Cops for Public Office

Someone said there are a number of cops (and firefighters) running for city office this election.

Who are they and which office are they running for? Might as well drum up some support for them here - anything they do will probably be a step up from what exists at the moment.

Samantha Webb is running for the 10th ward Alderman spot. Her website is http://www.webbfor10.com/
I know she has several Facebook pages as well. Please consider reaching out to her. She along with the other CPD candidates need help with their campaigns. It's a long uphill battle with little to no funds and any help is welcome from walking with her team to get signatures to be put on the ballot, to attending and organizing fund raising events. I want to wish all the CPD and CFD members the best of luck. I think its a great idea running for city council and how great would that be shaking up city hall and having folks to actually love and support the police having a voice.

Police Officer Shot In Ferguson, Mo.; 2 Suspects Sought

An officer confronted two males leaving the Ferguson Community Center about 9 p.m., said St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar. The officer had been responding to a burglary, said Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson. The officer chased the men and as he approached them, shots were fired at the officer, who raised his arm and was hit in the left arm, Belmar said.

The officer's condition was not released, but Belmar said he suffered a non-life-threatening wound.

Give them a chance, see what they're about and try to support each other.GO CPD!!!

It really doesn't matter who is alderman on the northwest side. With 50 alderman 1 alderman's vote or say is meaningless to any mayor. He's got 49 others to vote his way. Cityhall doesn't pay any attention to that area. Sad but true. There is no reason for 50 alderscum.

Dear dickhead
I realize you probably sit in your mamas baseman on your laptop talking shit about MSF, TRU, white shirts and alike but pay attention. Deborah Graham was the appointed alderman (by Daley) to replace The corrupt Ike Corruthers to be the alderman of the 29th ward. Nick Sposata (CFD) beat Rice who was the had picked successor to corrupt William Banks.after beating him handily, the powers that be re-drew the boundaries of the 36th ward to include most of the Austin neighborhood (29th ward - Austin) and most of the area In the 36th ward that voted for Sposato. A big FU to the police and fire that voted for Sposato. Now your alderman is Graham a f/1 whose main priority if to take care of the African Americans in Austin. You want potholed filled, Austin has killings every night where do you think her priorities will lie????
One of the guys (CPD) running agains her is A sgt for A/N named Taliferro the other is a public defender who represented the wackjob that killed Officer Francis in 019. The one that blamed Frances at trial for not waiting or his backup.
It's your choice, a hard working copper, an Ike Carrothers shill or a PD who represents cop killers but for some reason I kinda know where you are leaning.

I didn't vote her last time, but she has done a hell of a lotI around this ward. 10 times what the drunk before her accomplished in his long reign! I've heard various descriptions of her and I don't care what her personality or physical appearance is. What I care about is that if I send an email to her, it is answered within hours. When I call for forestry, streets & san, water dept, they are here the NEXT day!!!

If someone can give me a GOOD reason not to give her my vote, I will listen. The copper's running better have a clear mandate because she has done a pretty good job repairing and upkeeping everything except the damn potholes on the side streets.

If you vote for a candidate just because he/she is a copper, you are certainly not giving much thought to the issue. Their day job did not prepare them for politics any more than anyone else. If they present a clear, concise plan that they have for the ward, and can point out reasons to not vote for O'Connor, I'm all ears.

The Donahue and Dougherty group were in bed with the Democrats for years. Fran Hurley was their pick for the South Side State Rep position. Markie mark's kid worked summers in Laski's office before he was indicted.

You should NOT vote for someone just because he is a cop! Many po's forgot where they came from and became politian's just like Donahue. Mark signed in in support of taking pension benefits away from park district employees when that bill was at committee. Why? Mark says he made a mistake. No one born after 1955 (including Mark) gets a 3% single cola any more either. That was his mistake. He was working the State Fop bill for portability when he should have been pushing our C.O.L.A. bill.

Many state rep's will spend the whole day with the fop on a given day and then still vote against us in support of Madigan. They do not want to suffer the fury of Madigan's intimidation.

Vote for a cop? Yes as a tie braker. But not if he votes against us.

Question: Relatively new Lt. Garrido made it to sweet 016 on a phone call, not the bid. Who made the phone call that put him there and why? Was that a political move, or just a pal wanting him over there?

I'll get the facts fucked up,but basically last election?, a Sgt who lives in 022 was trying to run against the 19th ward endorsed hack for whatever spot and I don't think he even made it to the ballot.
Sgt. Joe Bird I believe.

A Republican woman from Worth Township(Ann?), who initiated "Scott's Law" got trounced by a 19th ward hack(Joyce or Hynes) in another race.
Keep voting them dems in people. They only care about you at election time.

