Cop Injured in Rollover

North side:
  • A Chicago police officer was injured when her police car flipped over on the North Side Monday afternoon.

The accident happened about 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Montrose and Ashland avenues, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

The officer was pinned in and paramedics got her out, said Langford.

Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said the officer was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
This is the vehicle (picture via the Tribune):

A speedy recovery wished to the injured officer.

I see this and start to call right away to see who it was and how the officer is and if I can do anything. Then I remember I am retiredand it is into 3rd watch and they probably don't remember me. I worked 2nd watch in 019. The job is impossible to forget, some things trigger the same instinctive behavior.

Stay safe officers.

Last I heard she was sitting up in bed at the Hospital and was going to be kept overnight as a precaution.. The report said she was in serious condition. I observed no visible injuries at the scene and I don't believe she lost consciousness at anytime. Strangely enough CFD is quoted a having extracted her from the veh. I had a citizen who walked up to me after the incident claiming to have dragged her from the veh. and request that I send his best wishes along. Fortunately, she was wearing her seatbelt! I was probably the 5th or 6th car on the scene and she was laying on the ground just outside the vehicle while fire was stuck in traffic at Damen and Montrose.

More nonsense

Contract Facts from Lodge 7 President Angelo

Due to misinformation it has become necessary to share accurate information. Please share this email with your coworkers.

Dispelling More Rumors About the Tentative Contract Agreement– The Lodge is worried about the Contract being ratified which is obvious by the way they are working on getting the information out, something must be wrong with the tentative agreement.

Fact – The Lodge is working to get out CORRECT and FACTUAL INFORMATION. The following reasons explain why so much effort is being spent on the new Contract:There is a segment (albeit a minority from what we are hearing) that are working web sites, blogs and roll calls to misinform anyone who will listen. We believe negativity needs to be addressed; you deserve the TRUTH. The Lodge recently learned there are teams who have split the 24-hour day to blast the electronic media with similar messaging intended to sway support for the Contract. We worked too hard to have decisions based on intentionally spread bad information;you deserve the TRUTH.Working hard to get accurate messages out is not a sign of Lodge desperation. Nothing should be read into the attempt to communicate with the Membership, other than us following through with our promise to be up front with each and every one of you so that you are armed with the facts, not fiction; you deserve the TRUTH.

We ask you understand the Tentative Agreement before voting. Feel free to call the FOP with questions and review the October newsletter, explaining the Tentative Agreement in more detail.

Don't forget to vote and mail back your ballot before October 14, 2014 to ensure it arrives prior to October 17, when the votes will be counted.

I promise to continue to work hard for you, and wish to keep you informed. Please feel free to share this message and future updates with your friends and family.

++++++++++++++++
That Prick is one reason why I had to leave 019, he stays down on "oh squad, my tires are low on air"... "or my seatbelt doesn't seem to be retracting properly" etc etc (everyday it's new BS) then dispatch ask for his status and he does the "oh squad, I cleared an hour ago"!
He once got a simple DOA at hospital, stayed down on it for 4 hours and then call for a relief, and played dumb that he wasn't told to do paper, just wait for removal, because he "thought" paper was done.

What an ABSOLUTE P.O.S.!
I thought that dogass R.P, on 2nd watch in 011, was the only asswipe of this calber. Couple of months ago, dispatcher's calling out a shooting: Cars racing to the scene...radio full of responding units, asking for more info. In the midst of it all, This P.O.S. asks for lunch. I bullshit you not! He asked for fuckin lunch! Guess it was his way of insuring he didn't get the paper. You could hear Mary (dispatcher)take a deep breath to compose herself, to keep from ripping him a new asshole. I was waiting for a Sgt to come on and ream his useless ass out. But they were all responding to the scene also. Granted R.P. being useless aint exactly news on the watch. But that shit went far and beyond his standard brand of dogass-ness.

Tahoes are top heavy and roll over very easily. Explorers not so much, have way better balance and a lower center of gravity. Explorers were purpose built for police patrol activities. Tahoes that Fleet bought were common with the civilian version. This is what happens when you turn the decision making abilities over to civilians who have no connection to the PD. The explorers do have traction control.

It is physics thats all. SUVs are top heavy, you hit a curb or hole and there are problems. You can talk about lowering them, wider tires , whatever-- it is physics. People think they are safer in them than a full size auto, not so.

When a district has a stand out DOGASS copper who avoids getting involved or helps other coppers, he should be openly called out at roll calls, he should be fucked with by all, including the ball less SGTS. and W/C who fail to act. I have no love for dogasses. When I was a young copper in 13 ,we had a copper who worked in Clemente H>S> . Whenb summer came they put him on a car, he would drive the other way from 10-1's, any in progress calls etc. But not 1 boss would fuck with him because he was hooked by with the local Hispanic politician. The Tahoes are the most dangerous vehicles CPD has ever had...

