Another Crash

  • Two Chicago Police officers were injured Friday evening when their squad car crashed in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 9:10 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Washington, police News Affairs Officer [...] said, citing preliminary information.

Both officers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, [...]. Additional details on the crash were not immediately available.
Best wishes to the injured officers.

Maybe it's a good thing the FOP made vehicles part of the contract - we've counted about eight crashes since the Contract went out for a vote. We'll be down to 392 cars before ratification.

By the way - did you vote yet? The count is at the end of this week.

It is beginning to appear that the CPD is giving the car keys to some less than skillful drivers.

National stats indicate we lose a member of law enforcement every 57 hours, with the #1 cause of death for well over a decade...vehicle accidents.
Please exercise caution in every aspect of your tour.
Stay Safe.

Perhaps it is because the vehicles they give is to use have a million miles of use on them and are falling apart. They are death traps --

Some of these squads feel like your driving a boat on rough water. Had a Tahoe the other night with a 197,000 mikes on it, un-fucking believable.

I drive that stretch of Washington on my way home sometimes and it is in terrible shape. I can see someone going to fast and hitting a pothole or just the general unevenness.

Unless its a 10-1, what the hell is the rush??? The accident board is gonna rule against you every time- their premise is you didn't clear the intersection, if an accident occurs while you were going to a call. Per G.O. - emergency equipment is an option- never mandatory on these calls. And in light of recent years and the public attitude toward law enforcement, there is very little reason to use them anymore. Let them try to spar you for getting stuck in rush hour traffic.

The city has no intention of getting more cars- Ford cancelled existing deliveries because they are not paying bills, how the hell are they going to get more?!! Show them you have a brain between your head and vote no!

When they put vehicles in the contract, did they think to include tires, spare parts, gasoline, blue lights and such?

Of course they are. If the contract is voted down and arbitrator will deny retro and the Shields boys will be punched by every police officer they see.
