Porter Still Guilty

  • The former chief of criminal prosecutions for Cook County is questioning whether his boss at the time, Cook County State’s Attorney Richard Devine, freed a convicted killer and put an innocent man behind bars for a double murder after failing to thoroughly review key evidence, according to a sworn affidavit obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Thomas Epach Jr., a highly regarded retired prosecutor, wrote in the affidavit that Devine’s decisions were “highly unusual, if not unprecedented” in the case of Anthony Porter, who was convicted of a double murder in 1983 but whose conviction was thrown out 16 years later.
You might think there was a thorough investigation of the so-called "confession," but you'd be mistaken:
  • In Epach’s affidavit, he said Devine decided to release Porter from prison less than two days after the media broadcast the videotaped confession of Simon.
Two days, and Alstory Simon has been serving Porter's time for the past 15 years. What a fucked up system we have here.

Porter is as guilty as home-made sin...

Funny... Nobody in the anal whore media is taking any hard shots at ol' alma mater, NU Journalism School...

Porter should fry... A few North Shore academics should dangle for this eye-watering miscarriage of justice on top of a tragic double-homicide.

Epach is a no good rat. He was a divisive machiavellian prick wherever he worked. CCSAO, dupage county or CPD. He failed to mention that Devine, Joe Birkett, and Phil Cline all dumped his ass.

Tom Epach is one of the most honorable men I know working at any level in law enforcement.

Ultimately both of these cretins should not be allowed in our society. What difference which one is in or out? Or apparently that's what someone believed.......

I've seen many an occasion where Tom Epach has worked on behalf of the police and their families especially at cop-killer parole hearings with little/no recognition or fanfare.

He's out to expose an injustice as does our brother Marty Prieb in his book.

Porter was freed by liberals and the political system. One can only hope that any publicity will correct this mess.

Media, please shed some light on the The Medill Innocence Project at Northwestern.

Epach is the ASA that was involved with Koshman case and now said that Vanecko should have been charged. The problem with that theory is the any homicide detective will tell you the ASA never wanted anyone charged with a felony it was their job to blow off felony approvals just to shorten the work load. Theory being that the real bad guys will be back with another felony charge soon and the real bad only have to go to jail that is why they always want his rap sheet just to see how many passes jag off got so far in life.

The irony of Northwestern Innocence Project is that they framed and put in prison an innocent man (Alstory Simon). Porter (who did the killings) was set free and given money by the state, but in his place sits an innocent man in prison. So Professor David Protess, do u feel good putting an innocent man in prison?

Don't forget the alleged criminal behavior of a private investigator who allegedly did what NWU and the innocence project have been accusing the police of doing.

Just finished reading Martin Preib's Crooked City.

Very troubling. Hope he starts a trend and things start changing around here.

Tom Epach was actually one of the sharper and better ASA's in that office. If he is claiming this, it is definitely worth lisening to.

Yeah, sounds like the 'highly regarded' is maneuvering to keep himself out of a lawsuit. Did he resign in protest? Did he do any further investigation? Highly regarded my ass. Sneed's source for useless bs.
Northwestern et al will be sued. Good.
As far as mr. 'highly regarded' goes, the moral is:
Never get hair plugs and dye them. It makes you insane.

Dan Devine, ah, the memories.

When he insisted on participating in the first trial of The Brown's case, he couldn't even get the franchise correct.

He made reference to Burger King. Doh!

Crooked City by one of our own is an outstanding read and goes into detail about some of the disgusting tactics used by the so-called "innocence" project. Protess and Ciolino should be sitting in jail with that animal Anthony Porter.

Epaach is honorable? What world are you living in? He was one of the worst things to happen to CPD and CCSAO. He is a cancer on any organization. He is not to be trusted.
