Teachers Set to Go

Rahm is going to look bad:
  • The Chicago Teachers Union filed a 10-day strike notice on Wednesday in an attempt to put additional pressure on Chicago Public Schools negotiators in ongoing contract talks.

At a packed news conference Wednesday, CTU president Karen Lewis accused CPS leaders and the mayor of engaging in a "smear campaign" against teachers, raising the possibility for the city's first teachers' strike in 25 years.

"It has been insult after insult after insult. Enough is enough," Lewis said.
Rahm can't control the Teachers. The homicide rate is up 30%. For such an allegedly smart politico, he's turning out to be quite the idiot.

I hope when our contract comes up for renewal/ruining, I get messages from Mikey Shields and Da Mayor, explaining how tuff it is out there (financially), to make ends meet. This city is a joke and we're the butt of it.

I guess I'll just grin and bare it.

Rahm is not a smart politico. He is a self-proclaimed 'spin doctor'. He used to be very fond of bleating that phrase to anyone and everyone when he worked in the White House.

It's much harder to 'spin' facts. Not impossible, but hard. You can't 'innuendo' the murder rate away. You can't 'affect public opinion' of rape victims. You can't 'smear' or 'expose' auto theft numbers.

You can't slyly wink and pat a whole fire department on the back as you walk them across the lawn and threaten something they value, in order to get their cooperation.

He must sorely miss those days in the White House, when he actually had some pull.

The media covers the talking heads, commonly known as politicians, as they bash, belittle, make many false accusations, insult, and attempt to shame teachers into working longer for no increase in pay. The teachers are not the bad guys. Neither are the police, fire fighters and other city workers. Contrary to the falsehoods spoken by the politicians and reported by the ignorant media, the majority of us did take these jobs not solely for job security, but to work at making this a great city.

I hope the teachers strike. The police and fire departments should come down with the flu. Other city workers should commit to a work stoppage, too.

We have been asked to do more for less and with less, while the politicians get rich.

Enough is enough. No one is clamoring at the doors to be a CPS teacher or a CPD beat cop.

The teachers deserve a fair contract and so do we. The citizens need to demand that the politicians stop fleecing the city with their lucrative contracts awarded to their friends. The money is there to see that fair contracts are negotiated, but it is tied up in the back rooms of filthy political wheeling and dealing.

CPS can make major cuts to their budget by stopping their funneling of "program", "equipment", "service" contracts, etc., to the politically connected.

Hundreds of millions get siphoned to individuals and companies who are doing business with the city. Go after these crooks in earnest. This is where millions upon millions of dollars are being stolen.

Yet, the media is happy to go after the little story where there is a small amount of corruption so that they can pat themselves on the back for their pimpy endeavors.

Strike, teachers! You need to bring this tyrannical leadership to its knees.

As for you coppers who keep on working over and beyond the call of duty, you are fucking idiots. As long as the tyrant Emmanuel has people like you working for him, you are contributing to this madness.

I am near the end of my career. If we as coppers do not take a hard line like the teachers, you young coppers will have it even worse.

Go ahead, teachers, strike. You got my support. My last kid in CPS will survive and so will the other kids. A strike will insure your ability to survive against a city hall that is hostile towards you.

My kids go to CPS so I have a vested interest in this and would rather they don't go on strike. That being said I certainly couldn't blame the teachers... Rahm and his band of fools refuse to negotiate in good faith or reality.
I think a strike would put Rahm in a bad position and hopefully let him know that, try as he might, you just can't run roughshod over the unions. Negotiations is a give and take process.... all Rahm wants is to take, take , take.

How come the media never prints this? The longer school day actually affords less teaching time for students than the old, shorter day. Apparently, the height-challenged one wasn't aware that teachers didn't get their own lunch time in some schools which was limited to twenty minutes. Now they will get a full duty free lunch period. This combined with recess actually results in less classroom time and time to speak with any parent about their little darlings is non-existent. If the teachers go on strike for even one day, it will be a major slap in the face for that midget on the 5th floor. Karen Lewis, you'd get my vote in the next election if I were a teacher.

