Off Duty Shot, Wounded

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer was shot and seriously wounded during an apparent robbery attempt early Friday morning on the South Side, authorities said.

The 41-year-old officer was leaving a lounge near 75th Street and Langley Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood around 12:50 a.m. and was approached by three robbers as he got into his white BMW, according to police and Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.

There was an "altercation" and the officer tried to speed away, but one of the robbers opened fire and hit him in the chest in the 7400 block of South Langley Avenue, Camden said.

The officer, an eight-year veteran of the department, kept driving and was spotted by a squad car and pulled over near 73rd Street and Champlain Avenue, police said.

He was initially taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Hospitals, where he was stabilized, and then transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, officials said. Camden said he was listed in serious condition.
Prayers for a speedy recovery Officer.

I was out having a drink with a buddy same as this cop but we chose a safe location outside of Chicago! Why must I travel 5 miles outside of Chicago for a drink? Because I don't wanna get shot and robbed. It is a damned shame this happened to this poor copper. Glad he is doing better.

I tell people all the time, stay out of these local Southside and westside bars, the areas are nothing but trouble.

Just like the lucky Sergeant who shot and killed the stick up man at the gas station on 103rd and cottage grove, you are always a target in these areas.

Stay safe boys and girls, and if you gotta get out and have a drink, please chose a safe location far outside of Chicago.

Remember, thanks to Rahm and McThisIsHowWeDoItInNewYork, it ain't that nowhere in Chicago is safe but that danger has been more or less spread all over town...

Just think... The papers in Chicago used to do call outs to desperadoes who hurt Policemen...

"SURRENDER OR DIE!"

...Or something like that.

The libtards, apologists for Dude Inc. and "Moms Against Things" would scream, cry and sue anyone/everyone who expresses such "blood-thirsty" sentiment against the no doubt disadvantaged adult "children" who likely committed this funky crime.

I hope this officer doesn't have problems with the MSS or with his health insurance with his IOD because FOP just fired the young lady that was an expert on helping officers on their medical issues after she's done a wonderful job for us for the last 11 years. Another great decision by this FOP and Dean Angelo's crew. Who is going to help us now? Who is going to answer our medical calls now? The reason you fired jessica is selfish. Didn't you think about us? The membership? I'm sure the FOP is going to be sued once again over their decision to fire her. She was the most knowledgeable worker our union had and she was damn good at her job. Just more of our union dues money going to go to more lawsuits for their selfish decisions. Way to go Dean and your morons.

Been to a few lounges on the west side, most recently for a birthday party. Definitely a difference than a bar. Not saying all are like that though. If the crowd who usually attends is older in the establishment, atleast 30+, it's almost certainly a lounge and typically kind of "dull". Definitely not some place you'd go (or can even go) to catch the game for instance.

Hmmmm...interesting question. I thought I had an answer, about three times, but finally I realized we just call them lounges. It has a smoother more laid back sound to me. My perception: Bar or tavern is go out with the guys/co-workers, lounge is somewhere you hope to meet women . All in all, same thing...

A lounge isn't a just got off work, have a quick beer before going home place. And you don't go there to watch the game. A lounge is more of a neighborhood place where you still put on some decent clothes, clean up a bit and go have some drinks in a date like atmosphere. You might go with your boys but interacting with the opposite sex is priority. Think low lighting, R&B (old or recent) and people dressed up..lounge.

Yes, your right Dean is the Cities Bitch but you won't see Deans sellout until it affects you. As for the girl he fired, your right he wouldn't need her for the retirees that that Rahm is fucking and putting into Obama care but she helped the active and disabled every time the city fucked us and she was so damn good at helping us her name was always referred to everyone in the districts that had IOD problems or insurance denial problems. So with this City Bitch in office at FOP firing her for no reason other than political bullshit. That girl was the best FOP had up there. Iv been there and seen her help 8 walkin officers in minutes and they all left relieved that she was able to help them. Dean and his circus clan of morons need to go. I bet if Deans so called "disabled ass" was getting bent over and fucked by the city on his supposed disability injury that he can't work a desk job with the dept but can double dip and work at FOP I bet if he needed help he'd be sorry he fired her and all her connections and knowledge on helping us officer.

She was so kind n seemed dedicated I don't think that was a good decision dean. Just because u won shouldn't giv u the right to terminate good people that help us I may think about not sending in my union dues over this.

Since I made sgt and no longer able to vote, if I could however, I would vote Dean out of office after hearing about what he did to her. As a sergeant I would call her many times on issues for myself and other officers because our union has a voice mail so it was faster and easier to call jessica and she punctually and promptly always answered all my questions. I had a feeling there was a reason I hesitated sending in my dues this year. Next year FOP will not get my dues money.

Dean fired her????? Really? That is sad to hear. She was always so friendly & spunky. I have been through political transformations that have fired people to bring in their own people, but they fired the ones that were easily replaceable. She had 11 years of knowledge and City connections that have helped us that is not something that is easily replaceable. Why didn't he fire one of the other girls?

I retired with the free insurance and my insurance lapsed when I retired. My wife was scheduled for surgery but they wouldn't do the surgery because it was showing we had no insurance. I called our benefits office only to get the "run around" and then I called the pension fund and they told me to call jessica at fop. I spoke to her she calmed my wife and I down and she got our insurance activated in a few days. It's a shame to hear that Dean fired her. She was very helpful.

Exactly who ever said he was smart? He probably fired her because she wasn't shady like the Mayo sisters that seem to keep on skeeting by the more they back stab their prior administrations each election. I called jessica today on her cell because no one answered at FOP when I called there, so I called her cell to ask her a question for an officer she's been working on for me that was shot in the line of duty and she told me Dean fired her that she no longer works for FOP but she still answered my questions for me. She was an asset to the organization such a shame that she's gone. She will certainly be missed by many. I wish her and her son much happiness. It was a pleasure working with her all these years.

Dean was never the police and when in B and A was a total idiot. Fuck him.

FOP can kiss my ass now and the yearly dues just stopped.

Active copper' should pull out, and the dues will go to charity.

You would still be covered by contract. Would you want their bs lawyer handle a case on you ?

There are quite a few active copper' that pulled out of FOP.

Dean is nothing but a man-child with a PhD my hamster could obtain. Dr. Dean, total bs. Lewis Univ. is a baby step above Macolm X college.

Every year jessica helped me with keeping my daughter on my insurance, I'm retired, this year they took her off, I panicked

I immediately went to jessica with my paperwork and she greeted me by name with her big smile and calmed me down.

I called her every day the next 3 days and she assured me not to worry that she'd fix the problem

Once again she pulled through and my daughter is back on my insurance. This is a sad loss for the FOP.

I pay union dues for people like jessica to help us not for people to fire them over politics.

I agree with the person who said that the Board should have a voice on who gets fired especially when is bones to someone that was valuable to us there.

If I could send jessica flowers for all her hard work throughout the years for me and my family to thank her I would.

After reading all of this let me get this straight. Dean fired the girl that when Ray came to roll calls and we asked him medical questions he would tell us to call her because she was the expert and after him being up there for 6 months he still didn't know the answer to our questions? Wasnt Ray supposed to work with her on the medical? This is bullshit! No one at our union to help us on the most important questions we have during a time of a new contract with some bullshit tiers that no one understands and with Rahm trying to take away our medical. Another smart move by Dean.