6000 pounds.
5.3L/327 c.i. V8 @ 335 hp
Top heavy.
Wide, hard compound "racing" tires that are good for shit in cold, wet and snow.
Rear wheel drive pursuit package with a top end of around 140 MPH. (Who is crazy enough to top out a tippy living room sofa on wheels?)

All wheel drive would've had the vehicle sitting several inches higher for ground clearance which would add weight and made it even more "tippy."

First week of these monstrosities being delivered, about three or four of them were knocked over after being hit just like this one.

Some suburban Chevy dealer affiliated with Daley Inc. got their dicks wet on this purchase.

Ford was pushing hard because of the Taurus plant on Torrence Ave. but the city was initially balking because the aftermarket installers were crying about not making money because the Taurus and Explorer Interceptors were fully integrated with computers and cameras so there was no need for the city to waste money on a bunch of chimps fucking up the wiring trying to tap a hot wire to install the outdated electronic shit the city has plenty of.

The Fords are overweight, can't get out of their own way and if you're over 5'10" and more than 200 pounds, they under deliver on interior room.

No way was the city going to go with the new Caprice.
They were spooked by the 94-96 Caprice Police Pursuit package (But CTA Special Enjoyment had 'em by golly! They were ROCKETS! ;^) because it had a version of the Corvette v8 at 260 hp and 150 mph capability in slick-top/unmarked versions. (they purchased a shit ton of the taxi package with the 4.3l/265 ci 200 hp v8... What a slug!) The current Caprice has about 360 hp... Strictly state police/highway patrol performance. Chicago officers will get themselves in trouble with those cars because very few even remember how to drive big rear drive v8 cars. Crown Vic doesn't count because it has no torque down low like the Chevys did. (And still do)

We need AWD, modern v6 tuned for low end torque, long wheelbase, quick ratio steering, severe duty brakes and suspension and officer survival measures built in...

Agreed. He's been doing this his ENTIRE CAREER. Put him on a bt car in uptown and have the sgts. monitor all his b.s. "hold me down on gas, hand waver, reports, etc...". Right before the NATO thing, after they stated 2nd watch personnel were going to be used primarily out of the districts, he mysteriously went iod after supposedly catching a couple of guys in a building under construction. No arrest, no witnesses, and a phantom injury (I worked there when it happened). Total dog.

Hey, Isn't this the same guy that after it was announced in roll call that the watch he was on would now be heading downtown for NATO, somehow had a "Phantom Brick" hit him in the head at a burglar alarm call.....trip to the hospital in an ambulance with a small scratch on his forehead he received from his own hand, complete with an academy award performance of fainting? Then on the medical until NATO was safely over! Of course he continues to be rewarded for his behavior....start time with no roll call or check off, foot post so he takes no jobs so he can sit and read his paper in his squad car on Wilson Ave all day while the criminals sling shit on the sidewalk in front of him because they know he is not getting out of the car for anything! NICE FUCKING JOB!!!

He was on a beat car if he got a simple job that a 99 unit could handle he would stay down on it for hours otherwise if he got a job and you got assigned to assist he would never show up
What's funny is a few years back he came over the radio and claimed he was in a fight and got hit in the face with a brick fucking every car in the distric showed up to help this guy but when we got there everyone agreed it seemed staged he gave a description and like 4 different guys were brought to the scene for a show up neg on all why would he do this you ask ? The following week we were all at NATO and he was home IOD the term in 019 has become known as the NATO BRICKING

I almost fractured his nose after a 10-1 when he did not show up!!!. I hope the Sgts. read this and now you can do your jobs.

When I first came on the people you least wanted to ream your ass were your own coworkers at roll call the next day. You heard about it if you didn't back someone up or were always last at a 10-1.

No computers then so you had to remember where your other cars were, writing it down. If they called for help, frequently they couldn't give a location right away. Someone needed to remember where they were.

We trained ourselves to call out the location FIRST, location only if necessary, we got the idea, we just went. No need for a detailed explanation of what happened, we would find that out later, location is critical.

They will have the vehicle fixed up and back on the road by the end of the week. Hope the officer is back that quickly as well.

That POS in 019 that you mention sounds like the same JK dog ass that right before the NATO protests, he "on viewed" a suspicious person in an alley...
The "mystery man" then tossed a Chicago alley brick at JK, striking him in the head! A 10-1 was called, cops racing to the scene
to help (chasing ghosts more like it, thank GOD no PO's got hurt) with JK laid out on the ground, not so much as a scratch on the head... IOD and no NATO!!!

Addition to that, I called that one as soon as I found out who it was, told the PO taking the report and he thinks I was some clairvoyant.

