Station Insecurity

No one watching the lots? No cameras?
  • Ten cars parked in the lot of the Ogden police district on the West Side were vandalized overnight, just days after two other cars in the same lot were scratched, authorities said.

In the latest incident, 10 cars were found scratched and marked with graffiti around midnight in the lot at 3315 W. Ogden Ave., according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs. The window of one of the cars had been broken, police said.

Around 4 a.m. on Sunday, two cars were similarly damaged, police said.

No one was in custody, and police could not say if surveillance cameras caught the vandals.

There's that silly idea that cameras can "catch" anything. Cameras record. Cops catch. And pretending that a 40-inch high decorative fence can stop anyone from hopping over it and having their way in a police lot without being observed once is unbelievable.

Will the city make good on paying for the damages?

Same shit different month..........what happen to all the station security after the 22nd district or 7th district vandals. Oh yea nothing. This department is a joke for officer safety. A front desk lobby is wide open at any station. No suburban dept have access like this. Everyone is behind bullet proof glass. On top if that we have bumbs, vagrants, homeless who are all convicted felons sleeping in station lobbys nitely due to commanders and xo's with zero balls to boot them out.

The fact is we are all on our own and no boss gives a shit. About 9 years ago some ahole went into the 023rd parking lot and took a screw driver to 22 of our personal cars. Major damage and all that was done about it was a case report and life went on. Of course it was only P.O.'s cars otherwise the bosses would have put up a security car.

The lots are wiiiiiiddddee open. In fact, the West lot even has a comfy bench for the local to sit on while officers walk past to and from personal and department vehicles. Recently, I was actually gathering equipment from the trunk of my car while in the West lot. I heard a commotion from the alley directly behind me (which is wide open to the lot). As I was deep down in my trunk, I couldn't help but think about officer T.S. (RIP) who was probably in a similiar position before his life was tragically taken. Those lots are for police and police only. The "mutual respect" policy can be handled at the front desk or in the CAPS office, not the parking lots!!

The officer's can file a damage claim against the city.

It is highly unlikely they will win said claim.

Plus, the city typically only pays 50% or less of the damage estimate.

And it takes about 6 months to find out if you will recover any of the claim.

The city sucks.

But we've wasted a car on 19th & Troy for 8 months for whatever bullshit reason however they wanna bitch and moan about how we need every car out there and thats why we can't use our earned comp time. And what do we get from our top brass here, a big I'm sorry from our xo who blames other coppers and silence from our commander. Two years ago this past week Thor was killed by a deranged madman in the lot at 61st and Racine. It was recommended then that a more secure fence be erected around the parking lot to keep out the riffraff. Last year an inspection division report stated that the fence around the parking lot was inadequate and did not provide enough security or control over civilian access to the lot. Low and behold, as of this week the fence is still exactly the same as it was the day Thor was killed. Pathetic.

When Thor was murdered in the parking lot of the former TRU headquarters, the Commander (KR) refused to do a security survey of the location. Instead he got one blue wooden police baracade and put it across the north opening. Problem solved.

7/18/2012 02:21:00 AM

I know someone who has a copy of the entire "security assessment" of the 011th District from about 1.5 - 2 years ago (one conducted by CPD, not SS). It cites several glaring security-related deficiencies which puts officers in harms way as well as shows just how insecure the parking garage and the rest of the facility really is. Example: door leading downstairs to locker rooms, radios, etc. was recommended to be closed/locked at all times and to be accessible to authorized personnel via a keypad-type lock. Instead, they mounted a sign that says "THIS DOOR TO REMAIN CLOSED AT ALL TIMES".

*** NOTHING ELSE ON THIS LIST HAS BEEN CORRECTED ***

Any officer that may get hurt in 011 due to the Departments refusal to correct recommended security and safety issues needs to let SCC know if/when it happens and I'm sure the officer will be more than happy to provide a copy of this assessment to any attorneys retained to sue the fuck out of the city for negligence and anything else. Shit, I'd guess it's borderline criminal to ignore something like some of the remedies specified in this report. Ahhh, but who really cares, right? We're just blue shirts.

