Like Clockwork

The robbery on the Orange Line is falling perfectly within McCompStat's script:
  • high profile event occurs;
  • powers-that-be acknowledge the brazen event;
  • counter with statistics that crime is really down
And right on schedule:
  • Orange Line rider Jennifer Carter said she’s been frightened ever since she heard two armed men robbed a train car on that line earlier this week.

Kathleen O’Donnell has instructed her teenage daughter to ride with friends and to keep her eyes open.

But Luis Gaspar isn’t worried about more crime on the train line, which goes from the Loop to Midway Airport.

“It’s not really frequent on the Orange Line,” he said. “This is uncommon.”

    Crime data shows just that.

In the past 12 months, compared to the 12 months before that, overall crime on trains and at stations has been down on the Orange Line south of Roosevelt Road, according to Chicago Police Department data.
We're sure that's a great comfort to the riders who had a gun stuck in their faces along with the woman who got pistol-whipped. And the media (aside from Chicago Magazine) just accepts these numbers at face value despite knowing that the CPD numbers are pretty much pulled out of someone's ass.

We don't really care what they think McLiarLiarPantsOnFire says the numbers were last year. This year, two assholes climbed on a train and stuck it up between stations. And why did they feel so safe doing it? Because they rode the trains for a few hours, figured out where the cops weren't and pulled off the brazen holdup. No cops, no heat, no danger to them. Great system.

Huge contract violations by 3w Lt. In 011. She is denying personal days but approving comp time for other officers who have "sufficient activity". I feel really bad for the officers on that watch who have to deal with her. The XO in 011 is also about to go down for the same thing he did in 023. He again has lists of officers on his personal computer with all of their stats and is approving time due based on activity again. Get out while you can or if you did don't come back. See the pattern, the spin?

Flint may be Michigan’s second city to plunge into bankruptcy unless retirees accept cuts in health benefits that threaten to unravel a balanced budget. As Crain's Detroit reports, Emergency Manager Darnell Earley (Flint’s third emergency leader since it was placed under state control in 2011) warned "If we have no ability to mitigate the cost of retiree health care, that’s going to make it very difficult for the city to remain financially stable over the next few years." As Eric Scorsone notes, "Flint's at the forefront, but a lot of cities are on the same train, and that train is headed for the cliff."

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-07-19/first-detroit-now-flint-warns-bankruptcy-train-headed-cliff

Of course our pensions are already being cut via the inflation tool -- so any other concessions are the icing on the cake.

Using substandard cost of living increases that do not match reality the inflation caused by the quantitative easing money printing decreases our buying power. That's a pension cut.

The stupidity of the people burns.

Walking around bragging that by the time they retire they will have "X" million dollars. OH yeah, and they can live off the interest on that money.

That was the mindset of many boomers only to have their savings wiped out first by the housing bubble and then by the interest rate cuts.

Corporations are fleeing overseas because they know what's coming.

Here are a couple of facts to consider: 1. Many passengers on the Orange Line and Blue Line are out of town passengers. When they are victimized they do not report the crime because they know they will not be back for court. 2. The Federally funded Special Employment officers outnumber the regular number of officers assigned to CTA on any given Watch. However, with a total disregard for the intent of the federal money to CTA, Special Employment are being assigned to routes adjacent to the "Boxes". This Bait and Switch increases police presence in the High Crime Democrat Ghetto Areas, but deprives CTA of coverage. Not to Worry, the cameras will catch the offenders, and at some point we will have a video of a sexual assault or murder. But Rahm's Boyz were able to spin an Impeachment so a spin on crime will be easy.

I work CTA Special employment for many years now and on all watches!

I have rarely, if ever seen any Police Officers assigned to patrol the Orange line, from downtown to Midway Airport!

I always thought that is reckless and stupid not to assign Officers on the Orange Line, since it is a busy line with alot of Midway Airport passengers on that line carrying lots of money in their pockets to go on their trips, myself included sometimes going to Las Vegas! $$$

I'm surprised it hasn't happen more often! Then again, I'm NOT a boss just a lowly peon blue shirt officer!

Yet, there are multiple units assigned to Red Line South!

This is unacceptable! Every train line should have a minimum of two Police Officers dedicated for each color line and more during rush hour!

This robbery happened at rush hour, just sickening! Then you can't even protect yourself with a weapon even though criminals can give two shits about law and those stupid no guns signs posted!

How well those no guns sign helped stop these thugs? NOT!

Was a holiday involved? DOH is strictly by seniority, only furlos or furlo extensions take precedence.
Contrary to popular belief, yes, supervisors can use activity as the basis for granting time due. There's nothing in the contract against it. Its not gonna get people to work for you, but it is legal.

The same is true for overtime. Management is free to pass it out as it would like. For 25 years I've heard goofs toss seniority around like it is a golden rule. The truth is seniority comes into play in very limited bargaining issues. Time on the job is almost universally the lazy man's defense.

Dear media dopes

I work closely on stats and guess what someone followed off the train and robbed in front of the station is not counted as a CTA crime.

And if you are waiting for a bus that is not counted either,

And sometimes if you are on a platform the location is inputted incorrectly.