The chicago public school system, by state law, is prohibited from engaging in any teaching of the students during any strike unless it is by fully accredited teachers. How do you think that law got on the books? Do you think the unions went down to Springfield with buckets of cash for our political class ? If the teachers go out then hire scabs and keep the schools open.

The cities in this country run by democrats are going belly up. Camden, NJ is planning on laying off all of their police department with the County taking over with non-union police officers working for a lot less. The pundits say this is a trend that will continue across the country as cities find out they cannot afford the public sector unions. 1500 former police officers have applied for the new jobs with the county police force. The most senior Camden officers will be fired and not hired by the county. A sign of things to come?

That'll be true on the day he doesn't get a paycheck.

He took this "kingmaker" position pretty much for sport, to further cement in the agenda of his special interest group. It's just a chess game. Every day he is in office is Good For Him and bad for everyone else. He will continue to decorate the collapsing "Potemkin village" with "skating ribbons" and Maggieparks and so forth, painting over the dry rot, until the day comes for him to take his money and move down the hall into some "consulting" firm or back to the White House, it just doesn't matter.

You only lose when you don't know where your next meal is coming from. These people -- the whole Rolodex full of them -- are in a win/win/win situation. All you see every day is them making sure of that for each other.

'they' do 'contribute':

1. votes, for the you-know-who's reelections.

2. spending your money to purchase goods and services which you would not, since you, presumably, haven't cloned yourself.

3. mayhem, mischief and malevolence, which provides the perfect distraction, while the politicians pilfer.

4. a purpose, for those still soft of head and heart, and still well fed, to sympathize and support the politicians who pilfer.

5. a means to totally depress a given area's real estate value, allowing long term property speculation to pay off handsomely.

6. while awaiting the above, a means to milk the 'subsidized housing' cow.

7. a reliable supply of 'lab rats' for ER employees to hone their battlefield skills on.

8. expendable sales personnel to keep that dope cash flowing.

9. 'political contributions' from those receiving those 10 for 1 contracts.

and, finally:

10. what, you wanna put me out of business, or sumpin'?

Chalkie

The only recession is the one created by our elected government! To the other poster who asked for someone to keep tally on the real reason for the city being broke, here you go sir (you sincerly asked the right question)

: 250 million to malcom X college
1 Million to cease fire
25 Million for a contingencey plan for when the CTU goes on strike
14.9 million from "private donations left over from NATO
ALL the "private funded money" Chicago spent on a busted olympic bid!!!
X million for miggs field camp ground (aka bums paradise by the lake)
What else? what is the pension hole worth we are climbing out of ???
I put the above numbers at 289.9 Million Dollars (just this year)plus the X dollar amount for Northerly Island...

would the above amount cover it? hell, it would at least make a considerable dent in it.

The difference is the private sector "honors" its matching to the 401k, why you ask, because it is company money... Where does the city get its FREE MONEY... TAX Dollars! there is no urgency to fund the pensions because the money does not come from their own pocket!!! WE DIDNT START THIS FIGHT, BUT WE GONNA END IT!!!

Teachers only pay 2% of their salary towards their pension. The city pays the rest. We pay 9% and they are going to stick it to us; Think about it
___________________________________

After thinking about it, teachers can earn 50% pension after 20 years, so can cops.

After thinking about it, cops can retire at full pension at 29 and a day. Teachers need 34 years.

After thinking about it, cops can start collecting whatever percentage at age 50...

After thinking about it, teachers cant collect until their 63 or 65 depending on the year legislations dictates for the current year (always changing).

So, there might be alot more teachers, even though there should be 13,000 cops ( and there is about 8,000) and 25,000 teachers,

13,000 can collect full pension for an extra 13-15 years prior to when a teacher can.

do the math brother- most cops are as stressed lately as teachers- neither group on average makes it past 70-75. That has to equal about 6-7%% more of a pension draw than teachers...

Let me know what you think after you "think about it!

If they leave earlier, they lose one-half of a percent each month which equals six percent a year. So someone who goes at 55 loses thirty percent of their pension. You want that deal? You want to stay until 60? Do your research before you post idiotic comments and misinform everyone.

