CompStat Media

  • One day after Mayor Rahm Emanuel decried the rash of shootings over the Easter holiday weekend, eight people were shot across the city in less than seven hours.

The ages of the victims — one teenager and seven men — ranged from 14 to 56.
Pretty soon, the media will be comparing this seven-hour stretch to other seven-hour stretches to come up with percentages that crime is up or down compared to the another seven-hour stretch from seven hours ago.

The weekly numbers have got to be pretty ugly, too. Sure we're getting 40 shot per weekend, but the numbers for Monday through Friday have got to be nearly as bad. Perhaps the guys over at HeyJackass.com can toss up some Sunday through Saturday numbers? We're going to bet it's between 60 and 80 people shot per week - call it 70 for the over/under.

Does that sound like "crime is down"? We don't have anything to compare it to, but 70 shot in a week sounds like a city out of control.

Maybe you can add this to the rules column Scc? But how about no whining or complaining about the St Jude march. If you don't wanna go don't. If you do go you are appreciated by the family members of the deceased that are in attendance. So either go or keep your mouth shut be a crybaby and dont.

Has anybody brought up the idea of lateral transfers for CPD.A Chicago Officer can lateral into a suburban department why can't a suburban cop lateral into CPD? A few weeks in the academy to learn paper and general orders. The officer must move into the city before probation is over.Just an idea!

Do we all agree that these shootings have to stop?

Before any "solution" is decided, we need to know if EVERYONE really wants to put an end to this once and for all.

There ARE crime-with-a-gun laws - ENFORCE THEM.

Stop "looking the other way" with light sentences handed out in court.

Stop ALL welfare and entitlement money to anyone involved in a crime or supporting anyone in a crime.

As far as Rahm's image for higher office? That has been blurred and tainted already, but if this continues, that image will be totally wiped out - quickly.

Next case.

OT: Is Chicago's vast camera array any better?

Jet stowaway at hospital as security issues linger

HONOLULU (AP) -- Surveillance cameras at San Jose International Airport successfully recorded the teenager on the tarmac, climbing up the landing gear of a jet. But in the end, the cameras failed because no one noticed the security breach until the plane — and the boy — landed in Hawaii hours later.

Although the 15-year-old apparently wanted nothing more than to run away, his success in slipping past layers of security early Sunday morning made it clear that a determined person can still get into a supposedly safe area and sneak onto a plane.

Video surveillance can help catch trespassers. Some airports use not just human eyes watching video screens, but also technology that can be programmed to sound an alert when a camera captures something potentially suspicious. But just because something is caught on camera does not mean it will make an impression.

Despite great promise, "sometimes the actual results are quite underwhelming when it gets to the real world, where people are fatigued, people are preoccupied," said Richard Bloom, an airport security expert at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. "There's no way to guarantee security, even if you had one person per video screen."

The city has decided to 'utilize' the tact teams on their days off in various 'impact' zones through out the city on their rdos starting May1st. Apparently downtown thought this was a way to fill those hot spots without opening up too much Vri. Downtown said that the tact teams would be more proactive than the people who were gobbling up all the VRI dates. So this is their way of skirting the system and not using senority while filling those VRI boxes. Little do they know that with all the other usual crap they make tact teams do, they will be seeing several grievances from officers who have both rdos cancelled

The alternative to manipulating shootings over a time period would be to produce numbers by location.

Like the shooting in this neighborhood or block where we put all the fixed posts are down....as the rest of the city goes to hell.

The administrations numbers are bullshit from the word go and everyone knows it that has half a brain.

We see it in the crime stats and time and again on revenue scams and schemes that have fallen short over and over and over....and over.

The good ol' days of the fearless leaders controlling the talking points are history.

The purpose of the corporate/political partnership media is to ridicule, discredit and isolate opposing views as "wacky conspiracy theories".

See, no-one thinks like that only you.

Try using the phrase "conjuring up images" in your speech's.

The word conjure in itself elicits images of ghosts and goblins and witchcraft hocus-pocus.

It's about creating "group think".

USE OF peer pressure from a group will get you in line with the talking points.

When that fails just call the troublemakers racists.

See?

Choice of words is important.

If we were told that the U.S Constitution was a rambling manifesto would any-one read it?

Most people have a switch in their brain whereas those words are interpreted as crazy conspiracy theory stuff and therefore a waste of our time.

If the media doesn't want you to read something because reading it may make you think differently from the main stream powers that be -- those are the type of phrases they will use.

So that said. we should want to read what they are talking about even more instead of blowing it off.

Someone likely fears the message contained within.

Like when certain people talk about crime and "conjuring up images" as though the real images of blood death and mayhem are not real they are illusions.

37 wounded, 40 wounded... stop it, stop conjuring up those images. Look at these giant puppets we're bringing here instead. Oh man look at the size of those things..hahaha...don't look at the wounded, the dead. Look at the puppets and stop reading that manifesto.

It's actually not been beaten enough. These trauma centers and revised medical procedures in general deserve a lot of credit for keeping the murders down. People are taking straight head shots and walking out the hospital like its a foot wound. of course you can't forget all the foot wounds either now.

OT: I was reading a old tribune article from August of I believe '92. 1992 being one of the most deadliest years in Chicago history I was surprised to read the toll for the deadliest weekend so far that month in a month that saw well over a hundred murders. The final body count for that weekend? 9 dead, and if I remember correctly, about 50 wounded. NOTHING HAS CHANGED!
