This is Bold, but Crime is Down!

No word on the massive shortage of officers at Mass Transit, but hey, this has to be a coincidence:
  • Two armed men robbed multiple passengers on an Orange Line CTA train heading into downtown Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The robbery happened at 4:13 p.m. as the train traveled between the Halsted and Roosevelt stations, said Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Two armed suspects took various items from multiple riders, Zala said. No one was in custody.

According to a police source, one of the suspects pulled out a blue steel revolver. The other yelled at riders to give him their belongings, then began collecting items from riders and putting them in a black backpack, as the man with the revolver pointed the gun at the victims.
Evidently, these two rode the train for hours prior to the holdup. We certainly hope that when they are apprehended, Rahm sits them down and tells them that they must have missed the signs saying, "No Guns!" on the CTA.

"...they must have missed the signs saying, "No Guns!" on the CTA."

As you know, those signs only apply to people who LEGALLY carry a concealed firearm.

Those that carry unlawfully can't even be charged with violating those signs.

It's unbelievable to think that people actually believe that a sign will prevent bad people, intent on doing bad things, from doing those things.

So....the criminal robbers can carry guns on the CTA but the law-abiding citizens can not?

How nice. Must provide a safe working environment for the thuggies of our city.

Two comments: Fortunately the shortage of CTA officers can be made up by temporary use of CPD officers.

It is a good thing making the buses and trains gun free zones. By keeping guns off, there are no accidental discharges etc.

Shouldn't Beretta be filing a lawsuit for using an image of a 92 on every business that uses it on their doorway as well as the CTA?

That is clear copyright infringement AND other corporations like DISNEY sue if others try to use their images - like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck on Birthday cakes.

Wouldn't that be a bitch if all those who slapped up those "No Beretta" signs were sued for using an image without written consent?

Hey - if Disney does it for their images..... (and YES, they do)

Bluing is the process that keeps the gun from rusting and then gives a unique color to the metal, called blued steel.

The only coverage that the Orange line receives is a fixed post at Midway. All Mass Transit Tact teams are assigned to 3 Red line fixed posts Friday - Sunday. The system is left wide open. You would need a couple of hundred more people assigned to the unit to even begin to cover the lines.

I am certainly glad that our politicians decided to ban guns from the CTA. It makes every stick up man feel safe. Plus, not a cop in sight either on the trains or in the stations. But, no worries, the CTA says that there were only 483 crimes reported during the first 3 months of this year, to include only 83 robberies. Not much comfort for those 83 people who had the shit scared out of them. And, cameras are not a deterrent to crime as backed up by research and known by every cop. However, cameras do help to catch people. We need more police in general and more police on the CTA platforms and trains.

It refers to the color. Most of the hand guns are either black or silver, sometimes with a blueish tinge to it (depending on which way the light hits it) and ranging from a medium to dark hue. I guess someone thought "blue steel" sounded way more ominous than dark silver...

"GIVE US BACK OUR RED-LIGHT CAMERA FINES"

Red light cameras tag thousands for undeserved tickets

Analysis of 4 million violations recorded since 2007 reveals suspicious patterns at dozens of intersections, raises questions about system's management

***

A 10-month Tribune investigation documented more than 13,000 (edit at $100/pop that's what..$1.3 MILLION?) questionable tickets at 12 intersections that experienced the most striking spikes; similar patterns emerged at dozens of other intersections responsible for tens of thousands more tickets. Among the key findings:

Cameras that for years generated just a few tickets daily suddenly caught dozens of drivers a day. One camera near the United Center rocketed from generating one ticket per day to 56 per day for a two-week period last summer before mysteriously dropping back to normal.

Tickets for so-called rolling right turns on red shot up during some of the most dramatic spikes, suggesting an unannounced change in enforcement. One North Side camera generated only a dozen tickets for rolling rights out of 100 total tickets in the entire second half of 2011. Then, over a 12-day spike, it spewed 563 tickets — 560 of them for rolling rights.

