Garry Melts Down...

  • Sunday’s violence on the North Side prompted fresh questions about police staffing and crowd control tactics just a week after a bloody Independence Day weekend left scores of dead and wounded across the city. At a press conference meant to highlight the Police Department’s gun seizures, Superintendent Garry McCarthy grew frustrated as reporters kept questioning him about what went wrong at Montrose Beach.

“I'm trying to tell you all about gun violence here in the city, which is our number one thing,” McCarthy said at the Grand Crossing district station on the South Side. “We had people who died over the weekend, and a disturbance at a park is something that we'll fix moving forward, no two ways about it. But we have a problem here, and I'd like to bring attention to it.”
Spin spin spin. Redirect redirect, redirect. Look over here at all these shiny guns! Never mind that they look the same as the ones trotted out a few weeks ago. And the same as the ones from a few months ago. Don't look at the dates on those inventory tags! Get away from those tables!

And then this is among the stupidest things we've heard an aldercreature utter - and we've been listening to them for more than a few decades:
  • Meanwhile, Ald. James Cappleman, whose 46th Ward includes Montrose Beach, praised Sunday evening’s police response but expressed concern that nearby Chicago Park District parking lots allow large crowds to gather at Montrose Beach more easily than at other lakefront beaches.

“Look at Oak Street Beach. Do you see this many parking spots there? Look at Lincoln Park. There just aren't this many parking spots in such a concentrated area in other parts of the city,” Cappleman said. “I want the Park District and the police department to come up with a plan to discourage that many people from driving down there and parking.”

Go back and read that again - an aldercreature is actually suggesting that people DON'T come down to the lakefront, that the Park District tear up parking spots so that people can't enjoy the parks.

Wow. Talk about your misdirected solutions. Parking lots must now be banned as they lead to unlawful and permit-less gatherings of people determined to be assholes. You can see exactly how this relates to the gun "debate"in liberal minds:
  • Guns are evil and are the source of evil, so we'll ban law abiding citizens from being able to own them. No word on disarming criminals because that might be dangerous.
How about hiring police and adequately staffing the districts? How about Summer Mobile? How about a city-wide response unit? How about some effective fucking law enforcing against the criminal element so decent people can enjoy their city?

Hey alder-moron, I have a better idea. Eliminate the parking. Then the patrons can park their cars in the adjoining neighborhood...you know, Uptown. Then they could double their chances of being a victim of a crime. How many were shot last year at Wilson and Sheridan, at 6pm on a Monday?

The lake front park is for the people that live along the lake front. If people want to visit a park they can go the one near their home. That simple. Or just install paid parking and outsource the business of collecting the parking fees, with the City enforcing the parking meter violations.

We used to drive over to. Foster ave. beach every weekend. Park, drink a beer, laugh and have fun. I dont recall ever throwing bottles at the police or anyone else for that matter. We just had fun. If you guys told us to leave. We fuckin LEFT. Because thats what you are supposed to do. That was 35 years ago. The complete lack of respect today is sickening. How sad that a policeman goes into a situation to try and restore order and they have these shitbags try and harm them.
Chicago has to TAKE BACK its parks and neighborhoods. And rahm and Garry here is a news flash. Talking nice and being politically correct is not going to get it done.get shit back to the way it used to be. Put the mobile summer unit back. Get some presence on these streets and get tough. If you're gonna go down...go down fighting for the damned place at least. Dont just turn it over to the savages and walk away.

I used to hang out at the Montrose beach rocks. Police would come by and confiscate minors beer, coolers and all. But I guess that was when they had enough Cops to do that. Now the police only show when it near a small riot and people are shot. What a different city I grew up in.
I remember Jane Byrne ordering the taking back the lakefront from the drug dealers and gangs in the late 70's-early 80's. The police did what they had to do, and changed the whole scene to their credit.
So sad that there is no political will to do the same now.

Eyes on the Street: Crew Responds To Bike Lane Sewer Collapse

A Chicago Department of Water Management crew was on Logan Boulevard today fixing a sewer collapse in the bike lane

---------------------------

What a joke this is.

