Rahm Closing on 50%

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel is closing in on the majority he needs to win re-election and avoid a runoff, but nearly 1 in 5 Chicago voters remain undecided a week before Election Day, a new Chicago Tribune poll found.

The survey found that Emanuel has boosted his favorability and job approval ratings among voters after millions of dollars in TV ads, while support for top challenger Jesus "Chuy" Garcia may be stalling as he starts to air his own ads in the closing days of the campaign.

The poll, conducted Wednesday through Sunday, found Emanuel at 45 percent support — just shy of the 50 percent-plus-one-vote benchmark he needs to avoid an April 7 runoff election against the second-place finisher. Cook County Commissioner Garcia had 20 percent support, while Ald. Bob Fioretti and businessman Willie Wilson each had 7 percent backing. Community activist William "Dock" Walls had 2 percent, while 18 percent said they were undecided.
C'mon people - anyone but Rahm is the way to go. Get out there and vote.

Went to a 26th Ward candidate forum tonight. Moderator noted that as of October, the new 012 had lost 145 officers or a 28% drop. Wanted to know if candidates would pledge to vote no on a budget that didn't include $$ to hire more police. Only the challengers said yes. When the mic went Maldonado he corrected the moderator and said 40 more officers had left in the last 4 months! Like he was one upping her and proud of it.

That means 012 is down 185 officers or 35%. They must be all riding alone. That's a huge district that spans the Ike.

The moderator also said police and fire pensions were among the worst funded in the nation. Asked if they would pledge to vote for a city-owned Casino with profits going only to city pensions. Ald Maldonado and challenger Corona said yes. The candidate who bragged she endorsed by the FOP said no...

Afterwards, the moderator's brother was talking to her and I think I heard her introduce him as CPD. No wonder she knew her $hit and wouldn't take BS answers.

The event was at EuroFurniture on Grand east of Western. Horse of Honor for Mike Ceriale is on display there. It's damn beautiful. The CPD officer who painted it did an amazing job. Stop and see it. It's inspiring.

My mother, a staunch anti-Rahm voter, called me Monday morning when the papers blared about Chuy Garcia being caught in some real estate tax issue and 'being forced to pay back thousands of dollars'. Then he got blamed for the actions of his adult son. Her comment was something like 'they're all dirty'. And, she said she wouldn't vote for him. (She's now voting for Fioretti, which is fine; it's still a vote AGAINST Rahm.)
The problem is, the articles had the intended effect of dirtying up a front-runner candidate on the very first day of early voting. Rahm's underhanded machinations worked. Neither story broke that day, but they definitely were PLANTED as if it was some brand-new bombshell revelation.

Emanuel is sleazy and devious and will trample anyone and anything that gets in the way of his ambitions. Anyone who votes for him is short-sighted and gullible.

After white males have dominated the mayor's office forever in Chicago and after already having had "firsts" with black and female mayors, Hispanics seem to think the office now 'belongs' to them.

A couple of Facebook pages representing groups of City of Chicago retirees and City of Chicago pensioners have been swamped with Chuy supporters who have totally taken over the content and the dialogue of those pages and begun berating other group members who don't agree with them even to the point of calling people morons etc. Great way to garner support for your candidate, by angering the voters.

It's becoming just another typical disgusting election in Chicago. I will say though, that if the way these Chuy people are acting now is what we can expect from Chuy and his supporters sneaking into the mayor's office on election day, I reserve my right to vote for Rahm and fuck Chuy Garcia.

I know some people are reading this and saying OMG, what an a**hole, but THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND SAYING WHEN YOU ARE ATTACKING OTHER PEOPLE!

We don't HAVE TO vote for Chuy in a runoff, ESPECIALLY if all it means is replacing one douche bag with another equally contemptible douche bag. We can just stick with the devil we know...

My Alderman called me last night asking me to support him. He's in a tight race where I live. I asked him who he supported for mayor. He said Rahm and I told him I couldn't support him.

He then started to give me reasons why he supported Rahm and I gave him my reasons why I couldn't stand Rahm and would not vote for Rahm.

He asked what union I was in and I told him. He started to say that the union negotiated away my benefits. I corrected him and he decided it was time to hang up.

They're fearful of the specter of vengeful head-taking that should justifiably follow anyone but Rahm being elected. Especially by their favorite whipping boys...
Those wild-assed, pension grabbing cops.

If you'll notice, a lot of the media inspired fiction from early in the agit-prop war against The Police in this town has gone away...

Maybe bullshit, spin, lies of omission and misrepresented facts have their saturation point even with the low information electorate?

It would suck almighty if in spite of their money and influence that local media is finally cut out of the political annointment business for maintaining the current corrupt political-corporate culture from which they've profited so handsomely.

Which is why we were praying that someone like the Koch Bros. would blow into Chicago just like Rahm did and stick it in both ears of the knee-walking, prog-tard media collective by destroying it and re-booting it just like CPD.

Why should Policemen and their families be chained behind the doors of the Theater of Fuckery as Rahm Emanuel and Gary McCarthy set the joint on fire and local media gets to point and laugh at the spectacle?

We wanna see them learning how to bleed too...

You know... Just like Rahm figures first responders should.

PLEASE PLEASE don't follow the advice of the person saying we should write in Jon Burge. Election rules are clear on this, a write in vote for someone who has not filed for candidacy is a non vote and won't be counted. So a write in vote for Jon Burge would in effect be a vote for Rahm! Don't do it! Also there is not one incumbent Alderman that deserves your vote, our Aldeman in the 41st Ward especially. If you read her fliers she claims credit for all the school renovations in the ward. B.S. the projects were in the pipeline before she arrived on the scene! A vote for her is a vote for Rahm!