006 has a similar set up in that civilians have a walk way that is between the building and the lot for PO's personal cars. It also makes the officer an easy target for an attack when he/she is exiting the building.

What a joke this department is. I, like many others, don't plan on staying here for much longer. Every time I look at the FOP newsletter, you know the one that comes two weeks into the month; I am baffled at how a retiree can make it to 30+ years in this city

Station security is a joke, like many other things in this department. People have forgotten that this country is on the official shitlist of islamic radicals, and those bomb throwers have declared a holy war against us and all non muslims. New York got the wake up call thanks to our lackluster government agencies FBI and CIA who could not get their shit together to prevent that tragic event from ever happening. You would think that after that, we would have more officers and bomb detecting dogs at every cta station, school, and other highly dense pedestrian locations, especially police stations. Not here though, because it costs too much and our wonderful mayor (former and current) and aldermen have more important projects to waste our taxes on, specifically themselves. Israel takes this very seriously, and they have impressive security measures in place. Even private jewish schools here are all 100x more secure than your average police station; high fenced perimeter and entry gates with officers guarding the lot. The rest of us are on our own. But don't worry, our millionaire former mayor has a 24/7 bodyguard detail provided by the taxpayers at no cost to him, and rahm has four 19th district squad cars watching his house and kids.

Have you ever gone to the FBI HQ on Roosevelt Rd? The parking lot is entered by a high, but upen gate which leads you to a totally fenced in and video surveilled parking lot. You then walk into a guard office, put all of your belongings into a locker and go through metal detectors and x-ray machines. Then, you walk to the main building. When you enter the lobby, you have to talk to a person behind glass. You would think these federal agents are really afraid of something. Try calling their Chicago number if you have some information. the agent on duty won't even give you his/her name. They are not customer service friendly, at all.

Chicago imam: “Qital [killing] is an essential element of Islam”

"An array of books is available on Islamic sites in the United States offering books for sale with titles such as “Commanders of the Muslim Army”. What is noteworthy about this tome is that the publisher is none other then Abdul Malik Mujahid, the newly elected chairman of the Council of Islamic organisations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) which is regarded as a mainstream Muslim organisation, but is part of a large Chicago Wahabist network closely aligned with the Bridgeview mosque Foundation, whose spokemen include Rafiq Jaber, is the head of the Islamic Association of Palestine, and Oussama Jammal, who claimed that Muslims were not involved in the 9/11 attacks. Jamal runs a film company and closely linked to Mujahid’s Sound Vision which is a multi media Islamist propagation commercial enterprise.

Several Bridgeview Mosque Foundation members, including a the head of the Quranic Literacy Institute who claimed he was publishing religious texts, were recently convicted of terrorism funding in a case brought by the parents of American teenager David Boim, who had been gunned down at a bus stop by Hamas terrorists.

There are zero degrees of separation between The Council of Islamic Organisations of Greater Chicago, the Bridgeview Mosque Foundation and Hamas and Al Qaeda affiliated individuals and organistions."

The cameras in the 010th Distict have not worked in the last two years maybe longer. Before NATO there were questions about how well the cameras worked. I told the District Commander, Deputy Chief and anyone else who would listen that the cameras in the Station and the ones in the lot did not work. They didn't record anything and no one could remember when the last time they did work. It seems that the only ones that work are the Red light cameras and maybe the new speed zone cameras. The cameras in the District stations and lots are a good idea, they maybe even mandated by law to protect citizens and Officers as well as our cars. But they don't work because no on knows how to fix them or the city will not pay for someone to fix them or cann't pay someone to fix them. But we have a few Million for cease fire right. The cameras will get fixed as soon as someone gets hurt and an attorney asks for the video. Just rmember "it's for the childern".

And those cameras in 010 never worked from day one and what was there is old school CRT screen shit. Your 7-11 store has better equipment. It would take a major spending outlay to rip out that crap and put in something that works, in all corners and outside in all weather. Then there is the matter of all those trees.

