Gear Up for the Weekend

Strap in boys and girls:
  • Nineteen people were shot in attacks across the South and West sides between about 5:20 p.m. Thursday and 1:30 a.m. Friday - including 13 people during a single 30-minute period - according to the Chicago Police Department.

The shootings peaked between about 9:15 and 9:45 p.m. Thursday when 13 people were shot, including eight in a single incident at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

Police are still trying to sort out that shooting, the second of three incidents that left multiple people wounded since 8 p.m.

As of 4 a.m., none of the 19 people shot had died.

The first reported shooting Thursday afternoon left four people wounded in the Little Village neighborhood about 5:20 p.m.

Ninety-plus-degrees today and tomorrow.

Some people might wish we had some citywide units to throw at the hot spots - but trial and error has shown that they don't work. At least, that's what we heard. And you know that you MUST believe our leaders because they "passed" actual tests and have intimate knowledge of the ebb and flow of the streets they never served on. Don't be relying on your lying eyes, that stack of bodies on the corner and the endless wail of ambulance sirens.

Please post your best ideas....I'll have a bunch made and pass them out. Where ever they get pasted is up to you.

I'm sure you coppers can come up with something hilarious! I saw one that had Chicago Flag and said, "We don't care how they do it in NY"

Funny, back when we had citywide units there were plenty of comments always referring to the officers in MSF and TRU as "3yr wonders" and "hairgels" and it seems the majority of the comments and even an SCC post or two said the units need to be disbanded. (in SCC's defense the posts usually said to combine TRU and MSF into one unit and therefore eliminate the need for quite a few inside personnel and don't use all the officers from both units.) Well the units were completely eliminated and I'm pretty certain it's obvious they WERE making a difference. At least it would be easier to prove their impact than CEASEFIRE which the ELECTED OFFICIALS GAVE $1,000,000 to. Which brings me to my next point. ALL OF THIS INCREASED BLOODSHED FALLS ON THE ELECTED OFFICIALS. It was the ELECTED OFFICIALS who suggested eliminating police officer positions from the budget. It was ELECTED OFFICIALS who VOTED and approved eliminating officers. It was ELECTED OFFICIALS who said the police department needs to disband the citywide units and move those officers into "black districts", and it was ONE ELECTED OFFICIAL WHO PROMISED TO PUT 1000 ADDITIONAL OFFICERS ON THE STREET. He repeatedly stated this lie as he campaigned and now he and the communities are paying for his lies.
This isn't the brainchild of McCarthy or Hilliard, those orders came from ELECTED OFFICIALS who 1. know nothing about policing. and 2. are pretty dumb in general. If you really truly believe that idea came from either of them you must be as stupid as the ELECTED OFFICIALS that are to blame. McCarthy and Hilliard were just doing what they were told by their supervisor. Lets face it, they are paid to make SOME decisions but mainly they are the ones the politicians hide behind when shit, like this, is flying. The good thing is most citizens know this is not the fault of the CPD and thats what really has the ELECTED OFFICIALS worried.

Panic at Headquarters

McCarthy now has us looking up Monthly arrest stats for all police officers from 2010 and 2011 and comparing those stats with 2012.

Commanders will be given the names of all officers with lower arrests. Commanders will put ALL officers with significantly lower stats into the Personal Concern program. Then they will counsel all officers who HAVE NOT INCREASED their arrests.

It looks like if you were always a dog, you're in the clear, but those who've dropped down their arrests will be punished.

The real reason is that 2012 arrests are the lowest in the past 15 years and that's only because the records are poor going back further. It is completely possible that 2012 will have the lowest arrest totals in the last 30 years.

McCarthy must go. He made a statement in the hallway of HQ that he knows police work and that he is embarrassed by how Chicago has policed for the last 150 years. He further stated that he was going to make Chicago the safest city in the country. That was last september. In 1 year Chicago has become the most violent city. His magic has not worked and worse of all nobody respects him. No one wants to work for him! His policies are dangerous! He is a fraud! He MUST GO to save the police department and city of Chicago!