Arena deserves to stay in office. He's actually open to new ideas from his constituents and isn't a rubber stamp.

41st - alderman O'Connor - has no respect for the police. Her bullsh** flunkies in her office lie to everyone that calls and then nothing gets done. Not one pothole from this past winter has been fixed - every side street is a mess. Started some sewer work this past month (oh, right before election - what a surprise). After election we won't get another service for another 4 years.

When was the last time you saw a police car drive down your block - yet call O'Connor's office and they will tell you 016 is fully staffed.

O'Connor also voted with Rahm for the parking meters - & now we are inundated with meter maids because we actually pay our fines.

What has O'Connor done for the 41st Ward with her million dollar stipend?

Please - anyone else but O'Connor.

Is Garrido running with Rahm now that Arena turned on Rahm?

9/28/2014 05:39:00 PM

Chicago First, a group that's supporting aldermen who will be loyal to Emanuel are going to back Michelle Baert in the 45th Ward race.

The remap will make it more difficult for Garrido to win. First obstacle is making it to the runoff and getting Baert out in the 1st round.

Who would Chicago First back if it's Arena and Garrido in the runoff? Not sure about that, but I know that Emanuel wants Arena out.

Voting for someone just because of their job is as bad as voting for someone because of the color of their skin. Look where that got us..............

Well duh maybe because of their job they might put us first for a change and have our best interest. Can't be any worst ,reason enough.? It's deeper than just their job, come on now wake up.

John Garrido is not a bad guy. He is smart. He is a lawyer. He likes the working police. Good Luck during your run.

He's also the one that blew the whistle on the SOS coverup and questioned Kirby as to why so many cr#'s were unfounded.

9/28/2014 10:03:00 PM

You are so full of shit! He had NOTHING to do with the SOS stuff. Maybe after the fact he asked some questions, out of the chain of command, but there was so much going on behind the scenes that he would have absolutely NO knowledge of. Just stop the bullshit. Maybe he'll do a good job, but making shit up for his resume' isn't going to be very productive.

Vote for Joe Lamonto. Will be running against O'Connor in the 41st Ward. Joe is not CPD or CFD but is a huge supporter of the police and fire. He's also against Rahm on many levels and will do a great job. He's a successful business owner and is a great guy overall. Ask around. People in the community know him as "hardware Joe". Don't vote for someone just because he or she is the police. That doesn't mean they'll do a great job at being alderman. Vote for the guy who will get things done in the 41st ward and most importantly get rid of O'Connor.

Enjoy the methadone clinic, senior center, and new apartments that are more like SRO's that Arena wants in JP. When you're stuck in traffic in a single file lane on N. Milwaukee avenue, remember that you got even with Rahm.

Arena defamed John Garrido to win office in 2011 with the SEIU's help.

Like the methadone clinic, "senior" housing, new apartments in Jeff park that are going to be the size of an SRO, and don't forget about the influx of section 8.

Have fun at the Fringe Festival asshat.

O'Connor is a lock. 41st Ward is light years ahead of where it was under Doherty.Hate to break it to readers, I know plenty of level- headed cops and fire that are just fine with her.

Napolitano is a nice guy who is in way over his head. No money, no real support, no chance. Being helped by Coconate...draw your own conclusions.

Garrido has no realistic path to victory in 45 and also has a shit ton of debt. What's he going to do, campaign on hating or opposing Rahm more? I'm sure that will work.

Heather Sattler, the COO of the 100 Club of Chicago is running for alderman in 38 against Sposato.

While she is not a police or fire, there is no better friend to police and fire than the 100 Club.

I expect she will shake things up.

I did a search on "Garrido" just in this blog, and saw comments about him from all of his various political runs - it's enough for me to not vote for him just because he is CPD. If Baert is being backed by that Rahm PAC, it's an automatic no vote from me. Why not keep Arena in, he is a thorn in the side of Rahm and actually votes against most of the crap being rubber-stamped by the rest of the city council.

Arena's signed onto Rahm's agenda about the bikes and pedestrian garbage with CDOT. He might take out two lanes of traffic on Milwaukee Avenue to make it more pedestrian and bike friendly. City of big shoulders? City of simpletons who can't cross the street.

He stopped a Dunkin Donuts from having a drive thru by Six Corners. That would have been a nice addition to the neighborhood. It was not to be because Arena didn't want it. Cost the business owner a small fortune. But Arena did it for the children.

He reminds me of Helen Schiller and that isn't compliment. She brought a lot of garbage into uptown to stay in power.

The tenth ward candidate, Webb has worked inside her whole career. She didn't mind having Christmas and weekends off while the rest of us gave up that time to work a job we were hired to do. I'm convinced this is a way for her to continue taking care of Webb.