Many of the spikes were marked by periods immediately before or after when no tickets were issued — downtimes suggesting human intervention that should have been documented. City officials said they cannot explain the absence of such records..

KABOOM!!!

How about this middle finger to the law corporation??

Corporate inversion: Walgreens plans move to Switzerland to escape U.S. taxes

The CtW Investment Group, which represents union pension funds holding $250bn (£146bn) in investments, has written to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) asking them to investigate an apparent violation of a rule designed to prevent disclosure of material inside information to favoured groups.

According to the complaint, Walgreens executives held private meetings with analysts and hedge funds in which they discussed potentially restructuring the company’s planned Alliance Boots acquisition to allow for a so-called tax inversion that would allow it to move its headquarters and escape the US’s far higher corporate tax rate.

Walgreen is reportedly considering the inversion to lower its tax rate in a move that Barclays analysts have estimated would save the company $783m in the first year after the inversion. The move comes amid a growing political row over inversions in Washington sparked by drug firm Pfizer’s ultimately unsuccessful bid for the UK’s AstraZeneca and AbbVie’s current bid for the UK’s Shire.

====================================

The corporate run media calls it a tax inversion in order to obfuscate the fact that it's a tax doge.

Because if you call it a tax dodge it would conjure up certain images in the hearts and minds of taxpayers with lower reading comprehension.

A tax inversion? Wut's that?

Extortion for jobs. Watch the politicians scramble under the guise of "saving us", creating jobs for us, as the corporate welfare money changes hands.

AbbVie insists Shire deal will not lead to job cuts in Chicago area

Chicago-area AbbVie Inc. employees worried about job security after the pharmaceutical firm’s planned $55 billion merger with fellow drug maker Shire PLC have been told

That’s the same signal employees at Aon PLC were sent more than two years ago when the insurance brokerage company announced plans to move its headquarters from Chicago to London.

North Chicago-based AbbVie plans to relocate the new company’s corporate headquarters to the British Island of Jersey, where Shire is based, to take advantage of tax benefits if shareholders and regulators approve the deal.

Question for the police: what is a "blue steel handgun?" I've seen pistols described like this for years living here. Is it a brand or a color of metal?

Never heard of Google, huh?

Both assholes wearing the uniform of the day...white tees, black or blue jeans. Ditch the jackets and off they go.

Don't these idiots watch the news, ever? Haven't they ever seen video footage from those cameras?

If those two aren't in custody yet, they better be hoping they don't have any enemies in the hood...one phone call and bye-bye hood, hello penitentiary!

Oh, I forgot....probation or home monitoring.

So we are blaming the police for this robbery and not the assholes who did this? There aren't any repercussions for criminals to fear. When they are caught either the court system, a pro gang judge, prison and parole boards will let them go. Why do you all constantly beat up on each other and units? The whole police department is undermanned. You are like children.....not it!

Criminals are NEVER to be blamed for some odd reason. People Blame the police , parents, teachers, Obama , Bush, who ever. But never the criminal. I don't care what or how a victim did something, the criminal is the only one who did something wrong. If you want to use the argument of "it could and SHOULD have been prevented", then yeah, the police should have of course been there. That simply doesn't not change the fact that it happened though. The criminals were the only wrong-doers here

All of you who are tourists in Chicago or coming here on business...do not under any circumstances use public transportation. You rent a car with a GPS and use that to get around. Chicago is not a safe city.

I think most of you are missing the point of this robbery. These guys were willing to commit major felonies for essentially small amounts of money. What they took could not pay for a pair Air Jordans.

Instead, it demonstrates the capability to do anything. This "robbery" could've easily ended up as a series of rapes or a mass execution, given the logic behind the attack in the first place.

You better carry a gun on the train. You can waffle on whether shooting someone over a robbery is justifiable. But when they start executing people, well, you better have that gun.

Sgt.'s DB & EP run the 3rd watch ANOV mission team's. Should be cleared up in no time. As long as it doesn't take more than 4 or 5 hours.
