Can They Forfeit?

  • Jay Cutler is once again the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Just like that.

In yet another surprise twist in a season full of unpredictability, the Bears announced Monday afternoon that Cutler would start their regular-season finale Sunday against the Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The move came in concert with the team’s announcement that Jimmy Clausen has been ruled out for the finale after being diagnosed with a concussion.
That must have been an interesting meeting:
  • Yeah....Hi Jay....it's Coach. You know how we benched you for the rest of the season? Yeah, the team had lost confidence in your ability to throw the ball. Yeah, $15 million a year kind of leads people to expect some sort of accuracy and all that. Mmmmhmmm, well, we've got a little problem...
What's the worst a forfeit could bring them?

My take on that was that the FOR SALE sign was around Cutler's neck. He was getting almost 20% of the player's salary and that didn't leave much to get decent players in other key positions especially in defense.

The Bears brass did not want to risk an injury to commodity that they desperately wanted to unload in hopes of making changes and have money to spend on more balanced team.

Good Luck Bears and especially Jimmy Clausen; you gave us some good moments last Sunday.

Clausen didn't play half-bad. A lot of dropped balls that were squarely the receivers' fault. Seven, I believe. Oh well, let's go Hawks!

The way things are going, Cutler will probably get injured in the last game,Tennessee will lose interest and the Bears will be stuck paying him.

I wonder if the same person that concocted the story for what happened to Rahm's kid and his phone concocted the concussion story as a way to play Cutler one more time for the shoppers.

Who are you going to get to replace Cutler? Not Clausen, he has just earned himself a spot as a good back-up for some team. The thing the Bears did wrong with Cutler was over pay him. As bad as he played this year name 1 QB the Bears can sign that's better. Josh McCown, don't think so.

I seem to remember back in the dark days, Walter Payton ended up taking snaps late in a game when all 3 QBs ended up going down.

He didn't do that bad either

Clausen looked good? Did you even watch the game? 200 and some yards passing. He looked like a backup in an inept offense on a stinky team.
Most boring game ever. Detroit looked bad too.
Bears need a lot of changes to be competitive again. Start at the top and work down..

What difference does it make who is throwing the balls for the Bears if no one is catching them?

7 drops against the Lions. Similar against the Saints and Cowgirls.

Bears fans are way too hard on Jay. Ok, so he not a "Rah-rah, get on my back boys and I will carry you to the SB" guy. He comes in, does his work and expects those around him to to their work and their jobs as elite, highly paid professional athletes. Something the Bears have not done.

Over 20 False Start penalties in last 2 seasons. 2 on WR. Wide receiver should never false start.

And the Tim Jennings pass interference penalty in 4Q against Lions was inexcussable. Ball hits TJ in the back. If he had turned around, he would not have been flagged. ANd maybe had an INT.

Shipping Cutler out won't be difficult. Finding a replacement will be. QBs are very hard to find. Arizona had even talked to 43 yr old Kurt Warner.

Trestman has to go.