CFD took him to Illinois Masonic, the doctor looks and says "What injury?" PO JK complains of terrible head pain, doc says take aspirin and go home, JK says he is allergic to aspirin, the only pain reliever that works is morphine. Hand of God, he got the doctor to give him a shot of morphine.

JK was wobbling all around the station after the hospital doing the reports; that was the morphine kicking his ass, not any injury.

I spoke to the contractor on that building. Told me he woke up a couple of shitheads sleeping on his job-site, the day before! He told JK about it and that is where JK got the brilliant idea about the offenders.

The exhaustive search was called off after about 5 minutes as everyone realized it was bullshit. JK can't come up with a good bullshit story to save his life. A self induced clunk in the forehead would have sufficed, not too hard but at least a mark. He had nothing. Got a few weeks off, missed NATO and got a free shot of morphine.

Hey, JK (aka johnnie whispers)...you get home on time? Calling for relief while the officer was en route to Masonic was one of the most despicable acts of cowardice and selfishness I have ever witnessed. You are a disgrace! And then when the dispatcher tells you "not now" you take to sending pdt messages? (When the zone said "1986 I got all 3 of your messages we will send relief when we are able" I personally wanted to kick your ass!) you impeded an officer rescue and should be fired. And then to abandon your post and "block" traffic with an orange cone??? you truly are a POS and should be off this job. Do everyone a favor and fucking retire. You should be written up and suspended, if not fired, and I personally will put pen to paper if asked and document everything I witnessed. Prick

Who is this guy? All these stories about this clown are unreal. How can anyone stand to look at a guy like this at roll call. He doesn't sound like he's even qualified to be security at a Christmas Tree lot. I sure hope the bosses there keep a close eye on this goof. If the stories are true I feel bad for the guys in 019 that have to work with him whoever he is.

What has changed over the years is this guy is never confronted. By anybody. Used to be he would hear it from the watch first and then supervisors. As it is, people just stay away from him, they allow him to do this shit. He is single, never married as far as I know. One of those guys who wears old white underwear that hasn't been white in years.

People need to let him know how they feel, what the watch thinks of him. I have been gone for a few years but I know who they are talking about.

That's funny, he's been doing this kinda stuff since I came on twenty years ago and nothing has changed. No one ever said squat to him, one reason is he kisses the ass of the supervisors. His undies might not be white but his nose is definitely brown

Do these Tahoes, Explorers, or other SUVs that the CPD now has have TRACTION CONTROL?

What does it matter. Even if they did, it would be broken and no one would what to take the car into the area because they will down it.

Get well soon F.E. Hopefully Sgt. G has sent you flowers and your favorite strawberries!

OT: Why isn't anyone talking about the female officer on third watch detailed to the mayor's house? Allegedly her son is the suspect in a fatal shooting that happened in 016. Supposedly he has a long history of gun related cases and she was supposed to bring him in but never did.

My thoughts are with the officer, hope she's doing well. She's difinatly one of the good ones! Take care.

Former 019 officer, PS everything they say about JK is true but not even scraping the surface. Have to blame the bosses who let it get this far.

Last week, I saw something posted over on the Wrigleyville blog about this and I pasted the comment over here, but it didn't make the cut. Rumor is the kid, 30+ banger, was supposed to come in with mommy, but fled to the left coast. The p.o. is still at Rahmmy's house after being off of work for a week or two. The banger son is wanted for a shooting at Waveland and Laramie. Also true is the fact that this guy has past gun related arrests. Can't remember which topic it was under over on the CWB blog though.

Who decided to buy these Tahoes? Absolutely worthless in the winter and completely dangerous. Somebody got a kick back with the purchase of these vehicles. No doubt!

Dean C. Angelo, Sr.
Lodge 7 President

Okay, so the 'kid' is an adult who presumably makes his own bad choices. The mother has committed no crime. And your beef is what?

Gee, I don't know, your adult kid (whose child you take care of) kills someone, and you, as a police officer, were supposed to come in with him so he could surrender, and it never happens. That, right there, is enough to call her out on, because the det.'s knew it was him and gave them the courtesy to come in voluntarily. Then, you're off of work for a couple of weeks while you're shithead kid is in the wind, and possibly out in California?!?! I don't know, just the appearance of possibly being involved in aiding his "relocation" should raise some eyebrows, but then to go back to work at the mayor's house? C'mon man!

Jesus Christ no wonder people hate the police, we eat our own too easily! I have no problem with coppers calling JK out, he made his own bed with his own actions. But to the copper posting about the female officer, are you jealous of her spot? Are you a worse cop than her? Did you lose a fight to her once? Why are you so ass sore about the actions of her son? She didn't do it, and as far as we all know she didn't drive shit bird to the left coast either... I don't especially like the female copper personally but I think these attacks against her on a police blog are low, on a civilian blog the copper who posted that should be fired.
