McCarthy Out?

Adding the evidence together and it certainly looks like he's leaving shortly:
  • Exhibit #1 - there hasn't been a CompStat meeting for a month now.
He's in town, he's been seen here and there, he's been quoted in the paper. But his favorite pastime of belittling and humiliating the Command Staff has ceased to be for the past four weeks.
  • Exhibit #2 - Candlelight Vigil. McCarthy sat by himself and none of the regular sycophants approached him at all, instead congregating in their own little herd and studiously ignoring the Supe.
That is very telling - not needing to impress or be noticed by the boss because he's not really in charge any more. That's very typical Chicago - the guy on the chopping block is usually the last to know. Or knows and is just going through the motions for a hefty paycheck.
  • Exhibit #3 - Election time. Rahm needs votes. Shaking things up will produce the illusion of change and Rahm can say, "Look what I'm doing!" and there are enough stupid people that will believe he's actually changing things.
Put all of this into the bozo-puter and we'll set the over/under for a change at the top at early November - call it Election Day when the national and state races are over and Rahm's race really begins.

SCC, I believe in your Exhibit #3 alone can get a Supt launched, but i put all three if your exhibits in my bozo-puter and it says we can expect a minority Supt one month prior to the election. Having a white Supt at the beginning of Rahm's term was by design..."If he does a good job, I will get votes, if not, install a minority Supt and still get votes."

My analysis is that the Southside, and Westside Revs. will have much to say who McCarthy's successor is. McCarthy has basically done a good job, however it is election time. I remember a Judge stating running for election, "Come before me around election time you get what you want...not what deserve." It was a joke, but it seems so appropriate given the political climate.

The Mayor's numbers are terrible in the African-American community. My guess to galvanize the African-American community the Mayor picks an African-American insider tied to the religious communities of the South and West sides. My guess is Eugene Williams! I have never met Williams, so anyone saying I am one of his guys would be false.

I want emphasize I have NO internal knowledge! This is just a guess.

9/22/2014 05:37:00 AM

Just an idle thought...

Is their any way to do a side by side comparison of big city police contracts?

We're curious as to whether NYPD, LAPD, Boston PD, Houston PD and the larger suburban departments have as much bullshit, weasel words, donkey dung, lawyerese, slippery syntax as there is in our contracts?

A comparison/contrast would be nice... We'll also find out how much or how little other municipalities think of their first line first responders now that all indicators point toward an "improving economy" so Policemen might be made whole for being targeted for the great hate and backwards pimp-walkout their benefits and pay over the last 15 years...

That ought to get the seat of Rahm and his henchmen's panties in a knot!

"No NO NO! Don't you churls look at salaries and benefits from other places as a base line! Only WE can do that!"

You know F(L)OP wouldn't DARE do such a thing because it would fuck up the narrative Rahm desperately wants to spin.

This reminds me of the 1950s, when you had a once-a-year chance to prognosticate what was going on in the USSR by very closely observing the "dignitaries" on the reviewing stand atop Lenin's Tomb for the great May Day parade in Red Square.

Who was there? Who was standing next to whom, and how did the pattern change from last time? The intelligence guys blew up the film stills, spent hours with magnifying glasses going over it all.

More ominously -- who didn't show up this year?

With regards to hospitals, you can still use (Advocates,Northwestern,Rush)and the family deductible max stays the same with both tier 1 and 2.Both tiers also will be paying less of a bill because of the "subscriber share " change, which gives us the ability to pay the city discount no matter what tier we use. The union has been trying to get "subscriber share" for years.I was at a general meeting and heard Daugherty say the "subscriber share"was a very good thing that we are trying to get for a while.Use the hospital you are comfortable with, tier 1 hospitals attempting to generate more business because they are not as well regarded as above mentioned hospitals are giving the city an extra discount to be placed in tier 1.Use the Hospital you trust and comfortable with.

My guess is that replacing McCarthy with a black superintendent would backfire in the black community. Many black voters would likely and rightly see it as pandering.

