blog...

Commander James Roussell for superintendent !!!
For those who do not k ow him it ever worked for him . He is the only boss who takes care of his men . He believes that the men and woman of this department are crucial in combating crime . A happy employee is a producing employee. He will bend over backwards to get his troops the needed equipment and resources to get the job done .
He was a CW officer in the Marines and has had boots on the ground in several overseas deployment protecting out Freedom .
Again commander Roussell for suoerintendant ! Who's with me?

J O'D has all of the qualifications. 1. He'll roll over on a p.o. Faster than Chicago weather changes. 2. He's a suck hole and 3. He drinks the company kool-aid by the gallon at the expense of his family. He'll demand you lock everyone up but when the lawsuit comes down he's no where to be found. "lock'em the fuck up!" he'll say and not have a legal reason for doing so. So he'll expect you to use your creative writing to find a reason. Listen up FBI you all are about to get busy locking up CPD if he gets the top spot.

"what happened to the leadership on this department?"

Most of them were axed under Weis (at the mayor's direction) and the ones who could see the writing on the wall fled on their own.

The few remaining left under McCarthy.

There are still a few leaders on the department, but none are of exempt rank; they're lying low & staying off the radar, hoping this storm, too blows over.

"Requirements also include being willing to dance to Rham's music."

Absolutely. It pays for the mayor to have departments that are dysfunctional leadership-wise, otherwise those in charge become a threat to you, particularly if the public and the media like you. At least in Chicago. Chicago's current and previous HMFIC's have egos so big, they can't be in the same room too long.

Like him or not, that's why Maurer would never have been appointed superintendent. He was too strong-willed. Chicago mayors want yes-men and someone to take the blame, nothing more.

"Came up with Wysinger. He was a helluva blue shirt & tac man in 011. He was a good undercover in Narcotics. Good Sgt, then Lt in Narcotics. All that said, and though I like him on a personal level, I could never endorse him for Superintendent. Never thought I'd hear myself saying this. Sorry Al, you've completely sold out."

And therein lies the problem. Few in CPD can go far if they're "one of the guys". A LOT of people say this very same thing about Wysinger and others who've moved up.

How can these guys and gals look themselves in the mirror each day?

BRING IN MAUER!!

7/13/2012 06:33:00 PM

He treated po's like crap, no respect for blue shirts. He talked to cops like they were idiots and he was the omnipotent king. No thanks. If a boss can't respect the job we do, it's not going to be good for morale.

PRECISELY the reason that exempts should have to work a beat car at least twice a year, preferably in the summer when things are hopping.

They need to regularly experience what goes on & work within the general orders (have you ever noticed how the "general" orders continually become more "specific", but I digress...) and rules that they've foisted upon us.

Unrealistic? Yes. A good idea? Yes.

Oh yeah? Once your buddy starts playing tough guy to the entire department we'll see just how much respect he commands and how many will follow his orders.

The only boss we need is a guy who fucking respects what we do who will NEVER lose sight of that fact. That guy will also expect us to do our job, not DICTATE down to the peon patrol officers like he's gonna fuck you sideways if you don't do what he tells you like he WANTS you to test him.

So far, the only name I've heard here was Gulliford. But as was mentioned, he's likely just smart enough NOT to fuck his career up by being forced out in 3 years.

Some people enjoy their job, mostly because they're not getting shit on like the BLUE shirt does. If Gulliford intends to stay longer than 3 more years he'd NEVER take that job. Much like ANY exempt member who hasn't maxed out yet.

Why the fuck would any member of this department take that shithole asslicking job unless they knew they were gonna retire in 3 anyway?