At this weeks Comstat meeting, McJersey announced that we need more "hands on the wall" saying that they noticed that violent crime shoots up between third and first watch during the change of tour. He said that they think it is because the supporting teams are in with arrests and they are off the streets. When the new watch comes out they are busy handling back logs. From now on, citywide, he wants more "hands on people" and that he does not "care about the jobs." He repeated it several times that he does to care about the jobs and that what he care about is people getting holes in them, let the jobs stack up at the tour change, "I don't care about the jobs", he wants the first watch out the door putting hands on people the second that they get hit the street.
So what happens when we get the beef that we did not respond fast enough or when someone gets hurt or killed because we did not respond to the job in time? All because he wants more "hands on people?" instead of hiring more police to do the work. It is great to declare this in front of all the yes men, but who is going to tell OEMC?. And why doesn't the media that is at these meetings report this kind of stuff? I would think this would be a huge story.

Curious as to latest parolee and felony probation concentrations related to shootings and gang locations. Can't keep the drug dealing, gangs, intimidation and recruitment in check in the prisons and yet politicos follow a policy of early release, probation supervision to save money instead of cutting who's who contracts, bids and developments. In pursuit of such dealings they instead drive blue collar industry and jobs out with regulation and taxes that may(just maybe)have provided an alternative income and occupy part of the parolee/youths day. Now we have these guys hanging around same corners 24/7 as the youth and recruiting them via enticement or intimidation to make them money and start the cycle over. And with national "open" border policy and local sanctuary practice feeding more and cheaper drugs as well as manpower and assets for distribution and an increased ability to diversify operations, it can only get worse.

Last night for the violence reduction initiative 2 teams were sent to 009. While we are waiting for the fearless commander of 009 in the station jarmaurez is out making an arrest for the arrest of the week a female who is purchasing alcohol for minors. As the fearless leader he is comes galloping up on his Chicago police dept golf cart which he tells us cost 15 grand thanks to da supt weisal brings us to roll call and tells us about operation flip flop. Thisis the new strategy that he has come up with about freeing up the beat cars since they all know the big shots and the hot spots. So one team is going to answer all the jobs the beats cars were suppose to handlenwhilenthenothernteams is going to handle 2 boxes and drive past 10 addresses. While the commander who will be wolf packing with the troops will be throwing guys up against the wall and locking people up to get them off the street. We I'll make a difference tonight. So while this strategy is only being tried out in 009. There still managed to be 2 people shot in 009 who 010 found the guys at cermak and cal on the way to the one and only mt Sinai for the emergency room drop off but the plans were foiled by the evil cpd who stopped them in their tracks. The inmates are running the asylum. So beware if you are working special and you get sent to 009. That is what you will be doing. Good luck and be safe out there

You gut manpower to the lowest it's been in decades, reward the hard-chargers that were in MSF & TRU by dumping them to ghettos, some traveling from one end to the city to the other and now deny time due and you're wondering why arrests are down???? Are you f'in kidding me??
Don't put yourselves in the trick bag just to appease these idiots. They'll hound you for numbers and then sell you out when the lawsuit rolls around. I'm not advocating not doing our job, just be careful and NEVER make an arrest for the sole purpose of keeping the powers that be happy. Keep your family and your future in mind.

P.S. you're weak-ass argument might hold a bit more water if you learned how to spell and properly convey a thought to print. Now go get the boss some movers, hairgel.

Good luck and be safe out there

commanders are running scared, afriad of compstat and McIDon'tKnowNothingExcepttheMayorisMadAbouttheShootingsandHisGuyBigOisinTrouble(economyandall)andtheRhamsterissupposedtospeakattheconvention

maybe after 44 strategies, someone will decide, including the academics, that almost nothing works.....

OT:

West Side Democratic leaders on Friday picked Chicago police officer Eddie Winters to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Derrick Smith, who was kicked out of office over a federal bribery charge by his Illinois House colleagues last week.

Winters will hold the office until January, when the winner of the Nov. 6 election is sworn-in.

Despite being removed from office, Smith remains on the ballot and could reclaim his seat.

He is up against third-party candidate Lance Tyson, an attorney who Democrats picked to run against Smith after he refused to resign and drop out of the race.

Winters, who works as a counter-terrorism officer, was the unanimous pick of a panel of Democratic committeemen led by Secretary of State Jesse White, who previously had backed Smith.