Same as with the new high school he wanted to name after the President and changing Stony Island to Bishop Brazier Drive.

Now I happen to think it was necessary to close the schools he closed given the massive migration of blacks OUT of Chicago, but he was and is just such a lying asshole about the whole thing.

I don't know who I will vote for or against. Karen Lewis is clearly a tough character, but does will she do what's necessary to balance the budget?

Fioretti? Please. I'm ashamed to say he grew up in Roseland /Pullman. His schtick about trying to keep "Felony Franks" Hot Dog stand out of his ward cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Rahm? Fuck him.

The black community is mad at Rahm? Just what has he done to them? He's shifted one third of the police departments resources from the white districts to the most crime ridden black districts to make them more safe. Oh, he's closed some schools. If you burn up or vandalize your neighborhood less people live there, you have no need for the same number of schools. If your children don't go to school, just what do you need one for? I'm a stupid WASP, I believe a high school diploma is better than slinging dope. It pays less, but in the long run, work with me here, it gets you into college which will make you more money in the long run. Not right now, ADD sufferers but once you grow up, you can be one of those rare commodities in the hood, a black man with a college degree. But alas, you STILL have to hustle, cooperate and go the extra mile at your real job. That hollering about how you got a college degree while doing as little as possible isn't going to get it. But, if you talk plenty of shit and get fired, Lovey and Lovey might sue for you so you can get a large discrimination payout.

I wonder what happened to get an education, do a good job and get ahead? How about save your money and open a small business (not an illegal drug business) like an auto repair or body shop? A small grocery store? A beauty or nail shop? A hot dog, taco or fish restaurant?

“I have your back.’ Are not just words that i speak. It’s a promise I’ve made to you, my brother and sisters. Yes, even you who have not yet joined our family. I will not break that promise. That is why I will be voting NO on this contract deal. I will not vote to have those who are not on the job yet, to have money taken out of their pockets. I will not tell them when I see them that you can trust me even though I turned my back when I should have stood up for you.

I will not turn my back to those that have more time on the job than I and vote away their seniority rights.

These are just two reasons, there are more, but to me my word, my promise is worth more than any retro check I might get. Please vote NO on this deal.

OT: GOT MY BALLOT

Just got my ballot. Voted. Couldn't help but notice the FOP and their support of this contract due to a unknown fear of what the arbitrator may or may not do. One thing is clear. This contract sucks. And if we do indeed lose more during arbitration, we need to unite as blue shirts and ensure the city understands that officers making ends meat cannot perform at a 100% during their duty. There is not a single issue that was written in our favor. I really don't appreciate the FOP including a letter of support on behalf of this contract. There job is to inform us and to keep us updated. NOT to steer us in a direction in which "they" agreed to with the city. It's another sad day for our FOP. No matter how ever you vote, please be informed and read the booklet included with your ballot.

I laugh at coppers who hold out hope of getting a superintendent who will do what blue shirt coppers want...as opposed to dancing to the mayor's tune. It simply won't happen! No mayor would appoint a superintendent, without first, insuring that said sup knew who ultimately runs shit.
Dream on, though boys. Dream on.

Exactly right. If you or I were the mayor would we want a supt that fought us all the time or a guy who agreed to go along with our agenda.
Also the same po's forget that the supt would be more than happy if the mayor hired 2,000 more po's, bought 2000 squads and gave us a 5% annual salary raise. He has to work with what the mayor puts into the budget, Simple as that,

Engage your brain before you type. Some of us 'old retired guys' are barely fifty years old. Lots of us still have many friends on the job, dealing with this idiot of a superintendent, which makes him relevant in our/their lives. Pension issues affect us, and the raises affect anybody who left in the last couple of years. Again, some relevance. Many of us still live here, for various reasons, so manpower and coverage affect us, our friends and our neighborhoods. Again, relevant. You'll understand this better after you begin to mature.

