Detective Openings

It must be getting close to graduation time. The Department posted bid openings for Detectives to move around:
  • 40 spots in Area Central
  • 35 spots in Area South
  • 20 spots in Area North
  • 4 spots at the JISC
Have the Detectives-in-training had to act as fillers yet for the recruit graduation?

Area North lost 17 detectives just last year to retirement and four more left this year.

They will have a net gain of -1.

4 spots at the JISC....ugh just burn that place down already. Wouldn't it be cheaper for the districts that cover the JISC to just put a youth dic in every station on each watch rotating with days off. Think about it no building/maintaince no extra white shirts to pay etc. There are already rbt dics in the stations now why not youth.

No financial crimes?

I guess you have to be cute and Lucki to get into this high speed unit.

Cum-stat needs this unit!

Rumor is there are going to be some openings at the academy too. Those officers caught having sex in a classroom are getting launched along with a complete house cleaning of other officers. Just makes sense since the city has no money in the 2015 budget for new police hires. Some people at the academy are in for a rude awakening.

The JISC is not going anywhere!

Now they have assigned wagons from the district that only do transports! That's all they do!

The best part is when the kids are released and mom has no way to pick him/her up the wagon will give them a ride home!

With what manpower? Officers should be trained to process their own arrests. Serious crimes handled by Svu then. I bet the bullshit arrests would stop. Rumor has it new recruits will be given the State qualifications to process youths in the future. The city is working on it now.

It used to be that way many years ago. Each Dist had its own assigned Youth Investigator on days and afternoons.. On midnights you would call central youth and have a YI come out to you. Since they merged youth with detectives this has fallen by the wayside. The JISC houses missing persons and hotlines along with social agencies so its open anyway. It is easier and cheaper for the dept to have one YI working there and have multiple districts take the youth to them. There is talk about opening another JISC on the far South side. Remember, its not how easy it is for you or the YI to process the youth. Its about money and perception.

This current system was supposed to be an improvement. Har-de-har-har. Stupid bosses strike again.

Any word on making a sergeants class?

3/25/2015 12:29:00 AM

&&&&&&&&

They will ask for merit packets first. Then it's easily a minimum of 3-5 months after the the due date for merit packets so no, I would say no time soon. If any action is taken it will be after the election. But still then with how slow the process is and if the asked for merit picks today that would mean a class in September at the earliest maybe. With that said sgts are only 55 short per the sgts association website. The city won't make a class usually till they hit at least 120 short and will make a bigger class of 60-75 first the follow up with a few smaller classes of 30 or so. It's irritating having to wait but I did it. Patience... But judging by the numbers I really don't see a class anytime soon.. I would even be hard presses to say a class will be made in 2015... As was the rumor a few months back but looking like it's possible.

Is it any wonder why crime solving is down. There are not enough officers on the street to perform their functions. Too many contact card writers on the watch and on tact. How embarrassing that the only arrest was the shop litters at walgreens. Really...no part 1 arrests. No real felonies just a theft upgrade because the price of hand cream and a special conditioned went up? Its not like it was a wen product. Oh yeah tac guys with the Backwards baseball cap.....don't ask for a discount on hair gel because the store manager has to answer to corporate and they told him only if the container is dented just like cat food.

Detectives should be assigned to Districts in a uniform , blue , khaki pants , white shirt tie and a navy blue sport coat with a cpd logo over pocket . This would end several command spots , sgts . lts and now xo and put these bosses back in district patrol;. bet overtime would be reduced by 40% .

Uh, no. Youth people were assigned to the area, and sent out to the districts when needed. If you saw a youth person in the district all the time, it's only because the kids in your district were always in trouble.

Still too earlier in the year to say no classes this year but I think your right their not even close to making a class. Merit packets last a month then you have to wait 4 or so months after that for the class. So if they wait till a few weeks after the election... Let's say they open applications for merit on May first and close it first week of June that puts a class in around late September or early October. I'm not sure about your numbers about sgts short because I just looked on the sgts website and it says the are only 36 sgts short not 50. I really don't see a class this quick. I'm guessing they are trying to figure out the Lt. Drama first which is held up with a lawsuit in court right now. It is early but I'm tending to agree with no class this year unless they figure out when a new lt test will be given and make a decent sized lt class but that doesn't look like its anywhere near.. Or if 90-100 sgts retire in the next few months but usually April will see 20-40 sgts retire but that's still not enough for the city to warrant making a class. Like the above poster said they will wait till they are well over 100-150 short to even think about making a class.

Latest cutback? State wants to eliminate funds for indigent burials.

Locked up a juvy asswipe in 011.
Tranported him to the JISC. When they called Momma, she told them she had no way to get there.
So, the Kiddy Dets asked if we'd give the lil fucker a ride back home?
The irony of the lil jaggoff being back home before us, wasn't lost on my partner and I.
This is why it almost takes an act of Congress for us to make juvy arrests anymore. Just not worth it, 9 of 10 times.

They asked if you would give him a ride and you did it. Next time tell them it's not your job. Buses, trains, and cabs still exist. It's not our job to transport offenders back home. It's not our job to sit at the JISC to babysit these little assholes until mommy shows up. That little fancy room upstairs with all that cool security, like a locking door, is used to hold the juvies until their parent shows up. It's not just for fingerprinting and pictures before they're given back to the arresting/transporting officers to drive home. Why do we need to go out of our way to avoid inconveniencing some worthless "parent" who can't keep their child out of police custody?
