Retirees Sue

  • Chicago’s 28,000 retired city workers and their dependents are asking a federal judge to block Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to save $27 million in 2015 by raising monthly health insurance premiums by anywhere from 30 percent to 79 percent.

Arguing that the Illinois Supreme Court’s decision to preserve health benefits for state retirees “substantially increased” their chances of prevailing on the merits, retirees want to compel the city to roll back monthly payments to 2013 levels.

That’s when Emanuel announced plans to save $108.7 million a year by phasing out the city's 55 percent subsidy for retiree health care and forcing retirees to make the switch to Obamacare.
Remember - D E M O C R A T S are voting to fuck you right now or are actually doing the screwing as we speak. This is your future retirement - nearly 80% increases to your healthcare, a constant diminishment of benefits and court battles so you don't end up on the street.

Really scc. Democrats, or the state of Chicago. I applaud your unbiased approach to issues, but pull back on this. Republican party in Illinois aims to make a killing in privatization of pensions. Ask your boy bruce. Anyone who invests millions of his own money to win a race, stands to gain something greater. Nobody is that noble!!!

There is nothing worse than to plan for your retirement and letting the city steal your dreams and welfare by huge increases in healthcare payments.

Oh silly me, the Aldermen and Rahm don't have that plan!

Balance the government? Vote in another party to keep things in check?

No way, the Democrats are going to take care of us. We gave them our votes in exchange for excessive money and benefits (YES - EXCESSIVE!!)

Now the Well has run dry and "cuts" have to be made.

You BOUGHT it - you GOT it. AND who are you going to vote for in November?????

As an eye doctor, let me give you some advice:

As long as somebody else is paying for your health care, too f'n bad.

As long as some government is paying for your health care, too f'n bad.

As long as government is involved in your health care, too f'n bad.

You want affordable, quality health care? Pay for it yourself and pay it directly to your doc since they work and care about MONEY as much as YOU do.

You have the mess you have since you want to take your money for vacations, HD TV, f'n sports, etc. etc. etc and NOT your health first.

Because of all that the people get the garbage they deserve.

Lets face it, no matter who is in charge of our governments, the benefits of retirees will come under attack. They want to cut debt and retirees are easy targets. And, since most do not remain in Chicago, they don't vote for city candidates. However, you will also see Illinois attacks and federal attacks on benefits ( with the exception of welfare and Link, that is). The funds are so down that they cannot raise taxes high enough to bring them to the level that they need to be. They made promises that they cannot keep. Nationalized health care is only 10 years away. It is coming.

Why do you think Rahm is not concerned about the balloon payment in 2016?

Remember that Rauner provided the $$$ to bring Mr. Edelman here to give to Madigan's candidates in 2012 in return for fucking the teachers unions. They thought CTU would never reach the new 75% threshold in a strike vote.

Obamacare is not about health care.

It is about Gun Control and Illegal Immigration. Here is why:

Most Americans are losers and want somebody else to pay for their health care while they spend their money on junk, vacations, cars, TV's, McDonald's etc. So, the majority of Americans will go for and love Obamacare. Sure, it won't work, nobody will give a damn about you and the costs will be outrageous, but as long as somebody else is paying for your "health care", the Democrats will get the votes.

Second: Hospitals are either broke or going broke with the 40-50 Million illegals who pay nothing. These Hospitals need money bad and Obamacare is a sneaky way to get them lots of cash to pay for the illegal invasion and their multiple births per woman.

Obamacare sends about $11,000 per family to the big 5 Insurance companies. The Insurance companies will pocket some of this and send the rest in "insurance payments" to the Hospital corporations to be used to pay for the illegals. The Hospitals will be able to bill higher costs to the Insurance Companies which will gladly pay these "inflated" bills with the massive Billions through Obamacare.

Now, what "republican" or "independent" is going to go against Obamacare? Not one. People and the Illegals are going to vote in Democrats to such an extent that soon the majority in the 3 branches of the Federal Government will be Democrats.

Now the Democrats will pass all the Anti-guns laws they want, up taxes on the working citizens, and then grant 100% amnesty to 40 million illegals who will vote Democratic forever.

Bye bye America and welcome to the One Party State.

That is the reason for Obamacare, suckers.

Some retirees need to quit whining and whimpering and man up. The days of sweet, for life, deals for union members are gone.

To be put on a fixed income after retirement and having your insurance go up by 40% while cost of living also goes up, tell me, where does the money come from so we can "man up" with?

As a young PO, the word retirement was not even in my vocabulary. When I saw flyers on the wall telling of a retirement party, I thought, good, he should retire, he's old.

Now that I'm retired and on a fixed income, I can't work OT or whatever the young guy's do for extra money, so I do have to watch what I spend because Rahm ain't doing me OR you any favors.

Remember, when the politicians have created laws that they don't have to follow, just you, you are fucked.

You think Obama cares what happens to your family? Do you think he cares how much your insurance goes up? NO, because his shit for him and his family is all taken care of for the rest of his life.

He's moving to California to a 6. something million dollar mansion with a pool plus waterfall into that pool. What are you going to have with your 75% (if you max) of your salary?

Just sayin....

Democrat or Republican, they exempted themselves from the provisions of that act.

He's a ruthless, slimy bastard who claims he's making the " tough choices".

