NATO 3 Sentencing
- Cook County prosecutors are seeking a 14-year prison term for the three out-of-town activists who insist they never wanted to cause harm when they allegedly helped make crude Molotov cocktails under the watchful eye of a pair of undercover Chicago Police officers in days leading up to the NATO summit.
“A sentence of 14 years . . . is fair and just,” prosecutors wrote in a 48-page sentencing memorandum about the trio known as the NATO 3.
Brian Church, 22, Jared Chase, 29, and Brent Betterly, 26, face a four- to 30-year prison sentence when they appear before Judge Thaddeus Wilson for sentencing on Friday for misdemeanor mob action and possession of an incendiary device to commit arson. The trio has been in jail for roughly two years and attorneys for the men argue they’ve served enough time.
A decade or so might be a good message to send.

I would stop bitching if our public servants could retire after a life of giving up their lives to protect and serve and that some of the jagoffs spent one hundred percent of their sentenced time serving it.

Personally, considering what the Cook Co. judicial system usually hands out for rape, murder and arson, another two years sounds about right.

14yrs is more time than most assholes in this state do for murder! 14yrs for hippie dumbasses who talked a big game and did absolutely nothing. They are eligible for 4-30 on the "possession of an incendiary device with the intent to commit arson" which is a pure-class 1 felony. 14 years is actually 7 with time considered served. When you add in the credit for time already served, they'd be out in about 4-5 years. That's appropriate given that had they succeeded in their plan to light a PO on fire, we'd be having a much different conversation right now.

Because Holder would define them as misguided and would organize a fundraiser for them.
One defendant told the judge to suck it and then said he is going to die in jail. He does not care. Good riddance.