Barricades not placed properly and then look at the second pic. As the commenter points out. There's a huge semi that is parked facing the wrong direction with the entire bike lane blocked.

And apparently from the comments this is a regular occurrence.

More city lawsuits waiting to happen.

Actually looking at the state the street is in and where that semi is parked I'm a bit surprised the semi didn't fall in the sewer.

Wait. The problem is too many parking spots at a beautiful section of the lakefront (beach, dog park, picnic areas) , as opposed to not enough police presence or a strategy for early intervention? Anyone near Montrose Beach as early as 6pm could tell "something" was going on, because the exit was solid out into Lake Shore Drive with an unbelievable amount of cars. The incident did not occur until about 7:30 pm. I'm not excusing the crazy people that are ruining our lakefront, but there were also many innocent families caught in the middle of this mess who were parked in those lots and just out enjoying a beautiful summer day in one of the last free spaces in Chicago.

More proof of what we all know, he is a pussy puppet. Plain and simple he is just another political spin doctor that has no useful purpose to anyone with a brain.

I have been to one of these bullshit press conferences, and as you mentioned "don't touch the guns." Not because they are evidence or unsafe, but because they are months if not years old and the inventory slips state that information. Double arms distance at all times. Guns, Guns, Guns, and more Guns, those are the problems in this city and not the savage underclass that has written their own ticket for years. The bullshit "Revs" getting their way and leading the charge with frivolous accusations and lawsuits by so many bottom feeding scum this city has crumbled. Every gun recovered had an owner/operator and only they can be responsible for the actions of that otherwise inanimate object.

Garry is just one more fraud among many and an errand boy for the democratic party.

Those that continue to believe the bullshit spun by media and political outlets are just uneducated pawns.

The only answer to Chicago's violence is to ban gun ownership and then go on and ban large knives. Get rid of guns through confiscation and buy backs. The same for large knives. It has worked in England, and are just common sense.

The alderman may have a point regarding the parking lots. Available parking lots encourage travel by private vehicle. This is harder to control than public transportion. We must do everything to encourage public transportation use, and discourage private automobiles. The bottom line the City need much tighter control over its citizens.

The jig is up and the mayor's intentional negligence of the public's safety is showing more with each passing weekend. Violence which was commonplace only to the "bad areas" has now permeated zip codes of the highest residential tax paying bases in the city. I like to think there's remnants of a decent human being you can dust off and revive. Demand they hire more cops, bring back strategies that worked and then, even if backfires and it gets ugly with Rahm, WRITE A TELL-ALL BOOK ABOUT IT. Detail how when you first arrived in Chgo you were in there w the troops at NATO but then politics beat you down. This is a chance to both restore your reputation and make a killing writing a book. GARRY: Okay boss, whatever you say.

RAHM: You know this is a critical time for me. I can't have the media thinking I don't know how to run a police dept.

GARRY: But wait boss, aren't I in control of the Police Dept? Isn't that my job?

RAHM: Ha ha ha ha!!!!! You still don't get it do you?! I fucking am God, bitch. I control everything. People worship me and they NEED me. If they don't know that already, they will soon enough. I just need more time to convince them. They will love me and I will be important. Now go practice in the mirror. Say it over and over, "We have a gun problem, we don't have a people problem."

SCC YOU have failed to think like a Modern Democrat. All good Democrats with any power feel peasants should use Public Transportation, while they ride in Government provided limousines. Long, long ago, before Rahm hung his Tu-Tu in Ravenswood, and before McNumbnuts could find "Anglewood" on a map, the over 20 miles of Chicago Lakefront was patrolled by something called Summer Mobile. Summer Mobile was a force of CPD officers who volunteered or were selected to work on the Lakefront for the entire summer. And before that there was actually a Chgo. Park District Police Force, disbanded by O.W. Wilson. Today there are no officers to spare for Summer Mobile, yet we still have over 20 miles of Lake Front. Ask Tactical Officers about VRE, because some of the Tact. officers from 019 were assigned to other Districts the night of the fiasco. The Lakefront from Montrose to Foster has become a 3rd World haven and cannot be policed by the adjacent Districts who are tied to District Policing issues. McNumbnuts sold the City on the idea of disbanding City-Wide Units because of the SOS scandal, and he felt that this would be his Original Idea. Well he failed! And the Lakefront is a disaster waiting to happen because it is out of control and not policed. Baby "G"