How about...

NUMBER OF PEOPLE TAKING TIME DUE.

LENGTH OF A FURLOUGH.

Where are you going?

Who is going with you?

Do you have airline tickets?

Do you have hotel reservations?

How much did you pay for them?

In 023, a few yrs ago, same thing happened with a few cars damaged in their lot. Recently, a few POs cars were struck and damaged by other POs who took off in hit and runs inside their new parking garage with security cameras. Turns out the cameras are so low grade that they are not able to identify any vehicle in the garage. Cars had to be repaired by their owners. Now that sux.

What kind of talk is that! Their bodies should be found. On pikes that should ring the lots, with the following branded into their corpses...
"Pour l'encouragement d' les autres"

The same phrase spoken when the French Foriegn legion would execute a coward in front of the company.
For the encouragement of the others

All whining aside...There are numerous officers who were assigned to parking lot security details during the NATO summit who whined about it and some simpy slept during the detail. We are our own worst enemy. The ones who do the least work whine the loudest. What about the desk crew that wants the doors prooped open because they are cold/hot? No thought about security until something happens and then it's all blamed on the bosses!! Maybe we should take some responsibility for our own situation once in a great while!!!

All those camera's inside the Academy record now.
What are there 16 camera's recording over there?

WTF

When Thor was murdered in the parking lot of the former TRU headquarters, the Commander (KR) refused to do a security survey of the location. Instead he got one blue wooden police baracade and put it across the north opening. Problem solved.

That's because Ryan is a pompous jag off who wears his pants around his nipples!!! Do you remember when the esteemed office crew of ball lickers found a "piece of shit" in his office? There was a huge uproar that somebody would disrespect the Commander like that, even though he was a total asshole. After the uproar died down they realized the "piece of shit" was actually a piece of dried mud from Dickhead's shoe. True story.

Will the city make good on paying for the damages?
============
why would the city be responsible to pay for the criminal acts of someone outside their control?

7/18/2012 06:01:00 AM
--
Because it happened on City property.
Because the City has previously been made aware of the potential for such action and the inadequacy of its security.
Because the City has the means to ensure the protection of cars and people in those lots, but fails to do so.

What a joke this department is. I, like many others, don't plan on staying here for much longer. Every time I look at the FOP newsletter, you know the one that comes two weeks into the month; I am baffled at how a retiree can make it to 30+ years in this city.

I have been thinking the same thing lately...

Pathetic.

++++

The Dept. scrambles and spends $$ without hesitation to install electronic door entry systems on every district after being nationally made laughingstock by that juvenile police impersonator.

But still, nothing much has been implemented to remedy the horrific security issues that plague many of our poorly designed police lots even after the wake up call involving the unfortunate incident with P.O. Soderberg.

Lot security detail is a joke. Just a spot for a P.O. nobody wants to work with or an op for a dog ass to catch a movie and/or play with the phone all night long.

John Murphy -025 Totally innocent and fired in a case of mistaken identity.

Larry Guy-017 Totally innocent of police brutality. Gives some prick a slap after razoring his finger on a custodial serach incident to arrest.

Kevin Morrison-016 Totally innocent and fired because he pissed Cline off.

John Krupa-010 Totally innocent, fired because he pissed some people off and made IAD look stupid/Deb Kirby.

Billy Olbridge- 016 Totally innocent, fired due to clout and officers lying to save themselves from taking time.

Kevin Talman- 017 Totally innocent, fired because he picked on Jerry Breimon and his ADS Mom didn't like it. The pics from the Admiral were stolen from his locker by someone who is now serving time for murder.

This is just off the top of my head in the last ten or so years. There have been quite a few coppers launched that should not have been. Tell me anyone of the above should have been fired.

I have seen POS's kill, shoplift, piss hot, beat people to within inches of death, driving hot cars, tax fraud, etc take little to no time and we all knew that they were dirty as fuck.

It's all about the CLOUT baby!
