Numbers Not Adding Up

The most recent FOP Newsletter (August 2012) lists the retirements for April and May:
  • April - 59
  • May - 34

There are a smattering of bosses listed there, but the vast majority are Officers and Detectives.

Remember McCarthy's promise of hiring 500 officers this year, just to keep up with attrition? How big are those classes in the Academy at the moment?

  • summer class - 42?
  • 01 August - 34

And there have been more than a few who quit already. Is there anything else on the horizon? We haven't heard much. But the 70 recruits don't cover the 93 retirements just from April and May.

And how about the recent promotions? That's another 31 blue shirts gone.

And in the "Departed Brothers and Sisters" section, we spotted at least 3 names that seemed awfully young. We doubt they saw much retirement if any.

Something isn't adding up.

Smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors. All from the Chicago machine. No fucking way are they gonna get 500 hired. Even if they somehow do, there's no way they'll match the # of retirements...

It's all a numbers game that is a losing battle for the ones with the blue shirts on and it's fucking sad.
As a caring citizen I'm disgusted with the bullshit you guys go through. Garry needs to grow a pair(won't happen) and DEMAND more officers get hired to surpass the number of retirees(and then some more). Again, won't happen, but its a happy thought.

Fuck you, Rham(neighbor). You're the problem here, not the CPD.

Just wondering if those Cease Fire violence interrupter positions have a Chicago residency requirement on them?

The tradeoff may be worth it.

Speaking of violence interrupters if the downtown Tower of Bullshit changes their pr's to refer to officers as violence interrupters... we can then lump everyone together from the Fruits of Islam to Cease Fire Clowns in the count of people put on the streets to address the shootings.

Why that's at least 23 more interrupters right there!!

I'm one of the people that received their POWER test notice via email and it went into my spam folder. Maybe if the city got their shit together and had more than 40 people show up for the POWER test the hiring numbers would be higher. I found my notice 4 days prior to the test after reading about this happening to people on this blog. When I went to take the test, I counted 37 people that showed, all but 12 failed. Aren't there supposed to be way more than that showing up for this?

I find myself thinking this a lot lately anytime I read or watch the "news".
Especially the financial news.

The numbers haven't added up for years SCC...

Ray Charles, though he's not only blind but dead as well (RIP) can see the following...

5000 Coppers, give or take, have left the job since Y2K.

Every district before the consolidations to hide said 5000 man shortage; was down approximately 200 Officers.

The ghosts at HQ are whispering even louder that CPD is around 8000 TOTAL.

"But I looked in CRYSTAL..."

Computers can say whatever dirty cocksuckers WANT them to say...

"FOP says..."

Why yes... Indeed they do say...
And they will continue to say for the foreseeable future... We do wish they would dispense with the chit-chat and start landing some hard licks on behalf of the membership.

The proof that the "official numbers" are plausibly lubricated with bullshit is in the the fuckery of across the board restrictions on time due and no bid openings to hold people hostage in shitty districts so they can't exercise the right to escape. Especially when they're being mistreated by bad bosses.

Oh yeah... The latest broadsheet printed with Kool-Aid & bullshit about "rewarding" people with time that is theirs is the thinking of a bad boss...

You KNOW there's a shortage and it's biting asses at 35th St. REAL HARD but instead of being honorable and doing the right things by the men & women in Patrol, these toothless gold star gumps try to pretend the manpower shortage is the fault of the Coppers left standing...

Since everybody is being run ragged, nobody has the time to form a "posse" and follow a dirty, rotten boss around to get the goods on them and convince them to stop fucking with peoples lives and families.

Before the "Great Contraction" starting in Y2K there were enough people to sneak around or run interference when needed.

We suggest pooling resources and hiring a P.I. for that.

Amazing how an asshole can reform when he/she realizes the people he/she are fucking with can fight dirty too.

Nothing says back the fuck up like brown envelopes stenciled with "Read Me" on them showing up at home addresses and the station.

Heh... Just sayin'.

The polygraph is eating up many of the applicants. Have you seen who's coming through lately? The women are pretty tiny, the guys look average. I feel bad for the ones that get out and go to a busy district!

United Airlines loses little 10 year old girl on solo trip to camp at one of the worlds busiest airports O'HARE.

This must be the family values that mayor Rahm speaks of. The family paid United Airlines extra for this service!

I would be real surprised if the actual numbers of cops in Chicago does not continue to decline. The city is broke and can afford no more than perhaps 8000-10000 total in the long run.

Other departments will get hit as well.

What do you think, will Sears be creating jobs anytime soon with all that Illinois taxpayer bailout money or are the politicians just propping up their friends in old has-been 20th century buggy whip companies that are unwilling or unable to compete.

For the period ended July 28, Sears lost $132 million, or $1.25 per share, for the period ended July 28. That compares with a loss of $146 million, or $1.37 per share, a year ago.

They reduced their losses by 10% Ha maybe in ten more quarters they'll be a break even then eh?

Rahm never said by the end of which year. Probably by the end of 2015 he will have hired 500.

Look for a giant gap as another tier of officers is created and starts in the academy. Lower pay, lower top pay, less benefits, smaller retirement, pay more for insurance. Plus they shit on you more. What's not to like? May they proudly wear the uniform, remember, earned not given.

CPD could put 100 more police officers on the street today.
Let's assign Commanders , Chiefs , unit co's secretaries back in patrol . Hire civilians or put some duty disability officers in office jobs . The officers that are now lawyers or running a business collecting 75 % of pay.
I never understood why a commander needs a sworn police officer to answer a telephone and open their mail . A Police cadet should be hired at $15. an hour to do that.

Just a thought...

Funny how there's a lot of chit-chat about raising the minimum age of retirement from 50 to 55...

Did somebody cruch the numbers and find out that the mid 80's to mid 90's hires have been leaving sooner and faster than 9.5 and McWhiskeyshits made allowance for in their master plans?

Everything those two idiots are trying to do centers on holding coppers hostage...

No recognized vacancies...
No time due...
No furlough extension...

Every set of wind-up dentures madly clacking away about "there's no manpower shortage, we just have to Police "smarter" with the people we have."

Rahm wanting 12 hour days?
Heh... 12 hour day = 33% increase in pay... Right?

We shouldn't have to give up shit... How's that for a starting point in negotiations?

These fuckers are asking for a whole hell of a lot but they're not the ones intentionally being burned at both ends.

Not a damned thing is adding up on the far side of the equal sign but then again we don't do "funny" math in spite of being fully able to count higer than 10 without taking our shoes off to "figger" our toes.

"Ought minus ought equals naught..." Is how people from yellow clay country did it...

all the folks like father flagher should ask the mayor where are the new pos he promised. the money is in the budget but no new pos on the street. what exactly is the money being spent on, new bike paths, money for a new hotel? the safety of the citizens does not seem to be a priority for the mayor. all we get is a new plan or give money to a group for what?

The starting dates for new recruit classes are in constant flux. HR simply cannot make up their mind and develop a plan to hire new recruits. The new date for the next class is either August 27th or august 31st. Then at least 2 new classes each month thru November. Howard's panties are in a super bunch! his crew is not prepared to handle the huge numbers of classes. The pressure is mounting for Howard.

How about the city bring back the re-employment policy and hire back experienced officers who left for one reason or another. Tracey Ladner had that policy changed and removed from the web site under department directives.
