Walgreens Heroes Awards

  • Two Chicago police officers and two good Samaritans were honored for their actions during a recent shooting.

On Valentine's Day, police said a shoplifting suspect grabbed an officer's gun outside a Walgreens store in the Andersonville neighborhood and fired one shot.

A manager of the store, Ray Robinson, forced the shooter's fingers off the weapon as officers wrestled with him. A customer, Christopher Smith, then helped officers hold the suspect down. Both men received certificates of appreciation.
Actually, we're teasing about the "took long enough." That award turnaround time is incredible. So incredible, that it shines a bit of light on the three years worth of Commendations, Life Saving and who knows how many other awards that landed in officers' mailboxes this week as the Department clears out the usual backlog of things the Department hasn't gotten to.

Congrats to the assisting citizens and thank you for stepping up.

Lol!

You're right SCC...

3+ years to get proper recognition for taking commendable Police action?

A counseling form, SPAR and C/R# is presented to a copper and the ink is still wet on the damned thing...

Priorities an' shit.
Right?

Congratulations to everyone that did good.

Are they clearing out the backlog because the Superintendent is on his way out, and he wants to clean up before he leaves?

I have three department comendations that have been sitting in Gullifords que for two years or longer. Approve them or don't what ever but do something. He is worthless, he denies all outside training requests and takes a forever to approve or deny an award. Retire already you're not doing your job anyway.

I believe FOP could have beat everyone and gave those heroes an even more timely award.
I'm not a FOP basher by any means, but this oversight makes it hard to stick up for them.
It was all over the news AND "SCC!"
A little would mean a lot.
Sorry FOP, IF you didn't beat them to the punch to give this righteous award... somebody dropped the ball.
