Hey Look, an (allegedly) Drunk Aldercreature

  • A dashboard camera video has surfaced showing 35th Ward Ald. Rey Colon during a July traffic stop with police before he was charged and eventually found not guilty of DUI.

The video shows Colon taking a field sobriety test after being pulled over in the early morning hours of July 25. In the video, given to DNAinfo Chicago by a source who asked not to be named, the Logan Square alderman can be seen wobbling slightly as police conduct the roadside check.

In the 40-minute video, State Police officers pull over Colon’s SUV before making him walk in a straight line and stand on one leg. The alderman, who was driving on a suspended license at the time of the traffic stop, refused a breathalyzer test, was deemed unfit to drive and was later taken to a nearby police station for processing.
Looks pretty wobbly to us.

A law should be put on a public referendum, mandating full cooperation for all elected officials when stopped for suspected impaired driving. A BAC should be mandatory in any instance where a public official is pulled over and their sobriety is brought into question pending the results of the field sobriety tests. Our elected officials should be held to a higher standard at all times while they hold public office.
How can such a referendum get on the ballot?

Imagine the politically sourced retaliation and the officers having their lives "gotten into" if this were a Chicago stop AND the video got out?

Perhaps he should be sent to Callback. A suspended license would not allow a cop to work, so let him answer phones for six months.

A suspension and a refusal. How does a judge not enforce those two?

Who was that judge?

Ahh, the Cook County judicial system at it's finest.

Wow! It could only happen in Cook County. This COlon guy apparently thinks he is above the law. He is a disgrace to everyone. The last census permitted him to "jerry mander" the ward so as to exclude a great number of residents from voting him out of office this Feb. 15. Wards should never be "re-drawn" by the politicians. In fact, a ward should be made up of whole neighborhoods, for example the entire Logan Square Neighborhood should be in one ward and not part of it. Surely rayray colon should not be able to cut up our ward as he did two yrs. ago because he feared the residents would remove him. Was that County Assessor Joseph Berrios doing, getting the "cook county judge" to declare him not guilty? looks like Joe has another bitch he owns in the city councel.

Wow- he looks like he's trying to walk on a tightrope with his arms spread out trying to keep his balance. He refused the breathalyzer so that means automatic license suspension- but he was already driving on a suspended license? If an officer came to work with a suspended license they would send you home in no-pay status and you couldn't work until you corrected your license. But this "public official" is allowed to drive around while collecting a hefty paycheck and excuses himself from holding a valid DL. And if that was an off duty officer on video, the judge would have thrown the book at him. Marty was being way too nice calling it "Crooked City".

Ay carumba! Mas cerveza, mas tequila, por favor. (hiccup)

So glad he was found not guilty in a court of law by a judge who, in order to get his judge job, stood tall before the Cook County Democratic Central Committee consisting of, in part, John Daley, Ed Burke and Mike Madigan. Nothing but the best. The judge stood before those superb scouts of judicial talent while debasing himself and doing everything but kneel down and lick their butt holes clean.

Speaking of aldermen and reporters, Neil Steinberg of the scum times has likened Fioretti to a character in American horror story because of his appearance after cancer surgery and treatment. As a cancer survivor myself and seeing my mom and dad die of cancer, I am appalled by Steinbergs disgusting, offensive and disrespectful comments about another cancer survivor like Fioretti. If anyone would have made comments about other minorities, they would have immediately been fired. I'm sure everyone reading this has felt the pain of cancer with yourself, a relative, a neighbor or a friend. I urge all of you to join me in contacting nsteinberg@suntimes.com and the publisher jkirk@suntimes.com to express your outrage. Who got to the judge??? Are you nuts? For you or me someone would have to get to the judge. For the esteemed Alderman, the judge would be pissing all over himself to get the chance to acquit this guy. That acquittal is worth a lifetime judicial appointment. As long as the hombre alderman is in office, Ed Burke will get a call from that alderman when it is time to put together the judicial ballot.

The fixing was done when the case went to the friendly judge. He knew what to do. He didn't need to be told. He went home and told the wife that the kids can go to that fancy school because daddy will be judge for life and perhaps on the appellate court too.

It is time for people who live outside of Chicago, Crook County, and the State of Illinois to complain about the blatent corruption because it is just succeeding and spreading to other cities and States. Chicago-Crook County is the Training Academy for Nationwide Political Corruption, and it will spread to your City, State, Town, Suburb, Village, if you don't speak out against Chicago Style Corruption too, even if you don't live in the jurisdiction. Don't let it happen people, speak out before it's too late for your area of the Country too.

I detest the congestion and cheap flea market ambiance of the farmer's market. I detest the dozen garbage cans left permanently in the middle of the parkway all summer long because of it. I detest the makeshift, garbagey picnic tables left rotting on the boulevard grass, thanks to the market.

That being said, closing it because of a stupid petition is petty and retaliatory. But, since he came up in the gang culture, you think petty and retaliatory are out of place for him? Vote him out in the election. We'll both be happy.

Yes he will walk. The charge for impersonating a PO requires that he identifies himself as one in some way. Having shit in his car and home means nothing. If he had an active member FOP medallion, then maybe you can get something. Had a few different cases of this kind in court. If the car had lights, all you get is IVC violations. No uniform or ID/star/badge flashing gets you a not guilty.

Karen lewis is out of control. Fioretti gave the teachers everything he had. His support of the teachers cost him his ward as emanuel wanted a yes man to his corrupt and elitist policies which the vast majority of the inept and incompetent city council. So machine hack o'connor and Blago father in law Mell redistricted him out. Then karen decided to support Chuy garcia instead of Fioretti. The overwhelming majority of the rank and file teachers of all colors support Fioretti. However, karen Lewis wanted a candidate she could control and someone who would raise taxes to pad the pockets of her organizers and union leadership. And most of all Fioretti wasn't worthy because he is white. Chuy garcia is a cop hating, divisive, enabling, pro dope come lately yes man who marches with anti cop protesters with their hands up don't shoot lies only intended to flame hatred for the police and put our law enforcement in danger. Fioretti is the only choice. If karen hates Fioretti so much as to bakstab him like she did.....he gets my vote.