Here's a suggestion: Take your family to the Summer Concert series featuring the Park Ridge Symphony at 8:00 PM on Friday nights in Hodges Park (one hundred feet from the entrance to the Park Ridge Police Department-oh, and it's free). Pay a few bucks at Gillson Beach in Wilmette to sit on the cleanest sand beach on the lakefront, walk past beautiful dunes and a quaint harbor area. Go fish, bicycle, cross country ski, and picnic at Lake Defiance in Moraine Hills State Park 45 minutes northwest of Chicago. Start having fun outside of Chicago and you will never look back. And you'll never be sitting around with your thumb in your ass waiting for a beat car to come and give you a report...

Let's keep in mind that with the elimination of Summer Mobile there are a minimum number of primarily bike officers patrolling the lakefront. In 019, with most of the busiest and most congested beaches and lakefront parks in the city, there are on average, maybe 8 officers on patrol from Fullerton to Lawrence. That's a 2-man park car and 6 guys on bikes to handle maybe 25,000 people. Do you see something wrong here?

Ever since a group of feral savage government free loading pants sagging "inner city youth" kicked my tackle and lunch cooler into the lake last year and took off running. I didn't bother calling the police or making a report (if it isn't reported it never happened) because I figure it was futile as I also figure being white with a job who obeys the law is a demographic that is frowned upon in this city. Thank you, liberals. You got the city you wanted.

How about more police, better tactics, non lethal instruments ( L rad), and staying off our fucking ass. Let us do our job and give us the resources to do it. The alderman want police and park dept to come up with something. Since when is it the fucking police's job to come up with parking solutions? This dept and city is fucked. Our job is to prevent/react to crime. THAT SHOULD BE IT! If you want us to be firemen, teachers, therapists, streets and san, baby sitters, logistic coordinators, etc. we are the only city department that requires any sort of education, for hire or advancement.

Here's an idea . No vehicles without a Chicago vehicle sticker allowed at any Chicago park or on the lake front .
Vehicles without city vehicle will be ticketed and towed .
Cheaper than police , post signs at entrance ad let the private sector ticket and two vehicles .

Too many parking spaces! I'm guessing it is the number of "people" that these cars are bringing that is the problem, TOO MANY PEOPLE.

Well would that be the argument for the Taste of Chicago? Don't come, too many people, how 'bout for Navy Pier, the restaurants, the movies & plays and of course the shopping.

Stay home, don't come to Chicago we don't want your $. Rather than generalize all the "people", just lock up the bad ones for GOOD. When you do a crime that is it, not one of many chances. Judges enforce the law.

Holy shit, here is video of wife of cop murderer in
Jersey City claiming her husband should of shot more
Cops. No video better articulates the savages our police and first responders face every minute on the job.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIqC7HjeP9g&sns=em

-Earlier in the week in one of the most dangerous parts of Jersey City, 27-year-old Lawrence Campbell, a career criminal who was already wanted by police for a recent homicide, decided to rob a Walgreens pharmacy.

-At 4:AM, Campbell and an accomplice enter the Walgreens, assault the store's armed security guard, and snatch his gun.

-Instead of fleeing the scene, Campbell tells witnesses to "watch the news later" because he was "going to be famous." Campbell hangs around the Walgreens for four minutes, waiting for the police.

-When the first police car arrives, in the passenger seat was 23 year old Melvin Santiago, a rookie cop with 7 months on the job.

-Before Santiago can even open the car door, Campbell runs right up to the car, and shoots Santiago in the head through the passenger window with the security guard's gun, killing him instantly. Santiago's partner and other responding officers then kill Campbell in a shootout.

