I think it is hysterical that this article is reporting that Pat Camden is the FOP president. From his mouth to God's ears...Better than the current guy.

It also cites Camden saying that the bullet went through his knee (i.e. Camden's).

Just A Civilian (who read it that way, and thought "Well, I guess the President of FOP still has his regular duty.")

P.S. May the injured officer recover fully, though I am afraid the odds are against it.

Glad the officer is okay, but I have a question:

Why do officers think it's okay to use plural words in the singular form (e.g. "A Chicago Police was shot...")? Police is always plural. It makes you sound uneducated.

Punks shot at the officer tonight. Juveniles. Again we have thugs due to non parenting. Good show of police at the 10-1 called. The super was on scene and even Mike Shields from the FOP. The route of the escort to the hospital for the officer had officers blocking the intersections. Off duty officers in the area even came to help both on scene and at the hospital. The punks think they can take over the schools and the streets with there callous attitude toward life. Call it what you could but monsters are being made out of these low income neighborhoods. Chicago Police officer and 15-year-old boy shoot each other

8/30/12 3:45

By: MICHAEL LANSU  AND LEEANN SHELTON Staff Reporters

A Chicago Police officer and a 15-year-old boy shot each other Wednesday night on the Far South Side, police said.

The 35-year-old officer was shot near his knee and the teen in his leg and side in the 1300 block of 112th Place, officials said.

About 8 p.m., plain clothes officers stopped three teenage boys for “suspicious activity,” police said. But the 15-year-old boy fired at the officers and “engaged in a gun battle,” said Police Supt. Garry McCarthy.

But at least two residents said the officer shot his gun first.

"But at least two area residents said that the officer fired his gun first."

I'd like to know exactly what the Suntimes meant by adding this comment. Are the police supposed to let a fleeing gang member who is in the act of buying/selling guns in a park just flee with a gun and allow this offender to point the gun at the officer without taking action? I guess it's only fair to let the misguided youth take a couple of shots before returning fire. Unfuckingbelievable.

I have had enough--has anyone else noticed that in the past 5-7 years, CPD officers no longer make street stops of pedestrians? Nor do they do traffic stops of various vehicles, let alone for traffic offenses? The guns are not walking or dr
iving themselves to the crime scenes, they are being moved by people, and people in cars. Daley started this crap, and Rahmalahma ding dong has has encouraged it; Weiss had a better idea, and now Mc Carthy is trying his hand at kinder gentler policing. When are the citizens going to realize that the police need to be unfettered and allowed to do their job. Or are they embracing hte philosophy of a community that makes war on its police had better learn to make friends with their criminals?

Unfortunately, mike along with the rest of the mopes up there forgot just who it is they work for.

typical sun times bs/slanted reporting going on with this story. A couple of anonymous local savages said the police drew down and fired first, and they report that like it is credible info. Also quick to say the offenders are kiddies, and the ofcr. was shot "near" his knee. Sounds like Camden is saying through kneecap which could disable ofcr and is an excruciatingly painful injury . Godspeed office

God Bless This Officer and may full recovery be bestowed upon you. Be ready to deal with the Medical Section during this time. The way they make officers with serious injuries suffered through IOD's continually go to HQ for follow ups in crutches, cast, and medical braces is apauling. Just to see where their recovery or treatment is going. To top it off Cfd is now in the building which means even less parking available in the immediate area. So these officers have to park, if that can find them several blocks away. No parking spots allotted at HQ for Officers with seriuous injuries. I think the department tries to make difficult for officers with injuries as a form of punishment. Why can't these follow ups be conducted over the phone so these injured officers don't have to deal with the b.s. Take your time coming back Officer and remember your health and family come first, fuck this city and department they don't give two shits about you.

09:39 Sorry to hear that you evidently had problems with the medical section when you were IOD. That is not always the case. My son was shot and I can tell you the medical section from the director, nurses and front desk people went out of their way to help and make his healing and rehab as easy as possible. As far as the parking, the guys on the gate always made sure he had a place to park while he was at the medical section.