Teachers pay 7% towards pension. Cps picks up the 2%. Get your facts straight.

Think about it, we teach what you arrest. Imagine having it in the classroom all day with your hands tied because God forbid you call for help, no one comes. I love the kids and it is certainly not for money but do not share your opinion unless you understand. Cops and teachers are more alike in many ways. We should stick together.

The only recession is the one created by our elected government! To the other poster who asked for someone to keep tally on the real reason for the city being broke, here you go sir (you sincerly asked the right question)

: 250 million to malcolm X college

Maggie Park: $55,000,000 to destroy the north end of Grant Park and rebuild it, then rename it

Boathouses $18,000,000
Bike Lanes $3,000,000b this year
Basketball courts $2,500,000

Two new fieldhouses, $28,000,000
8 artificial turf fields $11,000,000

Of course, NONE of these can be put off for, say, ONE YEAR, in order to fund firefighter and police pensions. The city is broke!

Can we tally you numbers to shine the light on the true doers of fiscal fuckery?

Rahm & Co.?
Daley Inc.?

Billions stolen from the taxpayers by Daley Inc.?

Billions more sitting shrink wrapped on four foot by four foot pallets awaiting transport to God Knows Where?

Courtesy of an underdeveloped North Shore shit-ass who is fixated on giving muni employees a bad financial haircut to make himself look good for a future Senate or Presidential run?

*I broke the backs of "greedy municipal employees and their unions to fix the budget mess in Chicago. Elect me... I'm worthy*

Fuck you... we're doing our best to insure you wake up one morning and find your dreams and aspirations laying next to you as a rotting corpse... You're at least worthy of that.

Running total in the Rahm al Ghoul Back of the Bus 3 Card Monte Kabuki Theater and Homicidal Mime Extravaganza?

408.4 Million dollars to spend on everything BUT an intentionally starved and depleted Police Department.

Rahm's priority IS NOT PUBLIC SAFETY!

As the toilet that is Chicago overflows onto everybody's shoes, Rahm Emanuel is borne aloft in a sedan chair carried by CPD body guards.

He eats fine fruits, (well, maybe not tomatoes) cheeses and drinks smart tingly wines while swaddled in silks and linens as his attendants fan sweet incense to keep his nostrils from being offended by the stink he created.

This little freak is here only because Daley didn't succeed in stealing everything.

He crosses his eyes, grunts and 408.4 million magically appears while he's cutting the throats of Policemen and their families while trying to back-door counter legislation to short circuit existing legislation that mandates the city to fund the Police Pension at a minimum level?

Picking and choosing winners by having legislation enacted at his pleasure to suit his agenda?

An upright and clear headed electorate wouldn't stand still for this.

An upright and clear headed electorate would see clearly that if a politician were targeting the first responders who ARE CITIZENS, MEMBERS OF THE ELECTORATE & TAX PAYERS THEMSELVES... What would keep the politician from targeting everyone else once?

Weimar Republic? Germany 1933?

Destroying unions...
Destroying unified voices of opposition...

Co-opting the Fourth Estate into a propaganda tool of the criminal-political apparatus in power...

"For the children..."

Frightening when you see the flaming drop top limo of history noisily passing on the right with the grinning skeletal figures from the past in the front seat and the current fools in charge like Rahm Emanuel sitting comfortably in the rear...

Everybody else in the car with YOU is acting like YOU'RE the only one that saw the spectacle but they're white as sheets from seeing the sight.

=====

How much $$ is sitting in unused TIF funds?
Or better yet, Rahm and Co. giving TIF funds to private company(s) that DO NOT HAVE TO PAY IT BACK!

STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE!

FUCK the 1% and Rahm Emmanuel. Teachers are striking and everyone who wants to see wages increased should support them. Don't let Rahm and the rich control are destiny's any longer!

Strike with us! Or start work to rule or work slowdowns. The first unions were illegal and all strikes were illegal, but they did it and won major victories. We will never win anything with fear. You know they are going to try to steam roll us, so you might as well go down swinging!