I predicted this a couple months ago after conversations with someone with inside knowledge-- citing health reasons McCleanandsober leave this fall and Eddie Johnson would get Supt. job. The longer odds is Staples b/c she's female, LGBT and has a masters from Northwestern. Rahm has big polling problems with the Lakefront liberals in 018 and 019 b/c of crime, potholes, etc., and he thinks she might help him with those voters.

I was at the vigil cocktail reception when plenty of white shirts were taking turns talking to the Supt. During the vigil itself, he was up front with other speakers, so not exactly easy to talk to him. Did see Dean Angelo Sr, who must of had an invisible bubble shield, as no one was going within 3 feet of him.

9/22/2014 08:25:00 AM first of all you ignorant fu-- you have no clue what you are talking about so stop spreading rumors. The evaluation system Also has system issues built into it the test team released prior to the recommendations of some of the testors. For example, any sergeant at any time can go in and make comments about you so let's say you have a sgt that does not like you and wants to jam you up he can have his buddy sergeants go in or he himself can say whatever he wants without you knowing and the come evaluation time let's say some random supervisor that does not know you now reads these comments has to enter your evaluation based on what your sergeants have said about your work performance. So now you are expected to be be fired on that -- go fuck yourself buddy-- go run to the lawyers office if you ever have any problem with your evaluation - Ladner pushed this through before testing was complete

Old retired guy. The super has nothing to do with pension or raises. Which shows that you are not a CPD retired cause any cpd would know that. You may be retired but not from cpd.

If you want anyone to take your opinion seriously, use punctuation so someone can actually understand your rant. Also, don't use the word buddy, it really makes you sound like a moron.

This merit hack couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel.

I missed the 'pour' word from your sentence and was going to comment that pissing out of a boot with or without instructions would probably be impossible.
....never mind, my bad.

Just voted a BIG YES! I'm figuring a retro of approximately $11,500 counting almost 2 years of OT (Jan '13 till ratification. YES!

Enjoy it now, son, because you will be living in poverty when you retire. Think about the long term, not immediate gratification. Immediate gratification is for children who don't understand this concept yet.

You young guys/gals on the job think retirement is a long way off...it comes way faster than you would believe. Remember, you might only be 50 when you retire....you might live for a longer period of time than you worked.

Don't scoff. My parents are both 90 and still active as hell. When you think of the contract, think about your working conditions now, but don't forget to consider what it will mean for your retirement. It's not going to get any better, so fight for the things worth fighting for.

Yeah okay... McCarthy sitting right next Rahm to and speaking to the House-Senate.

He's not going anywhere expect the White House with Rahm. If he didn't leave yet with all his health issues he isn't leaving anytime soon.

This once great police department...

I hear that term a lot. Have lived in this city the whole of my 50+ years. Can't recall a time when the department was ever "great". So, during what years did this alleged greatness take place. And what made the department "great" then. Just askin.

I really hope you guys who are voting YES for a quick retro are joking.I mean vote how you wish YES OR NO but are you really that bad off to need $6,000 after taxes that you will just sign and send without reading it? LMAO. How pathetic are you coppers? So glad I have plan B. This is why I can't talk intelligently to half the people on this job. So many of you have no plan and can't see past tomorrow.

Hey Bill,
I gotta plan B too. That's why I can afford to take the 6G cash grab now, and not sweat what's gonna happen 100 years down the line. I'm done in 2 years. I'll only be 53. Already got the next thing lined up. Only had one child. Had her early. She's long done with college, married and owns her own home. And, oh, I'm long divorced. So, you see, there's only me to concern myself with. And that, my friend, make all the difference in the world.

The superintendent on average only last 3 years. McCarthy has lasted beyond that and has not made a significant impact on crime. Especially murders. It's time for him to admit, at least to himself, that he has done a poor job and is in this way over his head.

9/22/2014 04:55:00 PM

His family didn't last 6 months here. Some type of man. Not a peep in the news either.

His daughter lives here. She married the son of one of the Smithe Bros that's in those goofy ads for their furniture store empire.