-News 12 is the regional Cablevision run news network. One of their reporters, Sean Bergin, does the embedded follow-up, during which he interviewed Campbell's "wife" (she and Campbell have a child in common) who lamented that her husband had not killed more cops during the gunfight. Make sure to watch until the very end... it's his last sentence that landed the reporter in hot water with his bosses. He has currently been suspended as News 12 decides whether to fire him. (I apologize for the low quality, but News 12 deleted the original report from their website, and this is all I could find.)

Once upon a time a long time ago, there was an organization called the Chicago Police Department. They were the police, they locked people up, they kept bad people from taking over the lakefront, cleared them off street corners and provided a safe feeling for the people who lived in the city, known as residents, but now referred to as subjects of the king. There was even a unit formed every spring that was solely responsible for the lakefront. That was the Summer Mobile Force. About 300 or so officers assigned to the lakefront from Rogers park all the way to Indiana along the lake. They stopped the gangbangers from bringing in beer, booze and locked them up too. And get this they kept the traffic under control at the lakefront and even closed it up at 1100 pm. This was an effective unit for its purpose and when summer was over the officers returned to their districts. That was when we had officers to utilize for a unit such as summer mobile. When summer mobile was gone for good the problems started and manifest themselves into what we experienced Sunday night. The sad thing is more is to come but the media keeps lying and promoting Rahms failed policies. So people of chicago you got coming what you got coming compliments of Rahm, enjoy........

Wayward motherfucker that no adult in his life has ever told him "No!"

And we're reaping a maelstrom because of it...

No, but we see deranged parolees with hammers attacking older women from behind in broad daylight, and hundreds of wild flashmobbers motherf__ing people and spitting on them and knocking them off their bikes and snatching phones and busting up fancy stores and then swarming the turnstiles for free rides home.

I know. We'll extend the Red Line out to Roseland to increase the catchment area of this population -- and spend millions on "art" for the stations besides.

So they'll run screaming past a mural...

7/15/2014 04:11:00 AM

Heh...
Art?

Art infers some kind of desire and appreciation for culture, beautiful things and learning...

This "Art" thing the usual coterie of tax payer subsidized, fast talking, tight pants wearing, "public space engineering" bojank artistes are lined up to make a fast and greasy buck on?

Set out bait and let these bastards take it back to that dark place they all dwell in...

>Pfff!<
Art? For the shit-birds to do their business on.
Right?

Pay US the fucking money...
We'll come up with something cheap, cheerful and full of the energy that is Chicago.

Posters...

A purple suede pimp boot wedged firmly in a large pile of dog shit in a trash strewn vacant lot...

Hang THAT on the wall... The savages may stop and genuflect a moment before slapping some poor out of
town slob in the eye for their iPhone.

Extending the Red Line?

That'll be like turning on the taps and having shit come spraying out.

The Downtowners and Gold Coasters will be ankle deep in it screaming, crying and dancing trying to keep the stuff out of their Blaniks and Birkenstocks.

"EEEEEYAAAHHH! >splat-splash-squirt!< Why aren't you cops doing something!"

Protect yourselves and then when there are bodies on the ground to be picked up and we grab the videos before Rahm can be sweep them away then Gary and Rahm will go nuclear.

IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS.

Then maybe the media will ask them what have you been doing with the Chicago Police Department manpower?

Stay Safe. It has a historic fact that only after major riots that we have gotten significantly better deals in raises, contracts and working conditions.

It is indeed the truth, but not the whole truth. I am black and no , I am not a police officer. I am also not picking a side when it comes to the subject of relations between police officers and the "black community" ( quoted because we are not one, we all do not think the same, behave the same, and etc.) and I would hope I would not receive any bias comments from my coming opinionated statements, as I too will try not to sound bias.