So crime is down when 5 thugs surround you and request to borrow your purse and then ask if they can have your phone that is a theft.

Huge contract violations by 3w Lt. In 011.

You should see the contract violations in 019. The Cmdr's pet Sgt AH and his minions get unlimited overtime for details and such that are related to Wrigley without regard to seniority. The Cmdr puts people on whatever watch he wants without deference to the number of management spots. No wonder some of you guys are bitching about the parking. EV and AH run 019 like it's a personal fiefdom. Someone from FOP and PBPA care to chime in?

I have heard so much whining and complaining from people except when it is them getting favored treatment. Then they keep quiet.

What the hell difference does it make what someone else gets if it doesn't hurt you? Did you not know what this City was like before you got hired? Did you think this was Mayberry?

Hey, news flash, it is not all legit and will not ever be legit. But the paychecks do not bounce and all in all it s not that bad.

Remember what Jody Weiss said, "If I gave them a gold bar, they would complain about how heavy it was."

This came out July 19:

The US Sentencing Commission Friday voted unanimously to make previously agreed upon federal drug sentencing reductions retroactive. That means tens of thousands of federal drug prisoners could see sentence cuts beginning in November 2015.

The move comes after the Commission's April decision to amend federal sentencing guidelines by lowering base offense levels in the guidelines' Drug Quantity Table across all drug types, which should lead to lower sentences for most federal drug offenders. Today's vote means that sentencing judges can extend that reduction to people currently serving drug sentences.

I feel really bad for the officers on that watch who have to deal with her. The XO in 011 is also about to go down for the same thing he did in 023. He again has lists of officers on his personal computer with all of their stats and is approving time due based on activity again. Get out while you can or if you did don't come back. True. But only extensions from days off before your segment til days off right after segment are guaranteed. Not all your extension days. Any days outside of those boundaries are not guaranteed and can be denied due to manpower

Not so. The violations are only in your mind. And, I think the lieutenant is doing the right thing. The extra days off go to the workers, not to the sick, lame or lazy.

Even the workers get fucked with by the xo. 011 ... I use to love coming to work and locking mother fuckers up. Now I dread coming to work in 011. These bosses even fuck with the workers.

Did somebody forget that they prohibited concealed carry on CTA? I smell a lawsuit against this city that denied citizens a constitutionally protected RIGHT to keep and bear arms for precisely this sort of situation.

They may attempt to lie and feed their false numbers to the public, but they know that they are on unsound legal ground here.

Who says it didn't hurt the po's complaining. If its a violation of the contract,it should not be allowed. Appears FOP is so weak they do nothing. Most DC's set how many po's on each watch, then after the selection, do as they please and put po's with less time on days. The FOP doesn't address this at all.

Investigator Steve Chapman has a nationally syndicated article out that shows Chicago only had a moderate crime problem, and that it's crime and murder rate are drastically lower than 20 years ago. Actually, as large cities go he says Chicago only rates 19th in the nation for severity of crime. It's all due to leadership at the top by politicians and police leadership.

Okay, I'm ignorant here, but the Trib story says that these guys were riding the train for several hours before they pulled the robberies. Doesn't the CTA have personnel other than police to monitor things, and wouldn't someone question why two guys would be riding around for hours?

Of course, the Trib also says that the CAMERAS are sure to catch these two! So I guess the next time I visit Chicago, I'll bring my CAMERA in case I become a crime victim.

All this talk about our shortage of police on CTA is on point. Another thing I always think about is how susceptible our transit is to a terrorist attack. You see police at subway stops and on them in NYC. What do we get in Chicago?Securitas! We have Securitas to save us!! I see police on very rare occasions at CTA stops or on trains.

I'm so incredibly tired of the non-contributing members of society causing nothing but problems and eating up the police manpower.

You couldn't be more wrong. So the p.o. with 2 yrs on puts their DOH slip in for thanksgiving or x-mas in June, and the p.o. with 27 years puts it in a few weeks ahead of the date, and they don't get the day?! You better go read your contract. M.R. in old 019 tried that argument until the union guy from 023 came in and addressed the roll calls and put M.R. on the spot. Everything is by seniority, sans furlough extensions.

Not sure who is right on this one. Under the contract Section 23.7 it states most senior officer will be given the option to WORK the holiday. That said, I can't locate anyplace in the contract that says holidays are by seniority to be off. Not taking saides and it only seems right that the most senior officers would be given a choice to work or not work, just cant locate it in the contract

It's just like locking up bustouts downtown. You weren't locking up a beggar shaking a cup. You locked up intimidaters who would make people go to cash stations and withdraw money, take them into stores and make (victims) buy stuff they could sell because they were "homeless". These offenders were predators that knew how to committ "robberies" without saying the magic words. Don't judge an arrest without knowing the offender.

Give me a break. Mass Transit is a waste of resources. Whenever there is a bus or train disturbance, no one from that unit is never available. It's one of those retirement spots, but the only problem with that is that most of the guys in the unit aren't even close to retirement. DOG unit, CTA checks are worth about as much as public school diplomas. Just ask Skokal