Something about being part of the District compliment, talking about violence initiative officers handling district calls. So i would have to guess that the city is admitting we are understaffed finally! Why else would we need all these overtime cars? Someone trying to save money really screwed the entire city

Navarro is the Commander in 025 now u asshat, but we'd take him back in a heartbeat in 004! Also, 004 used to have pro-active teams & PO's until Lt. MR starting playing games to accommodate one Sgt while punishing another. Later starts for the teams really works well, right Lt. - excellent strategy divide the teams, split up partners on the beat, alienate Sgt's and then go on the medical for others to clean up. And the best of all, if the desk crew doesn't put the "out-of-favor" PO's that hes looking to punish in the right car or alternating starts he calls from home superseding the district supervisor and makes the changes - what a gem of a guy that Maurey Richards is, a real gem of a human being. You're a fucking idiot. Must be why you're no longer "a PO in Michigan".

I have too much invested and too much to lose to gamble it away to get caught lying falsifying an official report. Or worse yet, deprive some asshole of their freedom predicated on lies. There's more than enough dirty motherfuckers running around out there to lock up, no need to sandbag anyone. Plus, I sleep very well at night; you can't put a price on a clear conscience.

And your "horseshit reasons" are just another reason why people distrust and hate the police - the reason why ghetto jagoffs take shots at the police.

Stick to picking up my garbage or mopping floors at the park district or whatever it is you do for the city and leave being the police to people that actually passed the psyc test and have some semblance of common sense.

That parade has been going on for fifty years now. God knows how many "reverends" and "leaders" and "activists" have kept their hats blocked and their suits pressed and their fine sedans filled with gasoline off this.

Pull your pants up, quit yelling and breaking bottles and peeing in the hallway and banging off guns at people's houses in the middle of the night, killing little kids in their beds, and maybe we'll have a beginning.

Until then, it's just police-keep-the-lid-part-way-on time.

--8/24/2012 10:54:00 AM

One I keep an eye on was paroled right out to 79th And Something. "Terror Town." For every one there's 100...

"Can't keep the drug dealing, gangs, intimidation and recruitment in check in the prisons and yet politicos follow a policy of early release, probation supervision to save money instead of cutting who's who contracts, bids and developments."

You think the pols are gonna step on their own toes? Ha.

"In pursuit of such dealings they instead drive blue collar industry and jobs out with regulation and taxes that may(just maybe)have provided an alternative income and occupy part of the parolee/youths day."

You mean W-O-R-K?

Franklin Park is helping to drive many of the long-standing machining and metalworking businesses (in a strip along the railroad tracks there, both sides) out of business with high taxes. "FOR SALE," "FOR LEASE."

The tax load is shifting to the (now maybe unemployed?) owners of tiny homes there, who tell me that their property tax has gone from $1500 to $6000 in eight years.

The BIG MEXICAN GROCERY STORE on the main drag has failed! If the town could support anything at all, you'd think that would have been the last to go.

...and the town has cleared a whole city block for a new police station -- right by the unsold condos and never-to-be-built "Phase 2" condos.

All this feelgood looknice stuff in the middle of a depression. River Grove putting in miles of brick sidewalk strips along Grand Avenue. Can't shovel snow off a brick walk when it's new, let alone once it frost-heaves up. New walk in front of the failed bowling alley, the brand new empty, never-get-started eight-store strip mall across the street from the failed hardware store.

What precisely is their tax base? Notice that tugging feeling around your wallet?

Gonna flee to Cicero, buy a $39,000 foreclosure? Watch it. Another guy says the taxes on a little place like this were $7700 for him last year.

"Now we have these guys hanging around same corners 24/7 as the youth and recruiting them via enticement or intimidation to make them money and start the cycle over."

Guys on corners? Prison recruitment? Ha. The babymamas and pass-through multiple boyfriends at home raise their children up representing. "Look! He made the sign! Ain't that cute." They post videos.

"And with national "open" border policy and local sanctuary practice feeding more and cheaper drugs as well as manpower and assets for distribution and an increased ability to diversify operations, it can only get worse."

Yup.

Good comment; good overview of complex situation, with every factor pulling us down and "over the cliff," as Fed chairman Bernanke recently said and which I am hearing repeated and repeated now...
