Illinois Concealed Carry

  • In the only state that doesn’t let its residents walk around with concealed firearms, a northwest Illinois county could become the testing ground for gun enthusiasts who want a clean sweep for their Second Amendment rights.

A grass-roots movement in Winnebago County is taking aim at Illinois’ long-held position, setting up a possible showdown between gun-rights advocates and a sympathetic state’s attorney who believes the effort won’t pass legal muster.

The county has scheduled a pair of hearings this month to determine whether it should allow people to carry guns within Winnebago borders. The proposed ordinance – which was written after officials received a petition with more than 11,000 signatures this year – would contradict state law.
And why would Winnebago county be fighting for this?
  • “Illinois is now a magnet for every bad guy in the country,” Sonnenberg said. “If you were a bad guy, where would you go, where your victim won’t be able to shoot back at you? That’s why our crime rate is going through the roof."
Evidently, Rockford is where all of Chicago's crime went when it left town, so they need guns to protect themselves, unlike this Utopia we reside in, where unicorns and rainbows populate every corner on the south and west sides with a smattering a fairy dust on the north.

That, plus if you get caught, at least in Cook County, there's a really, really good chance that you'll be charged with a lesser crime and even if convicted, won't do too much time.

Even if you kill someone, you're not getting the death penalty, so if a life of crime is your thing, Illinois is the place to be!

(Hey, at least we're attracting some jobs!)

I'd have little beef with Preckwinkle's "Violence Tax" on guns & ammo if:

1) It weren't called a "violence tax", because it's not taxing those who commit the violence.

2) The money went to fund firearms education (like classes for concealed carry holders).

3) The money went to help defray the cost of a concealed carry permit (because you KNOW there will be one) for those on fixed incomes & below a certain income level.

Must be a south sider. Not everyone up north is fairy dust.

Maybe, probably not, but just maybe, this will push the issue a bit further. The judges here hate guns, especially in the hands of the law abiding citizens, so the courts will thwart the legislature at every turn. Problem is, the state legislature is full of democrats too.

After the elections and just in time for Christmas, when the realization sets in that no matter who won and that we're in for four more years of political bullshit I think all hell is gonna bust loose.

Just a guess. Time will tell but from where I sit we're on a pressure cooker.

Good. Roll with this even if it flops the first time.

Next time even more people will come out -- maybe in other counties too. Hear from some of those places downstate where they don't even like to give out the county's phone number.

Even the media are starting to mention that this is the "only state in the Union" with no carry provisions...

I'm sending the wife and kids way up to rural Wisconsin with the fireman neighbor's family on Election Day afternoon. The savage will be out, ala Rodney King riots, no matter who wins. Have a "Go Bag" with extra ammo, mags, water, Gatorade, granola bars, etc,,,,,if Barry loses, we ain't leaving work......and with the leads Romney is showing in polls that even the pollsters can't fuck with anymore, it's looking that way.

Someone needs to explain to CeaseFire's Robert King that self-defense isn't "vigilantism," nor is self-defense "taking the law into your own hands." Where do these people come up with this cr*p?

Why can't they tie any gun violence with revocation of entitlements?

You use a gun and are convicted, your family loses out all its government "freebies" - cell phone, Food Stamps, etc.

Why doesn't Cook County invoke that as a test program?

Too intrusive to the Po' Folk? Too bad - it's time to send a real wake-up call to get your family's act together. Everything else has NOT worked, so let's try some tough love.

Working People are tired of picking up the tab of people not working.

Yup, and it's okay for the government to tax my right to free speech, too, as long as the monies go toward public speaking classes, sign-making workshops and subsidizing the purchase of paint and placards for demonstrations. And they can name it the Elevation of Elocution Tax. Not.

rb, you're losing it. This is simply a MONEY GRAB by Preckwinkle. There's NO justification for it and the people it affects are NOT the ones with 'violence issues'.

Yes, but ONLY in Chicago.

Illinois is the last hold out in concealed carry.

There are so many victims here. Why take chances elsewhere?

OF COURSE it's a money grab!

I know that. I also know that there's no way they'd ever approve my suggestions. They were tongue-in-cheek ideas.

I'm with you-it's not a "violence Tax" because they're not taxing the violent animals, just the victims.