Police officers first and foremost are humans. Not one police officer in the great country of America can tell me 100% of officers are are perfect. Sometimes police officers do things that are blatantly over the top or, or people feel it may be over the top. Mostly to criminals, so family and friends of the criminal in the community start to dislike police, and sometimes to seemingly innocent people, which in return makes others dislike the police. It does infact happen.

Minorities also come in to contact for what ever reason with police officers more, so sometimes "shit happens". When that "shit happens" to the wrong people, or who people believe it shouldn't have happened to, people get angry, plain and simple. I remember in the 90s, around the time of the Rodney King riots, you had people talking about America was "waking up" to the "wrong doings" police have been dealing in minority communities for years. It also stems far back to Jim Crow days. A nine times out of ten 100% white police force and the black/minority residents wouldn't have been the best of friends.

Not having a father is partially correct as I've stated. It's likely you'd have no respect for authority when the only authority you had you stopped taking orders from by the time you were 14 or 15 (mom, grandmother , etc.) but of course the reporter would come under fire because the statement makes the assumption that all black men do not take care of their kids. "Police brutality" and a feel of lack of respect causes part of the rift and people simply being bred to not like the police since birth. The. 60s was the start of the "fight the system " movement and that was followed by people of all colors.

Downfall of 011 District.

011 used to be a great place to work as it always had great PO's and great bosses. I can look back and pinpoint an arrival of an individual who began the sinking of 011. It was the arrival of none other than teh legendary Lt JA. He arrived on 3rd watch and completley destroyed moral. He then went to 2nd watch and destroyed that watch with his bizzare management style. He chased out numerous sgts who simply had enough of his nonsense. He then began to harrass numerous PO's with threats and CR's over bullshit. He was a bully boss to all and got off and berating his subordinates in front of their colleagues. Well Glenn evans came to the District and gave his a dose of the bullying that he dished out. What did JA do? He ran out of a meeting and promplty bid out to 008 like a skarred lil boy.

011 is doomed with the new captain, heh clueless new Lt's and the new screwball sgts.

Glad I am no longer there to witness the nonsense.

7/15/2014 01:00:00 AM

First off, there should NOT be any bike lanes on Logan Boulevard. That street has parallel one-lane streets to each side of the boulevard which could, and clearly SHOULD, be used for bicycle traffic only.

With the idiot alderman allowing parking ON the boulevard all kinds of goofy hours and various days, driving a car on the boulevard has become a dangerous game of dodge 'em. Adding bicycles to that mix is nothing short of criminal.

The lake front park is for the people that live along the lake front. If people want to visit a park they can go the one near their home. That simple. Or just install paid parking and outsource the business of collecting the parking fees, with the City enforcing the parking meter violations.

7/15/2014 12:14:00 AM

The lake front park is for everyone, you pompous ass.

Gary, I hope you read this. You are a pussy. I dont care what you did when you were the police but now you are just a pussy because you wont stand up to the little prick mayor. Demand him for more coppers and to bring back special units, if he wont then walk away with your head held high knowing you tried, but being neck deep in his ass and keeping this status quo aint working. NOBODY cares about shithead bangers killing eachother in the hood, they always have, always will, but when lakefont, downtown and neighborhoods where these mutts dont come from are (ya know, taxpaying areas!) being lost to them, something has to happen.
Good call from they XO ordering coppers out of the park when there was no cavalry coming, though would have loved to see mounted come in swinging at anything that moved. Not worth getting hurt for these mutts, let them tear eathother apart, sort out the bodies later, and make sure it is recorded. Sooner or later the libs that voted for Rahm will wake up and demand action.

OT; when i retired I was given a form that informed me that I could get another retirement star made (not the new stars) but like the one i came on the job with in 1982, all I had to do was send a money order made out to (V.H. Blackinton and co) to the human resources division in care of a Ms M Meyer which I did. That was 3 months ago, still no star, when i called and ask about the star I was told " there are retired officers waiting longer than you". this department is still fu$$ing with us even after we have served and retired.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

I ordered one of those stars too. Ms. Meyer could not have been more helpful. She said it could take a month and it did, 5 weeks in fact. I'm going to bet that the problem is at Blackington.

