5K Reward

  • Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for breaking into a police stable and injuring several horses last weekend.

Late Sunday night, officers assigned to the mounted stable unit arrived on the grounds of the South Shore Cultural Center and found 27 horse out of their stalls, [...]

The horses were circling inside the stable’s arena and were shaking. The officers discovered that a rear window was used to get inside the facility in the 7000 block of S. South Shore Drive...
Beating up helpless animals is bad enough.  Beating up living memorials to our deceased members makes it personal.

Who's idea was it to leave this facility unsecure. Sounds like most of the police stations in this city. Poor horses had to suffer for somebody major fuck up. Thank God it was only what it was, it could have been so so much worse and even horific if you know what I mean. Way to go McCarthy. You sure are on top of things.

I thought there was security there 24 hours, 7 days a week. How can the animals be left alone? If it's an issue of man power, hire back a group of retired guys to watch this facility and any other facility that needs security. The brains at 35th street come up with so many useless ideas but they can't figure out we have facilities that should be manned at all times?

The coppers who used to be on duty providing security to what is a police facility were snatched on Rahm's orders by McCarthy to work the street, "for the kids," you know, to provide some of the 1,000 additional officers Rahm promised.

However, none of the officers assigned to guard Rahm's house 24/7 whether it be occupied or empty were taken to combat the violence on the street. Conversely, officers who worked the street were taken OFF the street, to guard Rahm's house, garage and tomato patch.

Also, Richard M Daley still has his bodyguard detail, that is FORMER Mayor Richard Mumbles Daley, who now works in the private sector giving lessons in mumbling, obfuscation and concealing the truth from the federal government.

For those who might need a definition:

Obfuscation (or beclouding) is the hiding of intended meaning in communication, making communication confusing, wilfully ambiguous, and harder to interpret.

In addition, Ed Burke still has his bodyguard detail and City Treasurer Stephanie Neely still has hers. Those officers do NOT work the street, instead they are protecting the political royalty of this city and not protecting the kids who regularly get shot over in Englewood.

Now who is more important, the children of Englewood or the political butt wipes of Chicago? never mind, I know the answer to that one.

How come TIM NOVAK AND CHRIS FUSCO aren't writing articles about that??

Just don't blame Mrs O'Leary or anyone Irish because that would force Ed Burke to convene a committee to declare them innocent of all accusations and get them in line for sainthood.

It's going to get secured now. As much as I want to crack a joke about McCarthy "closing the barn door after the horses have bolted," I won't. This aint a McCarthy issue. This is an issue about some sick mfs who hurt innocent animals. Let's hope we get those sick people off the street before they do any more damage.

Even if the idiots in charge don't care about the animals (horses and canines) themseleves, they're city property (under the law) and should be guarded/cared for properly. Abandoned in a shit area overnight with no security is not taking proper care. Headquarters would have more interest apparently if a patrol care was dented.

As an animal lover, I appreciate and understand where people are coming from with wanting to secure the stables. However, I believe stations need to be secured/updated before any type of funds are earmarked towards a facility security makeover (not that this would ever happen either - "we're broke!" the city will cry). We've had documented incidents of goofs walking into stations with loaded firearms, etc, etc, etc. Our people need to have better security before any animals do. But we all know what's gonna happen now: 2 officers detailed per watch to the stables around the clock. This will last all of a few months before its business as usual and some asshole supervisor determines that manpower is needed at some ghetto school or community center where savages can't behave. Either way, it's sickening that it happened. Whoever did it needs to be beaten mercilessly when caught. But let's not have our emotions get in the way putting horses before people.

Isn't this property operated by the park district?
I remember in the recent past that they would have one of their security people - usually a retired copper - working there over the midnight hours. Did this practice stop?
I know a lot of guys nearing retirement still working the street who would love this assignment. This is on the border of the 3rd district. They didn't even know about this on the 1st watch or they would do premise checks.
Hell, the 9th district had a two man dignitary car for decades that just checks out the politicians homes all day and night long. All the horses asses in the evil Daley cabal had protection,

OT -- BREAKING NEWS--

JURY CONVICTS AMISH GROUP OF HATE CRIMES

September 20, 2012

"Samuel Mullet Sr., the domineering leader of a renegade Amish sect, and 15 followers were convicted of federal conspiracy and hate crimes Thursday for a series of bizarre beard- and hair-cutting attacks last fall that spread fear through the Amish of eastern Ohio.