The young officers are only voting yes to get the retro. Nothing else in the contract matters to them.

9/26/2014 09:56:00 AM

Nothing else matters to them now but this contract really lays the wood to the younger officers.
That's why Rahm was all smiles and patting himself on the back about his "fair and generous offer" to us.

So what is your answer? We vote for Governor Potatohead and watch the City and State go belly up?

How about we stay home and don't vote for the other guy which is another way of voting FOR Governor Patatohead?

Me? I'll vote for Rauner and get rid of a guy I KNOW is a problem.

To all of you no voters who keep trying to advocate everyone else to vote no, you're wasting your fucking time. People are going to vote according to the way they feel. The same way they will vote in the next election. You think your VOTE NO post means something? Buddy that don't mean shit. Fact is, we are going to get fucked either way. Vote no and we're fucked. Vote yes and we're fucked. The city comes out on top no matter what. Your benefits were never written in stone genius. It could could change at the discretion of the city. Which it has been over the last 20 years. Within the next 10 years, we will lose the uniform allowance all together. The city will opt for a commissary, and you will vote No as usual. Then it will go to arbitration, and we will still lose it. When people say "Wake up people", they are correct. Wake up and realize that the world is changing, and this shit was never meant to be forever. It's unfortunate that the city decided to fuck the retires, but guess what. They are going to do the same to you one day when ou retire. No guarantees with this city. Please cast your vote. Whatever vote you decide, make sure it's in your best interest, and the best interest of your family. Advocating for someone that's not even hired yet, and that may be years away from being hired is absurd.

Look at what you will be paying for health care.
25.00/35.00 everytime you or a dependent visit a doctor.
150.00 to go to a hospital for treatment if you are not admitted. Where else do you go for an emergency? have the doctor make a house call?
How about the maximum out of pocket?
that retro will be back in there wallet in 1yr. Vote No!

Notice that the DEM-o-crats cut benefits from working people who've worked all their lives for what they weee promised, but the DEM-o-crats never attempt to cut a dime of benefits from Welfare, Food Stamp, Unemployment, WIC, etc. Programs for all the freeloaders and deadbeats who contribute nothing ever to Society. These Democrats really ARE the Communists we were warned about, decades ago. Beware these Parasites.

It is very sad that union would even propose a contract, that any reasonable person would realize, was designed to tear our membership apart.

If you had any time on this job you would know that we don't need a contract to "tear us apart". We can do that just fine all by ourselves.

I still don't know what all the complaining about this contract is all about. When you get right down to it, it's every man/woman for themselves. They, as will I, will vote yes as long as there is something in this contract that I want.

And all this bullshit about voting no to protect those that have not even been hired is just that, bullshit.

Most of us on this job have no special training or Qualifications that would get us a job paying even half of what we make here in private industry. Believe me I'm not saying just roll over but be honest and take a real look at what workers in the private world are getting and putting up with. If you had to get a new job tomorrow what would you do? Be a security Guard, drive a truck, work in a warehouse? Believe me I've known a lot a coppers that had to leave and thats what they are doing. The pension yes never give up fight for that cause you pay into it and that will be your life income. But all other things use common sense.

Democrats cause these budget problems and then a republican takes over and has to be daddy and make some hard choices. Look at Wisconsin, no more budget problems. Yet, the democrats are screaming for the mans head that fixed the problem. Democrats won't say no to anyone except working people, because you won life's lottery.

You'd be surprised how much talent there is on the CPD.

Unfortunately, those people rarely get a chance to use it.

Clout and merit picks take precedence every time.

Nothing new, just the way it is.

That is question number 1 for the Arbitrator in the 2017 Contract.

I miss those checks, duty, uniform, OT, special employment, those were the days. Now I only get one fucking check a month. It is big, bigger than my former take home was. It just was nice to get all those misc. checks. Those were vacation checks and Christmas money.

Stay working people, keep paying in to the fund. Retirement is OK.

You know, it's too bad that all city workers are tied into this. I'm behind the first responders, and thank them for their service. But if this includes the S&S lazy MFs, the McCormick Place so-called carpenters and laborers, the traffic light "electricians", and the rest of the fuck-ups who worked 3-4 hour days for 8 hours of pay for years 30 years, paid for by our tax dollars, they could go fuck themselves.

My insurance will be $15,000 a year , served 31 years , why do officers on duty disability that have bad backs , necks that can function everyday , drive , school ,baby sit the kids , work part time , vacation get free health insurance . Not fair to officers that retired , good guess is that over half of duty disability officers could answer a telephone , type a report , make copies , file reports , drive a car for grease and oil , sit in lobby of headquarters ,Homan square ,crime lab . Let these officers that are able to work come back to work without police powers and free up sworn officers that are full duty doing office work .

Memo to all: I have the city PPO plan and you all who have this plan pay a co pay of 25/35 dollars for every office visit. This is not going away period. Try and go out there and find a plan. I work for a company art time and a family plan PPO cost just about 243.oo per week, plus dental and vision plans. And this won't get better, I'm now retired and pay nothing, but in 1 more year I qualify for medicare, and my wife being 18 months younger, I will have to pay for her thru the city which will be about 650. monthly. Fight for benefits not a few dollars raise for check! Time flys and you will be where a lot of us are at, and heaven forbid if you have to go on non duty related disability.