Don't let the small shit bother you. Take a nap. Have a beer. The star will get there....

the alderman is actually right about this one...

if you don't go to the lake, and most coppers don't unless they're in uniform, then you don't realize how late the city is in changing the way the lakefront is managed.

The park is more accommodating to vehicle traffic than pedestrian. Meanwhile most parking is still free and traffic turns to gridlock early and no one directs the flow until it's too late.

Montrose and Lawrence should be inbound only through a gate for a small entrance fee (for vehicles) and Wilson and Foster should be exit only, also through gates.

The park would still be free to those entering on foot or on bicycles.

A city this big touting 30 miles of lakefront doesn't do nearly enough to manage the lakefront, and it shows and it's embarrassing.

A lakefront unit ought to be standard. It should be equipped with its own wagons, squads, mini-stations, temporary detention facilities, papv's, bicycles, traffic management, foot teams, and strict enforcement of large gatherings.

By now the charade of no alcohol should be replaced with daily permits issued at kiosks for those over 21 and everyone should be made aware that the permit must be presented on demand to officers requesting proof of legal drinking age. Anyone without a permit will have their alcohol confiscated, issued the ANOV, and made to leave.

Our lakefront is deteriorating and looks like an afterthought in some spots totally a no man's land. All main vehicle entrances should not only have gates (real ones, not the rusted broken hazards), but should also have large digital overhead signs with the simple display flashing "OPEN" or "CLOSED."
This alone would stop the damn traffic at 11:00pm from continuing to attempt entry.

Next to crowd control, the second main concern is making sure vehicles begin the "sweep" just prior to closing, so loudspeakers and flashing lights that work in squads would be helpful.

The park district is partially to blame for sneaking their own bent rules onto montrose with recent loud concerts and drinking permitted in their own little clouted area.

also, stop with the bullshit so-called park district "security." Disband that ghost payroll scam and use the budget for real police. not the occasional roving polo-wearing paid hand waver that wants to direct your attention to something he should be doing.

He introduced himself to the Watch and sympathized with them by calling them cowards for not wearing their name tags. Better smarten up, JA is here now.

7/15/2014 05:37:00 PM

I don't know what you're smoking, but it's not legal here. Also tired of excuses for bad behavior. Maybe if there two parent families and less drug use in your community...yeah that will happen when monkeys fly outta my ass.

It was the Sgt supervising the lakefront bikes that made that call and it was the right one since the detail, maybe 5 officers, was completely surrounded and being pelted with rocks and bottles. The XO was even working but sitting at home thanking God he wasn't there because operationally he is clueless. The Cmdr stood around in C.D. glued to his blackberry. He was also clueless. This website, mainly the commenters make excuse after excuse for police officers all the time. PO's can do no wrong here. Anyone not smoking "what I'm smoking" knows that's far from the truth. Hell RightWingNews.com exposes that fact very often. I see it will never resonate in most of America that aside from the stated fact that I clearly agreed with, police misconduct is also a strong factor in minority neighborhoods. But of course here is not the place to sound of strong opinions. You can only be written off as "making excuses" from people who can't let go of their bias ways.

Also, not once did I even make an excuse for bad behavior. One Simply not liking the police is not bad behavior nor illegal. It is in fact prejudice and in bad taste, but not bad behavior. Did you even read my post?

That explains a lot. Ms. Meyer made a habit of calling service providers to check on the status of orders etc. The new generation of "I'm not at all grateful to have this job" workers will just wait and wait and wait until someone bitches enough for them to make a call. Every month long time civilian workers who kept the administrative wheels of the department turning are retiring. The new ones just fill the chairs, surf the internet shop online until pushed to action. Also in times gone by there were PO"s in some of those spots. And I mean people who cared about other police. Austin would probably shit her pants for starters, Burnett would have a panic attack if told to actually go out and write Parkers or ANOV's and I think Tunney would resign if he had to do more than kiss ass or occasionally leave the kitchen of Ann Sathers for a Council or Committee meeting.
