Creative Math

Another amazingly flexible statistic:
  • Wow, is it true that shootings are down four months running as GMAC stated? Yet Homicides are still up?

Is the aim of these honor students becoming more true?

Perhaps an EMS and trauma center drop in performance as a result of Obamacare?

Or maybe just some more creative crime accounting by the east coast abacus?

Is this another incident of "less shootings" because they are counting each incident as one and not the number of casualties from each? In other words, the wounding of eight the other night on 79th Street, the wounding of four in Little Village and the single guy catching a bullet in 017 are classified as "three shootings" even though there were thirteen bodies with extra holes in them.

It's just a different way of counting.

UCR only counts incidents under the current rules, some thought has been given to changing this nowadays with computers and statstical programs. Yet, 12-people are shot is one incident and report by the PD as "one person shot" in the UCR tally and in the New Affairs Office (News Affairs writes like 75-percent of the story for the reporters) Really, it is how you define the varaibles in the equation. Right now, it is legit. A few places use a new system called total incidnt management and it reports all crimes, including subparts.

Yep you nailed it!

and if a shooting begins on 79th street and then there's a retaliatory shooting on the west side that's all one event right? Ya know they're connected events sooo..

Who in their right mind believes what that jackass has to say any more? The proof is in the pudding, pal. Families can't walk downtown without getting assaulted by packs of savage ghetto urchins. No amount of bullshit altered numbers you put out is believable, just like your beaches closed for heat next to the cool water bullshit flies with the public. Come up with some more creative lies you east coast hack.

“I wonder if, back in the 90s, every single shooting and every single murder was reported in this city. Somehow, i don’t think it was even possible,” he said. “Of course, that’s what’s happening today.”

This is Garys latest angle. Hes claiming that since the stats werent accurate before and now they are thats why the murder rate is up. Really?

When 8 people are shot at once, it counts as one shooting. Wonder if the public knows that?

Three shot on a porch? One shooting.

Six shot at a bus stop? One shooting.

The question to ask is not how many shootings, but how many SHOT?

Journalists in this town are like lemmings.

Since McBaghdadBob is comparing numbers from the 1990's to today, why not compare them to 1950? Or 1810? Or 1930's, when gangland shootings were rampant?

What a f*cking moron. And the bobbleheaded 'reporters' just bobble their heads and report this bullshit.

This 'bullshit' made news because it was vetoed. The little girl was a mini-celebrity this year, running from media venue to media venue touting her great little plan. The plan would have been a huge change in the way business is done and would have denied municipalities their rights to control or not control what goes on in their retail establishments.

It was vetoed, so we can all get and use plastic bags when we want to, instead of when the government wants us to.

OT: Have a friend in the LT class and he was saying Illiana from IPRA was in explaining that every call for a supervisor will result in the PO or PO's getting a CR number no matter the circumstances. Then went to the director of academy and demanded 8 hour class on CR procedures. Was asked how many people who signed the affadavit against the officer then recanted their story and were prosecuted for this. The answer: none.

I will admit I am bitter towards IPRA. Was stripped for 38 months. Got stripped on a 28 month old CR#. That's right, was deemed safe to work the streets for 28 months then stripped, and wasn't told what I was stripped for until after being in callback for almost 2 years. Eventually got back to the street.

My main problem is that Illianas' power is unchecked. She can do whatever she wants without being questioned. She can tell the ADS of the academy what to do. She can tell LT's what to do. and yet, she's a civilian. The US government is set up with a system of checks and balances so one person cannot do as that person pleases. IPRA has no such system. It's unmitigated power. It's a akin to a dictatorship: you can't challenge the boss. And it's scary. And the power is being abused. Do the police need policing? Absolutely. But at least offer officers the same rights as the lowest, dirtiest criminal. And it would help if the person had a CLUE of police work.

Sorry for the long post but the city is at war. Numerous people being shot and killed every day. Tourists and citizens being beat and robbed downtown and on our trains. People being beaten on the beaches. We are losing the war and losing bad. Yet, a woman with unlimited power is pulling hundreds of police off the street because she can. It almost appears as if she is getting kickbacks from Gangs to get police off the street. She definitely protects the gangbanger more than a policeman. This is sad. The department needs someone in leadership to stand up and protect the blue shirt. Someone to not be afraid to challenge the dictator. There is much blood in the streets yet a dictator controls police policy and cuts the numbers of those who took an oath to protect us from the evil that lurks. Yes, we are losing the war while gangbangers run free. Something has to change. Soeone needs to stand up before it's too late

seriously dude?!! I think u are delusional if u think IPRA is ruling against 100s of POs. Just go to their website and read the hearing\case summaries?! If the avg Joe were reading this they would be up in arms at this disciplinary process. Most citizens would serve time for behaving as alleged. And trust you were not treated worse than any gangbanger....you were given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to work while the case progressed thru the system...u were not locked up during the process or required to post bail....no u were paid and maintained full police powers. And apparently u were one of the few cases that the IPFR actually sustains the levied allegations and even more rarely you recieved apparently proper discipline rather than 2 days suspension or less. SD
Gotta say glad ur off the street ...not bringing discredit to the force and please stop whining and blaming others!

Hey Rahm! Since you are a former suburbanite and current north slider, how about picking your kids up after school at the University of Chicago Lab School, and taking them to Rainbow Beach? It will really be a learning experience for all of you. If your wife Amy thinks it unsafe, you could compromise and try the 63rd Street Beach. Come on Rahm you could pretend you in a mini-triathlon.

First, I'm glad you were able to get back on the street. It's a shame that this idiot has basically carte blanche to do whatever she pleases to conduct these witch hunts.

Secondly having been a Sgt for 16 yrs, I'll be damned if I'm going to initiate a cr on every supervisor request. I've initiated ONE cr in 16 yrs (and yes, I've worked in a district on the street all 16) and that was only because I would be able to unfound it immediately whereas if they called IPRA, it would never be unfounded. 90% of the request supervisor calls are complete B.S., yet we're supposed to cater to these police haters and initiate a cr? I don't think so.....