"The convictions of Mr. Mullet and his followers and family members who carried out the assaults could bring lengthy prison terms. The jury’s verdict vindicated federal prosecutors, who made a risky decision to apply a 2009 federal hate-crimes law to the sect’s violent efforts to humiliate Amish rivals..."

I sometimes wonder what goes on in the heads of fellow coppers. After reading some of these comments about staffing the stables or k9 kennels overnight makes me wonder.

Look, you think the city really gives a fuck? Save your breath. There are 2 foot high gates around the district desks THAT DON'T WORK OR LOCK anymore. No bulletproof glass mounted on the desk extending 8-10 high. Cameras that don't work. pdt's that don't work. Cash for clunker squad cars that are unsafe.

A 14 year old does a ride along and out runs the police in a foot chase, codes jobs- 19p squad, locks a domestic offender up (I got the arrest you do the paper he said) and what happened after that? Paper signs were taped on the doors -POLICE ONLY. LOL.

Anyone can walk in and out of these old stations at will. Some terrorist can walk right through the back door of 012 without any of the hair gel tact guys noticing. By the time they were done with their 1 bagger arrest they would greet the mother fucker and show him where the men's locker room is.

An officer lost his fucking life in the parking lot, 010 district cars are vandalized, god knows what happens in 007 and 011. I had to drive past that parking lot to see for myself why Thor had to die. Unbelievable.

And you fuck sticks think something is going to be done. Go grab an event number for a Boss that won't back you up and write your parkers for Rahm.

=====================

McDrunkin couldn't have a Limited Duty Officer there because of the Tracy Ladner Limited Duty plan.

Within the early months of 2013 you will see a dramatic increase in the number of PO's looking for disability because of her plan.

That plan is just another scheme by the city to lower the amount of PO's thru limited duty attrition.

These PO's go to work each and every day yet the Ladner plan will eliminate them from the department and force them onto the disability rolls.

The increase in the violence against police horses is most definitely decreasing. In fact, in the last 24 hours there has been zero violence against horses, proof positive that the anti-vioilence against horses initiative is certainly working exactly as planned. Horse ribbons all around, all 10,000 officers will get the new anti-horse violence ribbon. The ribbon will resemble a $100 Win pari-mutual ticket stub from one of the local tracks.

With the ribbon will be a coupon good for one free admission to Arlington Park or Maywood Race Track, your choice. And as we already know, some people on this job have had a horseshoe up their ass since their date of appointment. That will be noted on the uniform by the horseshoe cluster for the horse ribbon.

OT: Should the City IG be in charge of the Police Department?

I think he thinks he should.

Read the Scum Times and he will tell all how he found the problems within ERPS.

Like we all did not know there was a problem when they first moved it from the basement at 26th and Cal to the wreck of a building on Homan.

Maybe the IG will tell us where we get the funds to fix the system that no one wanted to fix in the first place?

We cannot hire officers for the street but the IG can show the shortfalls of a system that was out of date years ago when wonder boy Huberman and the rest of the Computer wiz kids started the new inventory system as it is now.

We have an internal audit and control unit and we must have an outside investigation from city hall find the faults. Why because the Department did not want to find the faults to begin with.

I would like to see one of the news media outlets really go out to the stables and show the deplorable conditions that the mounted officers have to work in.
The stables are crappy and old, poor facilities. You should see the so call 'physical conditioning' room the officers have to work out in. Nothing new in there at all, just pieced together by the mounted officers themselves. the whole facility is totally inadequate for them, and the horses too. The city and the park district have both ducked the ball for many years as to who will finance the renovation of the facility. Neither wants to pay, although since it's on park district property, it should be in their court. But no one wants to add renovation of the CPD stables into their budget, so the place continues to fall apart all around the officers and the horses. It's just shameful. Maybe one of the news outlets will see this and go over there and show just how nasty the place is, from top to bottom.
