why are most merits usually the biggest assholes?

It's OK not to know everything. You can learn as you go along. The micro managing is really offensive.

I have been to Police week many times over the last 20 years. I have found it much nicer to Stay in Arlington VA or Alexandria VA. Better Choice of restaurants within walking distance and the hotels are a bit less expensive and nicer. Downtown DC is not that nice after the lights go out. Sure you don't need a car if you stay in DC but I tend to travel to other places not within driving distance. Either way, go and pay respect to our fallen officers.

It is an incredible event and honors our brother's that paid the ultimate price nationwide. When line up and fhe survivors family walk past us to and from the Capitol grounds, well all I can say is that is very emotional. Coppers from all over the world attend. Every Policeman should attend this at least once in their careers, hopefully more than that.
And yes, thank you Sgt. Al for all you do, not only regarding this event but for all the other things you do for coppers as well. You were a prince in 018 and you are a prince today.

I have known and worked with "Sgt. Al" for over forty years, even long before he became a Sergeant. I learned a lot from him and tried to pass much of that on. He is one of the best people I have ever known
and one of the reasons I do not move out of Chicago.

Take Care and Stay Safe AL.

BHO and Eric Holder I am sure will be out of town. Obama may still be in Saudi paying homage to his religious icon the King.

I can think of a lot of people who would be a pest at such an event like De Blasio, Jesse J., Al Pointedhead or Rahm.

What I'd really be careful is the Hand Up, I Can't Breath (sic) and bomb planters.

Very simple. 98 percent of the ass hats promoted are clout heavy. Think of the clout as pimps and the merit hacks promoted as whores. Now the pimp has to be flashy and beats the Prostitues. Since the Ho's have to produce the money for the pimps thus micromanaging. Very easy if you apply some ghetto logic.

Off Topic: This just happened. 7:40pm sunday night. My wife and I just got our two young children to sleep when the home phone rings. I'm thinking it's some family emergency. Nope. It's Tom Ryan the President of the Chicago Firefighters Union. In a recorded msg he told us how Rahm Emanuel is a man of his word and how the CFD union is supporting him 100%.
Holy crap what did Rahm do for this guy that he hopped in bed with him so quickly??!! Not only is he supporting Rahm, he's actually making phone calls for him and campaigning for him! Politics here truly are evil.

Police widow from 31 years ago: if you can get away, National Police Week and Police Memorial Day is something every law enforcement officer should experience. Expressing enormous gratitude to the F.O.P., the F.O.P. auxiliary and many others who founded our survivors group about 1983. I was in the "class of 1984" as we called ourselves. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to establish the beautiful national police memorial also. Its a beautiful peaceful place in Judiciary Square. As Phil Esterhaus would say "be careful out there".

Geeze when are you ever going to get it through your head that it was our money all along. Was there one nickel of interest in that money or did you pay interest on debt waiting for it.

That's one way to tell merits from earned. I made sgt. with almost 20 years on only having worked uniform in districts, never a unit. Whenever I was asked a question to which I didn't know the answer I looked in whatever publication or asset might provide the answer. I also showed those who asked the question how to find the answer. I hope I taught young coppers how to do the job better and most of all to work safer.

WE have rules against electioneering. Doesn't CFD have similar rules? That's obscene.

Why even bother to call them they cant even go on the web page and gives an explanation on why there was retro on the day they gave us as the day of receiving it. No response just crickets and silence.
